LONG WALK 2011 Stories

A story in Tallmadge, Ohio

As the day started, I thought about last year's Long walk, and how special it turned out, with all the beauty of creation around me, even catching a video of unexpected Deer. Hoping, that this year's walk would be a another treasure memory, I was not in the least bit, disappointed. I didn't go to the same place, nor did I walk much. I decided to take a chair and my Bible, into the wooded half of my back yard. I opened up to the book of Nehemiah, where he was talking about rebuilding the Jerusalem walls, and how some men worked, opposite their homes. Right then, I stopped, and gave thanks to the Lord, for all of the beauty surrounding me, and for works he's done for me and through me. Rebuilding my life. I've heard before, that God knows the unique things, our hearts are fond of, showing us beauty, and inviting us to enjoy it. In my life, I've learned that God knows I am fond of the beauty of his creation, in animals, trees, and flowers. Whenever he shows me something, it's like he's telling me, ' Look there, see what I've made for you'. That's always been a way I've known God, even sub-consciously, as a child. As I sat and enjoyed the experience, I heard twigs snapping in the distance. As I looked, a White-tailed Doe appeared out from a path, and two little Fawns followed closely behind. They didn't notice me, and so they circled around to where I sat. Just then, one of the little Fawns got ahead of the others, and stumbled upon the path 20 ft ahead of me. It seen me, but paced forth left to right, as it was unsure how to equate my presence with his comfort. As I stood up, the three of them, quickly darted off, leaping over fallen trees, as gracefully as they were created to do. After they were no longer visible from behind the dense thicket, I sat back down, in awe, that God would suprise me with another encounter of the things my heart loves to see. Unconvinced, by luck or chance, I thought to myself, "What manner of man is this, that even the animals are subject to him?
