Week 4 Comments
My wife Cathy and I have been going through the Restored class and we absolutely love the depth of it. This is so much that this week we started the class with our Friday night bible group that meets at home each week. Chapter 4 was so impactful to me, that I was led by the Spirit to begin the class with our group on week 4, Overcoming Bitterness, instead of week 1. I was not sure why the Spirit kept insisting that I begin with week 4, but the reason became crystal clear not even 12 minutes into the Podcast with our group. People began to open up and share their un-forgiveness and bitterness struggles and the sharing was heart moving; one woman began to cry. At the end of the sharing, I asked if the group wanted to continue the Podcast series, and there was an overwhelming yes! This is really, really deep stuff! We are so very grateful to Neil and Brian for bringing us the podcast. I can finally stop keeping score, because this is exactly how He(God)intended it. Ephesians 4:30-33 - Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Galatians 6:1-2 NASB - Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

Greg, that comment on page 81 that you mention consumed a great deal of time in our discussion; we found it to be profound! What a blessing it is to relate to Christ and share in his suffering this way, as a Christian!

I'm still working through week 4 and finding the exercise on the top of Page 90, (making two lists,) extremely effective. One of the problems in being set free from un-forgiveness/bitterness is breaking the thought and behavior patterns that accompany it. I am finding this list an effective tool for daily reflection.

Me too Greg and Jack. I am in the process of moving myself and my kids from CT to OH. I am finding myself benefiting from week 4. Mostly because I trying to fight off the bondage of bitterness. I have been through Restored now 3 times. Bitterness seems to be one really hard thing for me. I like what Dr. Neil said in the beginning of this podcast. It's about forgiveness not liking someone. My 18 year is allowing the bondage of bitterness have power of his life. I have done the same thing. I would love for him to grab hold of God and realize that his bondage of bitterness towards his dad is actually keeping him in bondage. Keeping him from living his life that way he was meant to live, in freedom. As I empty the home we were supposed to raise our children in through high school, selling furniture and throwing out our stuff from our 19 year marriage, it's hard, because I become entrapped in the bitterness again. I can feel the enemy looking for a stronghold in order to steal this New Beginning from me. But listening to this week, has helped me realize the freedom again. I think it's all a process. Not that I am going backwards, but that God is giving me another opportunity to choose forgiveness, not bitterness, and He gives me the grace to do all this.
