Need Encouragement?

Doubt
I am struggling. I don't know what it is like in the US but in the UK there is a lot in the media that seems bent on disproving the existence of God. I have know God my whole life and I hate the doubts that these bring. Why do Atheists have such a problem with Christianity? I don't see programs where they are trying to pull down Islam or Judaism or any other major religion. What must God think of me that my faith is so easily shaken.

Katherine, it is the same here in the US and all over the World. The persecution of Jesus and The Church has been happening from the very beginning. The major players in most main stream media are secular humanist. I would be very surprised if they were not doing all they can to crush Christianity. It is a lot easier to attack Christianity than for other religions because Christians practice forgiveness and love to their enemies. Atheist don't fear reprisals from Christians as they do from other religions for that very reason. In spite of all the persecution from the beginning of Christianity The Church has survived and thrived.

No matter what happens or how diligent the opposition to The Body of Christ Jesus is, God's children will always come back to Him when called. Jesus will not loose even one of His own. This will include even some of those very vocal Atheist who are now so against Jesus. Not even Atheist will remain so when God calls to them for they are human just as we all are. Were we not all just like the Atheist before we answered the call of God? With this promise we can have complete faith in our all knowing and seeing God who tells us not to worry about tomorrow. God is in control.

So it matters not about all the proofs anyone can bring against the existence of God. It matters not how shaken your faith can be. Even the disciples were shaken at times and look how they turned out in the end. They eventually served The Lord even through torture unto death. So if your faith was shaken by cleaver talk just know that Jesus is more than able to help you with it just for the asking. And He is the faithful and good Shepherd who will not loose even one of His sheep.

You ask what must God think of you that your faith is so easily shaken. No lees of you than any human. We have all had to face a crises of faith. God thinks no less of you than even the disciples.

Heb 2:11 So now Jesus and the ones He makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them His brothers and sisters.
Heb 2:12 For He said to God, "I will proclaim Your name to My brothers and sisters. I will praise You among Your assembled people."
Heb 2:13 He also said, "I will put My trust in Him," that is, "I and the children God has given Me."
Heb 2:14 Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.
Heb 2:15 Only in this way could He set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

Katherine - I'm adding that God says "I love you" and "keep walking with me".

There are many great resources to hear the actual debate and not just one side (for or against God.) I'm sure your confidence will be strengthened by these resources. All these are available on Itunes too...

David...your posts are always such a blessing to all who read them. I am always encouraged by your comments.
Katherine- I think we've all been there. I almost walked away from God totally last year. He wouldn't let me go. He has never stopped pursuing my heart. I have learned from experience that you can't outrun the Holy Spirit. God will give you strength through your doubts.

2 Peter 3:3
Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

Josh Garrels wrote these lines that I cant' forget:

Take courage sons, for we must go under
The heart of darkness, and set them free
But don’t lose heart when you see the numbers
There’s no measure for, the faith we bring
It’s given us, to overcome
If we run, where the spirit calls us on
The greatest things, have yet to come
With the dawn, we will rise

"Why do Atheists have such a problem with Christianity?"

Because the war is much larger than those things, those people, those beliefs. These are just echos of a much larger conflict:

Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

So, what is our response? A battle plan is laid out in Matt 22:

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Hello Folks,

I’ve heard it said by many that Man is born with a “God-sized vacuum” in their heart that only God can fill to full contentment. Man is aware of the existence of God even though he tries to fight Him. God Himself makes mankind aware of His existence in our hearts.

(Romans 1:18-19 NASB) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

The great theologian John Calvin said, “Men cannot open their eyes without being compelled to see God.” So, we have the book of nature.

(Romans 1:20 NASB) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

So Katherine, whenever a stray doubt should wander across your path, just step outside and look up to the stars and pray for guidance to the Risen Jesus who Loves you immensely.

(Psalms 19:1 NASB) For the choir director. A Psalm of David. The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

Peace in Christ, Ted

Thank you all for replying they all strengthened me. God really turned up in my doubt and about a week after this we had a Christian stand up comedian in our sunday service. He briefly spoke about his Atheist friends and how he deals with it. He simply said that you just have to look at Love, Hope and Beauty, as there is no evolutionary point for these. We love because God is love, we see beauty in a sunset because God is the artist and we have Hope because there is more to life that this. This just blew me away. I am a scientist and work in science and this often challenges my faith. Thank you all for the words you brought to me. I will continue to walk by faith and not by sight.
Katherine.

Atheism simply means lack of belief in https://sumpleteunlimited.com/ a god or gods, and it doesn't necessarily entail any particular attitude toward religion. However, some atheists may be critical of religion, including Christianity, for various reasons.
