Jan 8 commentary
I am not in agreement with the commentary concerning Lot. Before Jesus died for our sins the angels were the "sons of God" which are holy and prefect exactly the way God created them. Lot knew they were angels. And he did not want that which is holy to be profaned by the sodomites. But...his daughters like him are born into sin and already profane in God's eyes. It was better to defile a sinner than to defile someone HOLY. He was willing to sacrifice his daughters rather than profane holy sons of God the very angels sent to save them. If he had let the men take the angels Lot would have been destroyed with the city. Lot passed the righteousness test at least in that moment in time. But because his daughter were sinners and profane and apparently did not have faith that God could and WOULD preserve them sinned against their God and their own father with their scheme. These people were with Abraham for many years. They saw Abraham's trust in his Lord. Even Lot's wife wanted the life among the sodomites, that is why she looked back. Thinking of all that she would lose by leaving. If you truly love God you have everything you need no matter where you go or what you lose. Hebrew bloodlines are through the female genes. Women were honored though there were many restrictions for the weaker sex back them. Due to the lawlessness you couldn't go anywhere alone and be safe.

Hi Deborah,
I have discovered The Voice translation and think it provides some interesting insight on these verses. Below is the copy and paste from Bible Gateway's DAB reading, but in the Voice version rather than the translation Brian is using:
Men of Sodom: Where are the men who came with you to your house tonight? We saw them go in with you! Bring them out here. We want to have sex with them!

6 Lot slipped out of the door to address the men, shutting it firmly behind him.

Lot: 7 Look, I beg you, brothers, don’t do this. Don’t sink to this level of depravity! 8 Look—I have two daughters. Both are virgins. How about this: I’ll bring them out for you instead. You can do with them as you please. But please don’t do anything to these men. They are my guests. They deserve the protection of my home.

(Highlighted commentary)Lot leaves the safety of his home to negotiate with the men of the city, all of whom seem determined to have sex with his guests. Although his courage is commendable, his solution is deplorable—offering his virgin daughters for the deviant pleasures of his neighbors. But Lot knows their sexual preference is for his guests, not his daughters; so the offer is safe, and he has bought some time.

Lot could tell they were angels. No one else could. Lot knew that the men couldn't have hurt Angels from God. Lot didn't need to stall for time. The angels did strike the men outside with blindness.

I do believe just as Abraham was willing to sacrifice his child, Lot was willing to sacrifice his daughters. The test.
