2 Kings 22:3-23:30~ Acts 21:37-22:16 ~ Psalm 1:1-6 ~ Proverbs 18:11-12
Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. Today is the 3rd of July. Greetings from the lovely, beautiful state of Maine, a very nice place to be, winter, summer, whenever, but strikingly beautiful here in the summer. So we’re here to be part of the River Rock Festival. I’ll be speaking from the main stage here, I think somewhere between 2:00 and 3:00. Be sure to come and say ‘hello.’ Good to be here. Just a brief visit to Maine, but Maine is a wonderful place to visit if you ever get the chance. It has been many years actually since I’ve been here. I'm trying to remember. I think it was…man, it's been a while. The last time I was up here Jill was on tour, so it was a music tour. Nice to be back. Hello Maine. Alright, so, we’re reading from the Common English Bible this week and we’re kind of rounding the corner on this week.

Commentary:

Okay, so Old Testament: Josiah, another reforming king, not to be redundant, but just to keep our orientation to what is going on here straight, there was a Promised Land, right? I mean, Moses was leading us towards it most of the first part of the year and then Joshua takes over on behalf of Moses when Moses dies and Joshua leads these people into the Promised Land. It is all divided up and there is this large land that was promised and the Israelites are living there and establishing a culture and a country that lasts a long time, all the way through the Kings until after Solomon, and then there is a split of the kingdoms. The northern kingdom has been gone a long time now.

We just read of Hezekiah. As the Assyrians are trying to take over Judah, he pleads before the Lord and is following in the footsteps of David and God saves them. But one generation later, one king later, Hezekiah's son is sacrificing his son in the Hinnom Valley. This is how erratic it all is. He is rebuilding all the things his father tore down.

So we zoom ahead. Because we’re moving through the kings rapidly we lose orientation to time. There is no Israel. There is only Judah when we come to Josiah who is another reforming king today. About 70 years have passed since Hezekiah when temple repairs are being done and they find the instructions of Moses. They are read before the king and the king is pierced to the heart. He tears his clothes because he realizes just how far they have drifted. So he goes on a mission to purify the land and restore it to God. God's favor is upon Josiah, but this is all short-lived. We are one step away from seeing the end of Judah. When that happens, it is the end of the Promised Land as we’ve known it this whole year.

So this systematic back and forth that we experience in the scriptures is also in our lives, the back and forth, right? But what we’re seeing is more drifting away from God than returning to God, and it is exponentially disintegrating the fiber that was Israel. So it is not just about them being taken into exile or overcome by stronger militaries that are around them. They’ve vanished over time. They’ve become something else.

This is very true of us as people and societies and very true in our own lives. There is a lot to consider when we consider the span of a lifetime and the years that we choose well and the years that we live poorly. They will ultimately transform us into something we don’t recognize and carry us into exile in our own lives or they will reform us and shore up the foundation and return us to who we really are: The children of God. So may we consider as we continue through the stories that are our spiritual heritage where it is we want to end up.

Prayer:

Father, we come into your presence once again asking for your Holy Spirit's power that can reform us, that can reframe us, that can restart us. We invite you, Holy Spirit, to lead us into all truth and we ask that you help us follow you instead of spinning and spiraling further away from you. Rebuild us. Shore up the foundations of our lives by leading us into all truth, leading us deeper into Jesus, leading us on the narrow path that leads to life. Come Holy Spirit, we pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Announcements:

Www.DailyAudioBible.com is the website, home base. It is where you find out what is going on around here. Of course, the summer festival tour is what is going on around here. I’ll be speaking in a little bit here at River Rock and then next week down in the Blue Grass area in Lexington, KY for Ichthus, but before that we have the special day that is on or calendar that we’ve been talking about for a couple of weeks: The Daily Audio Bible Long Walk, which takes place the 7th of July, every July 7th. It is just, well, I don’t know what else I can say that I haven’t said over the last couple of weeks. It is just the opportunity to model in our own lives exactly what we claim that we do – walk with God.

The thing about walking with God is, as ever present as it might be, we’re very distracted from it most of the time. So there was this “what if” question. What if we went for a long walk like we were in love? What if we went for a long walk with God like we would with somebody we had fallen in love with, where time wasn’t the point, where conversation was effortless and free and we just said what we needed to say and it was a beautiful time?

