Need Encouragement?

Prayer for Marriage
I am new to the DAB website but have been listening to Bryan for a while. I need prayer for my marriage. My heart is breaking over all the struggles we are having in our marriage. In April my husband and I separated for a month. When he came back things seem to be going a little better but recently things having gotten so hard again. There is too much to share but the big thing is now that my husband is an alcoholic. He is drinking again and I just do not know how to handle this again, not sure that I am strong enough to go through this again. We have been going through counseling but I have not shared this with our Pastor yet.( he knows it has been a problem in the past) When I have confronted him about it he says it is the only way he knows how to relax and that it is not his problem it is mine. My heart is breaking and I feel so alone.

Sarah I'm praying for you and your husband. Lord bless Sarah and her husband, restore this marriage and fill them both with the knowledge of your Word and Your Spirit. Lord God I pray that Sarah's husband would seek You and not alcohol. Lord provide an escape when the temptation to drink presents it's self. Protect this family and I pray that there restoration will be a witness to all those around them. In Jesus name Amen.

Sarah, don't believe the lie that your husbands drinking is your problem. You may know this already in your mind, but don't let it sink into your heart. As a recovered, Christ restored, former alcoholic I can say this with authority.

Allow Christ to grow your own faith. Jesus is the restorer. He may start with you before your husband so that you will have strength to respond in God's will. It will be all to the glory of God.

Praying in empathy for your situation,

Craig

Sarah,
I struggled for 10 years with my wife's addiction to narcotic pain medication. With God's help, she has been clean for 3 years. I can definitely empathize with you.

Here are a couple of things I have learned. I hope they help you.

We did not feel comfortable with counseling with our pastors at our church so we search out a Christian Addiction Counselor who was affiliated with a neighboring church. This was a good choice for us because the relationship was purely counseling and we did not have to worry about something slipping out. Our counselor does phone counseling if you want his number, email by clicking on my name.

His drinking is not your problem. He is exhibiting classic denial symptoms common in addiction. Unfortunately, you cannot force him to receive treatment but that should not stop you from receiving counseling. If this has been going on for a number of years, you are likely experiencing some codependency. Counseling can be helpful.

Go to the website www.celebraterecovery.com. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ based 12 step program. See if their is a program in your area. Most programs have a codependency group.

Continue to pray for your husband. My wife's recovery really got going when I began pray earnestly for her healing. I continue to pray that she remains clean every day.

You are not alone. There are many people here at DAB that have struggled with similar problems. People here will pray for you and your family. Keep coming back. We will pray for you. If you would like to talk to a woman about this email and I will give you my wife's contact info. She would be happy to talk and pray with you.
