Daily Audio Proverb

Fear of The LORD
Proverbs 1:7. "The fear of The Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I thought this to be a great proverb (however common it may be heard) to start this thread. For the vets here on DAB, I can almost bet you've contributed to past discussions of "the fear of the LORD" on the old site.

If anyone has maybe changed their thought on this passage or what "fear of the Lord" in itself means, it would be great to share to both old and new dabbers. We could all learn a lot from each other.

For me, it's pretty simple, I know the Lord has punished me in the past for my sins so I tread litely into the future doing what I've learned from His Word to hold my tongue and control my flesh.

Fear of the LORD to me has to do with respect. As I've studied this out I've come up with a working definition:
To fear the LORD is to "take him into account in all your decision making and action taking."

Give Him the respect and honor He deserves by inviting Him into every aspect and area of your life. Before we make a decision or take any action we should stop and ask "What is God's will in this situation?" And then when we have clarity, then obey.

Great topic Tony. Thanks for bringing it up. I missed the other discussion so I'm interested in what everybody has to say on this.

the fear of the Lord saved my life. I have been a Christian for 13 years. I remeber Jesus said "do not fear him who can kill the body, but fear him who can destroy both body and soul in hell" My biggest fear is going to hell. Also Romans 14 says "we shall all stand before the judgement seat of Christ" and "every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Thats scary, thank God for the cross, salvation, the blood of Jesus, forgiveness, the gift of eternal life. But how the fear of the Lord saved may life is I went through a ten year depression as a Christian and suicide was tempting, but I was afraid if I did I might end up in hell.

Hi , I have been disciplined so I can learn from my mistake. He said he disciplines those he loves. I some times want to join in the crowd and say things just to be with them . and have suffer for it. So it is best to have fear of God and not my clients. This my first reply . Ilovetom (songs88)
