2 Kings 1:1-2:25 ~ Acts 13:42-14:7 ~ Psalm 139:1-24 ~ Proverbs 17:19-21
Today is the 21st day of June. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible and Happy Father’s Day to all of the fathers in our community. Like I said of Mother’s Day…different countries celebrate mothers and fathers on different days but here, in the US, this is Father’s Day so Happy Father’s Day, no matter where you are. There’s never not a good time to honor the role of ‘Father’ in our lives. And men, let this special day that honors you be a call to action to you as well. May we father our children and those within our sphere of influence as we have been fathered by our Heavenly Father.

So it’s a brand new week. We will read from The Voice translation this week. It’s a brand new week, brand new day, brand new book, 2 Kings.

Introduction of a New Book:

Although there’s not a lot to unpack, 1 and 2 Kings were broken apart for ease so they don’t have a different slant. There’s not something for me to say to unpack what the Kings are that I haven’t said in 1 Kings. It’s just the continuation on, so we find ourselves in the era of the Kings. Alright, we had a season where we were in the Judges and we went through all those leaders and now we’re in the era of the Kings. We continue to see the spiral that is every increasingly and quickeningly downward as we read the stories of the Kings of Israel, the Northern Kingdom, and of the Kings of Judah, the Southern Kingdom of Israel.

Commentary:

Okay, for me, Psalm 139 is one of my favorite psalms and is worth really continual review. When the fog of life descends and we forget our orientation and the story that we are a part of, Psalm 139 is there to remind us of reality. We are beautifully crafted in the image of God which indicates his loving care and his loving kindness toward us, the fact that his heart is good towards us, which is one of the things that gets assaulted more than anything else in our lives, right? I mean, things come against us constantly...big things, little things, little diversions, little disruptions, big disruptions, big invasions, right? This is human life. We’re constantly navigating and what we know to be true is that we will not navigate without the Navigator, right? Without the Comforter, without the Spirit of Truth, without the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we will be unsuccessful at navigating this life on our own. We know this. But what is so sinister is the subtle ways that these disruptions and these hardships and the things that we face in life pull us and try to twist us and spin what is going on so that somehow it becomes God’s fault while the adversary just slips back into the night. And so we’re just kind of left with this mistrust between us for something that God hasn’t done so that we can then self-destruct by leading ourselves into complete isolation, trying to navigate on our own, believing that God might not come through or that His heart isn’t really good toward us.

Psalm 139 shows us very clearly God’s heart. We were made by hand, by an artisan, a creator that has the medium of life to work with and we are here because of it. We are supposed to be here. And we can run but we cannot hide. We can walk away but we can’t get away. There is no where we can go that He is not. He will not enslave our hearts and highjack us as much as we might appreciate that sometimes. He will always wait for our openness and our open hearts toward him, our good hearts toward him to intervene, but there is no where we can go that He is not.

Psalm 139 poetically and brilliantly resets our orientation to reality and if things have gotten foggy, if you are in a grey mist that you cannot get out of, here is the light in the darkness. Fall back on this psalm. Read it over and over and allow your heart to be transformed or reawakened to what is true.

Prayer:

Father, we do open ourselves to that completely. Sometimes it’s just simply hard to believe you would care so much. We know who we are and we know that you know who we are. What we fail to realize is that we are a different person with you. We know who we are without You. And we know that You know that, too. And we self-identify with that, all of our failures and shortcomings, all of our vices and addictions, all of our compulsions and distractions, while failing to realize that our identity with You, in You is a completely different thing all together. We thank you for this psalm, this beautiful ancient work of David that has no less impact now than it must of have had then. We need this orientation to our reality now as much as anyone has ever needed in history. So we invite your Holy Spirit to come, speak these words of truth, plant them deep in the soil of our lives. And may they yield the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives. Come, reorient us, reawaken us, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hello, Daily Audio Bible Family, this is Sinner, Matthew Chapter 6, Verse 6. Lord these words you have given me, I give back to you. Let’s pray: Responding to Brian of Ohio, Almighty Father, we pray for your hand of power to touch the life of Brian’s sister-in-law, to break the chains of addiction in her life. We pray for the Holy Spirit to come and guide her, to reveal to her the depths of love you have for her and give her faith that you can heal her, sustain her, and carry her. We pray for Brian and his wife, that they may be vessels of your love to her and that they might be tools used by the Holy Spirit to help Brian’s sister-in-law off the road she is on. Give Brian and his wife patience, understanding, and faith to handle this situation with love and grace. Heavenly Father, we lift up Tiamonique of the UK. We pray that she would be able to find a routine that works for her to be able to spend time every day with you, Mighty God, to spend time in your Word, to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, and to connect with her sisters and brother’s of faith in DAB. We also pray for an opportunity of employment for her husband, that you would guide both of them to the places and callings you have in store for them. Lord of all healing, we lift up Anne of North Carolina, we pray for her heart, that the Holy Spirit would fill her with love, light and grace. We pray for godly wisdom for Anne regarding whether to attend her daughter’s wedding in September. Reveal to her your will in this matter, Lord God and speak to the hearts of Anne’s estranged children. We pray for truth, reconciliation, and for healing between Anne and her children. Lord, restore this family. Father God, we lift up Bill B., the missionary to Uganda. We pray for safe travel for Bill and for your favor upon his team and the boys they work with. We pray that you would grant them strength of faith, understanding and wisdom to continue in their work. Bless the work of their hands and their hearts. We pray also for your word to enlighten and nourish the boys in the MIDP homes in Moroto, that they might turn to your Holy Spirit as their teacher and guide. We ask all these things in Mighty….

