Pride

Pride is something that I have always tried to be aware of, but it comes in so many forms. What is your definition of pride and how do we really know when we are in pride?

Great question, Bernadette, and I bet everyone has a different definition.
I'm thinking it is any time we take credit for anything that is God's doing. In part I think this is a good definition: "pleasure or satisfaction taken in something done by or belonging to oneself or believed to reflect credit upon oneself." Is it ever ours to take credit for?

Someone once pointed this form of pride out to me, and that is feeling sorry for myself. He explained that when you are constantly dwelling on how bad things are for yourself, that you are really thinking that you are some how great and do not deserve your suffering. So, having the "I deserve better" mentality is a very subtile, and therefore a very dangerous form of pride. One that I am starting to become more and more aware of in my life.

Hi Bernadette, I believe Pride is when you believe that you are in control and don't need God, thinking you can handle everything. and I think to an extent we all sometimes do it. we are taught to do your part first and God will do the rest, (I don't believe that is correct) Spiritual Pride: I believe is when we think we are the only person being used by God and frankly everyone else is just use because He chose 'me' to do it afterall. Satans biggest problem. I looked up the word Pride on e-sword it is amazing how many times the bible uses that word. Proverbs talks alot of what God will do to those with pride. Pro 14:3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. prov 13:10, Prov 14:3 etc. Look in your concordance of your bible it should give you more places.
