RaceGirl, I am one Catholic who broke out of that mode many years ago. I was taught by a Catholic who wrote a book about prayer. What to pray more? Just talk to God, when you do treat Him with the greatest respect and wonder (praise and adore Him) - admit all of your failures (confession) - thank Him for all of your blessings and what He has done for you - ask Him for help, for wisdom, for strength, for answers, for courage, to open up your eyes to those in need around you and to teach you how to listen.
There are many of us who pray spontaneously. Don't listen to those negative thoughts you are getting when you pray; they are nonsense, of the flesh or of the evil one. Happy to hear from you.

For it simply comes down to this: I am just lazy. I used to pray all the time, then strayed away from my faith for awhile and got out of the habit. Now I just don't do it. Honestly, I just don't think about it. I'm always thinking that I SHOULD, but then I get sidetracked doing something else and never get around to it. Like I said, lazy. :(

then you are making it too hard...............once you think you should pray, stop and say Hi Lord, You are the Most High. Thank You for turning this moment from "I should moment to I did."

I have been wrestling with this topic....how do I pray?? Do I just talk ? How do I help with prayer on DAB.?? Is there a right or a wrong way?? I want to open myself and I am not sure how.

I think when I first was a Christian it was strange to pray out loud to someone I actually do not see, so I just talked to God in my heart, mind and then out loud. Now it is my second nature. It feels not strange anymore. I try to pray scripture because in Hebrews 4:12 it says " 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." So just think about it how powerful the Bible is. To pray for people on the forum has helped me to learn more about His Word. Words come to my mind and I just google them and there is a scripture which I can pray out loud and also get it into my mind.

Helga, thank you...you seem so wise about all this...I am trying to figure out this praying for others on the DAB site. I am learning that when I help or talk to others or pray for others...it lifts my spirits and when I say a prayer for myself they seem more focused...people in the cars next to me may think I am a little nutty...but I seem to talk and pray while driving or sitting waiting to pick up the kids...Sound odd????

Don't worry what others think of you, remember it is God who wants us to pray, seek and find Him.

Prayer to me means expressing my heart in thought and word and physical expression. sometimes it's a walk in nature...then again silent inner dialogue...another time for vocal expression from my heart. The connection IS to make a connection. What is the sincerest part of my soul needing expression...that s what surfaces. The search conti uses for that connection.