Hey guys, this is Nick from the Tampa Bay area. I know my Dad’s probably listening to this right now. This is my first time calling in; I’ve been listening for about a week, although I’m all the way back in January because I wanted to hear the Bible from the beginning. Why I’m calling is my wife and I are going through a few struggles and something I wanted to share that was really cool with you is last night when I was taking my daughter to the bathroom to give her a shower, my wife and I taking our daughters to the bathroom to give them showers, my oldest asked me if I was feeling better and I told her yes and she told me that Jesus is walking with me. I stopped in my tracks and I felt Him right away. I asked her a few questions, like “what did He look like?” and “what did He do?” and I asked her if He said anything to her. She said, “No, He just walked to the bathroom with you.” And I asked her, “did He look cool?” and she goes, “no...He looked like Jesus.” So Amen, right? And this morning, when I woke up to do one of my Bible studies, I read Isaiah 53:2 and it talks about how he was never seen by us as a handsome man or attractive in any way. I just want you guys to keep us in your prayers. The struggle that we’re going through…

Hi Dabbers, Walta here from Charlotte. I am calling today because I’m trying to do the opposite of what I feel like doing. I’m just calling to praise God today, you know, it’s about 7 o’clock in the morning, I’m driving to work, and everything seems to be going not the way I would plan, but I just praise God that God is in control. And there’s a cool song that I’ve been listening to, it’s called “The Lion and the Lamb” and it says, “Our God is a Lion, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He’s roaring with power. He’s fighting our battles and every knee will bow before him. This is our God, is our Lamb. The Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world and his blood breaks every chain so every knee will bow before him. Every knee will bow before for the Lion and the Lamb. So I just want to share that with you guys today. And just to proclaim it out loud that Our God, our God…He is the Lord of Lords, so Dabbers, I love you guys have a wonderful rest of your week and I will do the same. Love you and I’m out.

Good morning everybody on the Daily Audio Bible podcast, my name is Matt and I’m from Ontario, Canada. I’m a blind listener and I listen to your podcast through an app called Overcast on the iOS platform. It’s finally great to say that I am a listener of the podcast and actually enjoying the Daily Audio Bible rather than the weekly or monthly as I had been doing previously. I’m now listening to the podcast every day and enjoying it every morning or whenever I can get a chance to listen to it but it’s usually in the morning. I just want to let you guys know that I am praying for all of you and I have a bit of a prayer request myself. In September, the end of August, beginning of September, I will be going out to Yorktown Heights, NY near White Plains to Guiding Eyes for the Blind to get my first ever guide dog and I do have some worries and concerns and some fears so please pray that everything will go smoothly and that the match will be good and the partnership will be what God wants it to be and thank you very much and I hope to hear you all soon. Take care, God bless and I love you all. Bye-bye.

Hello DAB Audio Family, I am Leslie and I live in Marin County, California. I’ve been listening for four years. This is about the first time I’ve called in. I want y’all to know y’all prayed for me and you got me through cancer and I am now cancer free. It’s a wonderful thing. I even have a Facebook page where I post the Daily Audio Bible. It’s called “Grounded in the Word” and we all come together and listen every day and we read it as well. But anyway, I am calling in today because I’ve heard a lot of you say you’re being attacked by the enemy. Saints, I want you to know that when you were baptized in the Holy Spirit, you have an anointing over you. That anointing, the same anointing that Jesus gave his apostles, you have that. All you have to do is nullify the power of the enemy. The Word says resist the Devil and he will flee. So you just speak out, ‘I nullify the power of the enemy over my life and in this situation. I decree and declare divine health, prosperity, wealth, favor, and wisdom from the Lord. I ask for abundant grace from heaven and I receive it.’ You say those every day and I promise, the Holy Spirit won’t leave you. He’ll show up. He’ll be there. He’ll answer your prayer. And just when the devil attacks you, you start praising Jesus. And he will flee, I promise. It worked with me through cancer. It will work with you in every situation. I love you guys so much, God bless you.

Hi, this is Jennifer, calling from the Pacific Northwest. Today is June 18th and Brian’s reading of 1 Kings really struck me in how Elijah’s life so closely is paralleling my husband’s life. He’s been a police officer for about 15 years and there has definitely been famine and drought in his life and in our marriage. But over a year ago, God showed up in a miraculous way and He restored our marriage, redeemed it and changed it. He restored his relationship with our children and it was a miracle in so many ways about how God changed his heart and life and that lasted for about 6 months and then at the end of those 6 months, he said that it was all a lie and he didn’t know if he believed in God. He didn’t love me anymore and he regretted having so many children. I know that’s not true. Things have improved a little bit since then and he is home again but, like Elijah, he’s found himself in a cave. It’s his man cave that he built downstairs and put soundproof walls in and filled it with all kinds of the comforts of this world. He works 12-1/2-hour days, 6 and 7 days a week. And on his one day off a week, he can be found in there, behind closed doors. He even takes his meals in there. So I’m praying that you would please pray with me that God would call him out of his cave and ask him, “what are you doing here?” and that God would do another miracle in his life, this time for good, and that he would turn again to God and to his family and not live this lonely life in his cave. So please pray with me, I appreciate it. Again this is Jennifer from the Pacific Northwest. Thank you. Bye-Bye.
