And what do we do with all the non English Bibles -- do we burn them too since they're not King James English? Pooey on that. (That's the most scientific term I could come up with *smile*)

Enjoying a good read,
John

Go to this link, in the blue letter Bible as Ted suggests, hit the "C" beside each of those verses, go into the interlinear where you can see the Greek and Hebrew and I am sure you will see that the Greek and Hebrew definitions do not align exactly with how KJV translated it. http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&c=28&v=9&t=RSV#conc/10

Oh, and Jonathan, the NIV is not dropping the concept of LORD, they just picked a different word then the KJV used as being more accurate to the original intent, which the NIV explains in detail in their forward. I don't have an NIV handy or I would quote it for you. (I worked in a Bible Bookstore for several years). All this stuff sounds inflammatory unless you actually go to where they explain how and why they made their words choices and then it makes sense. Has God spoken to you ever? using the NIV? or is everything you have learned thus far in error? I think you will see if you think about it, that you are pretty sure he has spoken, anyway. Cuz he's God and He does stuff like that.

I enjoy that my topics are so controversial :)

TRWord is a troll.

I wouldn't call TR a troll. He's no trying to upset anyone. His style might be hard to take in. But hey, my style is hard to take in! I think everyone has a pretty good feel on where each other stands on theology.

Hey, have you checked out Stryper's "The Covering"? It's a little controversial and some people may have a problem with the content and songwriters. I think it paints a pretty good picture though on several of the tracks of showing an unsaved person who is fed up with the lifestyle of darkness and ripe for Jesus to invade their heart. I'm certain that metal-heads who have never been in a church in their life will be impacted by it; especially the last track.

TRWord, you hit the nail on the head. I see from the KJV the authority of Christ, from the others I see whining children almost raising their noses to Christ as if "Who is He to teach us?"

This is consistent with the other discrepancies that I brought forth.

Ultimately nobody here can say how old anything is, nobody can truly know what version is best to use. I do know that a few of the items that I've seen in those comparison pages have been fixed in the NIV, the current version that I'm reading. But still, I'm sorry, I'm drawn to Christs Authority and His Deity.

That power feeds me.

TRWord, you said "The changes I see are far worst than errors". Kelley made an excellent point regarding the KJV being used as the standard. I won't rehash it, but if we use anything other than the original language as the standard, we are only judging one translator's work by another, not by the Word of God. I see that as an error. As jonathonbyrd pointed out, we don't know which English translation is best. What is important is whether or not God speaks to you through the scriptures. And I agree with Kelley that God can speak through whichever translation you choose to read....

Jon, the debate over KJV-ism comes around once a year or so. This isn't the first time it's come up and it won't be the last time, it'll come along so long as "book-worshippers" remain. Do don't feel like, at least in this instance, the controversy is unique to you. My brother-in-laws father who was either Mormon or Seventh Day Adventist (both groups use the KJV), I can't remember which he was, but someone was trying to get him to switch to a newer translation and his response was "If King James English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me." So... rather then arguing, with certain groups you just have to kind of tip your hat and leave them to it.

you've essentially just put yourself "above" the situation, called me a book-worshiper then compared me to a mormon? All of this because I see more authority, repentance and lordship expressed in the KJV.

whatever...
