Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

My husband and I have decided to do the Daniel Fast this year
I don't know how much anyone knows about it, but we have decided to do it for 21 days: Jan 8-Jan 28. I know we are not supposed to show others when we are fasting, but I felt like I should share with my family at DAB. I also put it on Facebook, because I want to do this in community, and with accoutability to others. If you have done this before, or are interested in joining us, email me. I am thinking about putting together a Facebook page or something, so we can share ideas and insights that come from this. Anyway, working on cutting down sugar and caffeine this week. Goodbye coffee!

2 questions:

Whats a daniel fast?

Is there any way to use this to raise money for a good cause?

It's a common thing to start the New Year with, often a church community will put it out there too, as a fresh-start thing.

I have Susan Gregory's book http://danielfast.wordpress.com/

It's not a money raising thing at all. It has a more specific purpose.

Wes, your BB's YouVersion app also has a 21 Day Daniel Fast reading plan built into it.

Since this is open for discussion... what's the point of the fast, Tammy? It sounds more like "Lent" than a "fast".

With love and respect,

Craig

It's a partial fast. I can see how it is similar to Lent. If you read the story in Daniel 10, it talks about Daniel mourning over some visions that God had sent to him, and he asked God for clarification. It lists the restrictions in the fast, and it says that after the 21 days, an angel appeared to Daniel. He said that he was dispatched from heaven the first day, but he warred with the "Prince of Persia" for 21 days, and had to call on the angel Michael to help him get through to Daniel. So, this is a fast that focuses on clarity and breakthrough in our spiritual lives. My husband and I are focusing this time on clearly seeing God's will in our lives. It's spiritual warfare.

Ok. It's day 4. I'm not struggling a lot with the fast so far. I just feel such a peace in the midst of this. I am seeing health benefits, which include something I didn't expect. My hands shake a lot because of my fibromyalgia. They have since I was a child. My hands are not shaking. I have had them stop before when I was taking medication for the fibro, but never like this. I am amazed...
Also, yesterday I went for a walk, and felt the love of God just encircle me. It was a short 15 min. walk, but it was almost like God was walking right beside me. I don't know how to describe this.
