Praise

A Praise story
in 1910 a young woman named Vera was born in Iowa to an Irish farm family. She attended church with the family, in the summer by wagon, in the winter by sleigh. She grew up to be tough as the times required. She later met and married an young working man from the wrong side of the tracks. Loyd had only finished 6th grade, and worked as a mechanic. He was a strong and tough man, he could lift two 10 pound sledgehammers from the end of the handle, one in each arm. He worked hard to provide for her, as a mechanic and later ran a gas station. As the children came, Vera would take them off to Sunday School and church every week. She would always ask Loyd do you want to come. Loyd always said no, and often made fun of her. Time passed, Loyd prospered through his hard work. The local minister would come to have coffee with him frequently. One Sunday, when Vera asked Loyd if he would go to church, he said yes. Later that year he gave his life to Christ and became first a greeter at the church and later an elder and trustee. He loved that church, he and Vera were stalwarts, through thick and thin. Loyd's change of perspective and conversion led to their second son Dick becoming a minister. Dick has led thousands to know Jesus, and lived as a true pastor, leading and loving his flock.

Vera died last week at 101. She and Loyd left a legacy of love and caring (and success). Loyd (my grandfather) had passed away 30 years ago due to lung disease, and she missed him terribly especially in the last years. The only sad thing was that Dick (my Dad ) has ALS and could not make the journey to see her off, but as he said it best, don't cry for her, she is happy, she is with Loyd and has seen Jesus.

I am so thankful for the years that I got to know them, the closeness we had, the patience they had with me when I was a very rebellious teenager, and the mature love they showed that modeled how a man and wife should finish well.