So that is what July 7th is about. Take some time, whatever time you can. Maybe you can take the whole day. Maybe you can just take a few hours or whatever. Go somewhere beautiful, wherever it is that you find to be beautiful near or far from you and go for a long walk with the one who loves you more than anyone ever will and spend that kind of time. Waste that kind of time with the one that you love. What you’ll find is that it is not wasted time. It centers us. It orients us. It changes things. So plan for it. It is coming up this Tuesday.

The one thing that we do together that makes it like a community event is we just say wherever it is you go, snap a picture with your phone or whatever. Snap a picture and then send it into the Daily Audio Bible Facebook page which is www.Facebook.com/DailyAudioBible. Then we post those up in there, and then there are these windows into each other's lives. It's very cool. So plan for that.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at the website. Thank you. Thank you for your partnership here in the summertime. I appreciate it more than I can say. If you prefer, the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996, Spring Hill, TN 37174.

If you have a prayer request or comment, (877) 942-4253 is the number to call.

That's it for today. I'm Brian. I love you. I will be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayers and Praise Reports:

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. This is Melissa. If you remember my prayer request I’ve been calling in, I left my marriage after 26 years. It was a bad situation. I finally had the courage God gave me to leave, stayed in Texas for a while and now I'm in Oklahoma City with my daughter. I had interviewed last Friday for a job and I'm waiting today and in prayer and asking you to pray. I know that it will already be done after this goes through, but I got the courage to call and just knowing that you’ll be praying for me either to comfort me with the decision or to celebrate with me God's graces that he has given me, because he has given me so many blessings. Every day he blesses me since I’ve left and I know that he is encouraging me and letting me know that what I’ve done is the right decision and I’ve raised my children and I’ve endured it long enough and it's time for me to move forward. That is my word – forward. So if you’ll just join with me, family, that God's graces would be granted to me today and that this job will be given to me. I thank you for your prayers. Biola, Blind Tony, Pastor Gene, thank you all so much for your prayers. I listen every day and sometimes twice a day and pray for you all. Brian and Jill, I love you both so very much. I’ve been listening since 2008 and you have blessed me immensely over these years. I can’t thank you enough for the ministry that you’ve given us. Thank you all. Good day.

Hi Daily Audio Bible. This is Kim from south Texas. I called a couple of weeks ago regarding my mother going into the nursing home and some issues that it was causing in our family. I’d like to give a praise report. She is in the nursing home. We’re calling it the rehab facility so she is a little bit more comfortable with it. But my brothers and I all seem to be dealing with it well. She is dealing with it well and she is very happy. She is getting up out of bed, which is a vast improvement from the last time that she went in even on a temporary basis. So praise God for just her willingness to put her health first and to realize that she needed to make this move and couldn’t be by herself anymore. My daughter and I still are not speaking and I'm praying that will come to an end soon, that she will see that things are not meant to be this way and that her heart will just be broken and she will want to come home and have a relationship with me again. Also, I started a new job 2 months ago and it is not turning out exactly the way I thought. My new boss is really, she is hard to work with sometimes, and so I just pray for your guidance and for God to still my tongue and to have patience with this woman. I realize that she has things going on in her life that I don’t know about and that is probably why she lashes out the way she does. I just pray that I can be a light in her life and bring God's love and show her compassion and mercy the way God shows us. So please continue to pray for me and my family and our situation. I love you all and I look forward to listening every single day. Bye.

Hey Dabbers, this is Slave of Jesus from North Carolina. Lord, we ask you to watch over Rich from Mississippi. Lord, help heal his heart from all the actions that his mother __________ for him. Help remove any heaviness that he has towards his mother. We ask that his mother come to Christ, she learns to speak to him in an honorable way that would honor you, in Jesus’ name, amen. You hang in there, Rich. You are a wonderful child of God and that is all you need to know. Parents are our parents but God is our Father. Lord, we ask you to pray over Zachary who is dealing with drugs in California and homelessness. We ask you to watch over him. We ask that you turn this situation around and use it for good. We ask you to continue to give the wisdom to his parents as they learn to just pray and maybe they learn Exodus 14:14, that you will fight their battles for them, in Jesus’ name, amen. Also calling up today about how to pray. Like I said, when I came to Christ, even after I came to Christ, I didn’t know how to pray. I had never seen it modeled, darn it, but one of the great things to do is say The Lord's Prayer. That is a great way to start out your day. First __________ in the morning. It also lets the enemy know that you're ready to battle. He wants to come around and pull you back down. And also The Daily Prayer. It is on Ransomed Heart and it is also on the Daily Audio Bible App under the Media tab. You download that, you say that every day and for all of you who are new, people used to call in all the time just saying that kind of long prayer, just saying it the second out of bed will change your life by doing it every single day. Love you all. Have a great day.

