Ray, great story and I must agree with you to be able to listen to "this little" voice is not easy. How may times have I not sat and said to God "Please just show me the way" but He seems to reveal Himself in may different ways. He is a creative God and when John and other authors write they touch different areas of our hearts. John Maxwell said once, that he reads a lot of books and finds some books really inspiring and in some books he just finds "something little".
At the end we are human, we think "this was God speaking" and it was not and we make a wrong choice, but it teaches us to get up and move forward.

Yep, Helga, many different ways:

"When our children, John and Becky, were small, they were often completely in my will as they played happily in the back garden, though I had no preference that they should do the particular things they were doing there or even that they should be in the back garden instead of playing in their rooms or having a snack in the kitchen. Generally we are in God’s will whenever we are leading the kind of life he wants for us. And that leaves a lot of room for initiative on our part, which is essential: our individual initiatives are central to his will for us."
Willard, Dallas (2012-04-24). Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God (p. 13). Intervarsity Press. Kindle Edition.

I like that. It's similar to the bible not being a rule book. He doesn't want us to be his robots, he wants us to be creators like him. So, nice!

Demanding that he say to me which was to turn is like the servant in Matt 25:24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’" Getting creative, while in his will, is like the other guy, 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

But, I still want to hear his voice.

Amen!

So Lord help us today to hear Your voice. Train our hearts and minds to be able to hear when You speak.

Thanks for the prayer, H. It was answered for me. My long lost prayer partner called me today out of his busyness. I smiled again.

At itunes the ransomed heart guys talk some difficulties in hearing God, an excerpt from a wild at heart advanced session:

Q&A God Speaking 1/16/12 John, Craig, Morgan and Bart talk about God Speaking

It's interesting how different it is expressed in this than the way John refers to it in the Streams sessions. It's much more involved. I guess it was not the main topic of streams, it is just what I liked hearing about.

On the other hand, I'm excited, but squirm in my seat, since John does such a good job wrt the wounds and council ideas. Pr 20:5 The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out. "We don't know what is down there." God has to bring truth to our inmost being and it is only then that we are set free. The intellectual nod of hearing some words does not set you free. Pretty spooky really, so true. I definitely have some muck down there I know nothing about.

Is 45:2 I will go before you
and will level the mountains[a];
I will break down gates of bronze
and cut through bars of iron.
3 I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the Lord,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name.

Your heart is the treasure of the kingdom? Imagine that. So, the living question for us is what is God up to in raising issues to the surface so they can be cleaned up. Those 1 Sam 17 moments that are buried deep: 28 When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”

What's been the message to you? Do you know? The abortion story that get shoved down deep is a very powerful reminder of how critical this topic is. I'm going there because of the series. That which is laid down in pain sometimes can only be accessed by pain...whoa.

Is 61:1 He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners... And it is true of all people, hearts are shattered and we tend to suppress it, like John's fears.

H7665 - shabar - rend violently, wreck, crush - broken, be maimed, be crippled, be wrecked - to shatter

Very important stuff to be seeking what Christ is doing for us, fixing our "maimed" inside. It is really exciting to think about how we were not designed for the junk of this world, we were designed to be living in a secure place.

I diligently copied the prayer John used in the warfare stream. I try to pray it everyday and can feel a difference. I have included my mom & grown son in it and apparently my mom can see some difference because she asked if I was praying for her. I want a relationship like John has with God. More importantly I want my husband to have a relationship with God like John does. There was a time I was tuned into what God had to say and I want to get back to that place!

You can get the daily prayer with all the scriptural references at this link:

Since 2011, I keep a copy of that prayer in my prayer journal (on bright green paper).
