HI Ray. I have listened to weeks 1 and 2, and partially week 3. The timeliness of the series has really struck me in my walk with Jesus. Even though week 2 was a man's perspective, I could completely recognize myself in so much of what they were talking about, in making agreements, in being something doing something that you were not that was keeping you from God. If you are a Chronicles of Narnia Fan, it is like one of the last scenes in the last book where everyone can see all the beauty of paradise and joy around them except for the dwarves who just cannot see because of their "agreements."

I don't want to be long winded, but I am glad to have you chime in. What are you thinking about in this series?

First of all, thanks to Brian for making the resource available. It struck me how powerful the testimonies are, how alive they make the series. While the books are good, the supporting cast just blow me away at how open and powerful they are in telling their stories. It makes the concepts come alive. I can't travel to Colorado to join in the live conferences, so this is as good as it gets for me.

Christine, I'll have to admit, I'm a little slow on the uptake. I usually have to listen more than once and take notes. I've not done that in this series, but I intend to get that done going forward. I think Jesus can make use of that in time. It was only recently that I was able to share to a group some of the prayer concepts from John's teachings on prayer which you can find under the resources tab of the DAB site is called the "Hope of Prayer." Anyway, I think that if you look at the concepts and supporting scripture as tools to carry with you as you go that you will be able to change your part of the world a bit as Jesus provides opportunity. If you do listen to the prayer talks you will hear some of the same ideas as he approaches what you do with the fight teachings, which is pray, or rather take prayer seriously as a way of life.

So, I have a hard time pointing to things right now in a specific way. What comes to mind quickly:

John 10:10 - we live in a world at war (sessions 1&2)
the minor theme - we are not the center of the universe (session 3)
the major theme - we can stand with Jesus (session 4)

One of the things that was very striking to me was Craig's response to Agnes Sanford's claim of having a powerful prayer life, it frightened him. I think this is really significant. What do we do with this? Seriously. Do we take this power as something we are responsible for? Do we resist going there? Why? I suspect each of us could spend a very long time here. If we take these ideas seriously, our response to this power requires a response, a change of life.

Funny, the title of the series. If you take the ideas seriously, you have to fight to stand up in it, even as Craig has to. whoa....

Quick question. In week one, I am pretty sure Brian said this was a 6 week class. I keep looking for week 6. Is it actaully only 5 weeks long? I can't imagine what else there could be, but I just didn't want to miss something.
Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I'm wondering the same thing... I think there is supposed to be a week 6... Also, at the end of last years series called "Restored" there was a live podcast/forum with phone calls and discussion from DAB'ers and the author Neil Anderson... Wouldn't it be wonderful if John Eldgridge did one with Brian this year!!!! I KNOW there will be some kind of wrap-up... I have to believe the Mission trip to Africa followed immediately by the "Wild at Heart" boot camp has just delayed "The Fight for Life" temporarily. :) It's all good though... this ministry is basically all volunteers doing an awesome job! Thank you Jesus for this ministry!

I've followed this series from the start and have listened to each week's discussion many times. I lost count on how many times for week #1. The others were just as powerful. I sent the link to several friends and now it has become topics for discussion in our Sunday Class. I'm also wondering about week 6 and if there will be one.

One thing that can happen to waking up to the world at war is to strive against the enemy. JE warns against this. It is actually the opposite that we need to head towards. Today's Utmost entry hints at it, feeding the life in us:

It is not part of the life of a natural man to pray. We hear it said that a man will suffer in his life if he does not pray; I question it. What will suffer is the life of the Son of God in him, which is nourished not by food, but by prayer. When a man is born from above, the life of the Son of God is born in him, and he can either starve that life or nourish it. Prayer is the way the life of God is nourished.

I just found the Fight For Life series last night and started listening to it. I listened to 1 and 2. I'm in a bad place today and not sure how to proceed from here...whether I should keep listening or not. I fell into some old habits/sins and now I'm snowed under. I need the Lord's grace today which I know He will give...the problem is just receiving it. Pls pray for protection for me today and a clear mind. Thank you.

I would definitely keep listening. Praying with you Jacob.

Glad I saw these posts because I've been meaning to get back to listening to the rest of the series -- had only had time to listen to week 1. Not sure when I'll fit it in, but I'm more determined to now, thanks!

I would love to hear week 6. Where do we ask to find out?