Hi Daily Audio Bible. My name is Irma and I’ve been a listener for about 8 years and traveled through the Word. I just thank you so much for this ministry. I just wanted to say that this morning was so sweet I just had to call in. This is my first time. But Brian, you spoke from another translation that I was reading and you said “the stormy winds that do what God says,” and so I just have to say we are living in East Greenwich in New Jersey and that storm that just affected everyone on the last Tuesday in June, the chimney on our house was lifted and then mashed onto the roof and water was pouring through the middle of our house, so there was a lot of damage done in electrical things, our heater, just tons of stuff. There was lead paint under the ceiling so we’re not allowed to live there right now, but I just thank God that these things are in his hands. I want to thank him for the storms and the good times. We had just taken in a young woman that needed a place for a while, so all 3 of us are living with friends and making the best of it and thanking God through it. I just want to thank you for the ministry because it’s really such a lift. I'm a pastor's wife. As soon as someone gets saved, we recommend the Daily Audio Bible to them to get connected right away in the Word. We give them a 1-year Bible and so we are just so pleased at how people grow as soon as they get into the Word. So would you just keep us in prayer that we have wisdom as we deal with the insurance companies and for all the families that have been affected by this and the grace of God that no one was killed in like 3 or 4 towns, but also that he would just give us wisdom and to rejoice through it?

Hello DAB family. This is Paula, the child advocate from Los Angeles calling. I'm calling with just a brief report about a 15-year-old girl. Her name is Mel who I advocate for. I’ve been sharing that she had run away. Basically for the last year she has been in and out of group homes and runs away as soon as she comes back, but good news is Mel turned herself in last week, so she is now in another group home and she tells the group home that she may be pregnant. She is only 15, family, so I ask you to please, please pray for Mel and for her boyfriend, Jacob. Jacob is kind of denying everything, so I don’t know what is going to happen to these 3 young kids, but please keep her in your prayers. The good news is that she is back. She is going to the doctor today. They are going to get her the healthcare that she needs and the therapy that she needs and hopefully, I'm praying that she doesn’t run away again. So thank you, family, for your prayers. I listen every day. I pray for all of you. I want to especially give a shout-out to Jill. Jill, I'm praying for you with your Bell's palsy. I just know you're going to get over this very quickly and for Brian being on the road, I know that is really hard, but a joyous time for you. I'm thinking of you also. So God bless you all, DAB family. I will keep you updated. Thank you so much. Bye.

Hi Daily Audio Bible listeners and fellowship. This is Lisa in Texas and I'm just so grateful for this body of believers. Thank you, Brian, for doing this. It blesses my life. I’ve been listening for 4 years and going through a real difficult trial right now, so I listen to it many times a day right now. I wanted to reach out to Caroline in Colorado who is praying for her son, Zachary. Caroline, I'm walking with you in that right now. My son, James, is in rehab. It is the first time he has wanted help, but he called me tonight to say that he was planning to leave tomorrow. My heart wants to be broken in the natural, but I just continue to stand in faith, like you, and pray scripture, like you are, like 2 Corinthians 10:4 that says the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. God's Word also says in Isaiah that his Word will not return void, that it will accomplish its purpose. So Caroline, I just want you to know that I heard your prayer today and it touched my heart as a mother very deeply and I was so moved by what you said about the fact that you are making sure that every day, by what you're doing right now, reaching out for prayer, listening to the Daily Audio Bible, that you were putting your relationship with Jesus, Yeshuah, first, and that is so key. Your call for prayer actually inspired and helped me in a moment when I needed it, too, so I just wanted you to know that I heard you, that I'm praying, and I want to ask the Daily Audio Bible listeners to pray with me for James, that he will not leave rehab and he will be healed, that this is his time and that God will just this very night say something to his heart that will change his mind and that he will walk in newness of life this very day. Thank you. Bye.
