What Happens When We Die?

Simple question, right? I've been thinking about this question because of the thread called "Saints". I've been searching for clear answers from the Bible. What I have found is that I want the Bible to say something that may not be there. Ultimately I believe that eventually we will be with Christ. But my confusion and lack of answers is on the order of events.
I want the Bible to say that that our saved soul goes immediately to Heaven in the presence of God, Jesus, Saints, Angels, etc., etc. Then our Heavenly souls rejoin our resurrected (immortal) bodies. Then we reign over the "New Earth" with Christ. But I am having doubts. I'm now leaning towards the idea that our bodies die and our soul "sleeps" until the day that when our bodies are "transformed".
If it is "soul sleep" then time has no context in our unconsciousness. So the net effect is the same as if we had immediately been taken to Heaven anyway. But an unconscious soul is fairly complex idea too with it's own pitfalls and questions.
So, what Biblical answers to this simple question can you offer?

I have the same questions myself, Craig, but ultimately I don't think on it much. I know how it all ends and I struggle much more with figuring out the here and now. LOL I am interested to see what the responses will be.
