1 Chronicles 11:1-12:18 ~ Acts 28:1-31 ~ Psalm 9:1-12 ~ Proverbs 19:1-3

Today is the 11th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s good to be here with you today from lovely Kentucky and the Ichthus Festival where I’m scheduled to speak this morning. Looking forward to that. It’s good to be here with you at the end of another week.

We close the books on another week together and get ready for the next one because life moves on. Every day is a step forward through life and every day is a step forward in our deepening relationship with the scriptures. One of the best friends we will ever have is the word of God. That’s why we come here every day.
We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week which is today.

Commentary:

Okay, the Proverb for today is speaking directly to some of the things we were touching on yesterday as far as our posture of heart toward God. When we face certain things or when we’ve kind of walked into some things that aren’t working out so well, we can get this subtle mistrust going, like he’s not really present or that he doesn’t really care. When push comes to shove we’re kind of on our own.

We wouldn’t say that out loud but we live that way. This is not a new phenomenon. This is an old phenomenon. This has been going on throughout the entire Bible thus far. We’re watching those choices and where those choices lead. But the Proverbs, they just have almost a magical way of cutting right through all of the explanation and just saying, “Here is the truth,” in one or two sentences.

Desire without knowledge is not good and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.

Alright, so it’s not that desire isn’t good. It’s desire without knowledge, so a passion towards something without knowledge isn’t good, but with knowledge, it’s a different story. Being passionate while walking with God methodically and systematically and just in friendship is a totally different thing than just running headlong into something. You can miss your way.

In this verse 3: When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin then his heart rages against the Lord which is the great irony. We’ll get a desire, a passion for something, maybe not have the knowledge, maybe not slow down and walk with God into what he’s inviting us into. Even if it’s for him, we’ll just go headlong making haste and then miss our way and then blame God for our own folly. This misunderstanding, it’s a horrible thing because it estranges us so deeply from the relationship that we’re invited into.

I mean you misunderstand people in your life that you’re in a relationship with over and over and over and the relationship begins to crumble. We assume so much and then misunderstand and we got a mess on our hands in the relationship. Somehow we think that that’s not how it would work with God. But, our constant misunderstanding of his heart toward us and our constant misstepping without slowing down and walking with God really make messes in our lives. It’s just one of the reasons why just a few days ago we had this little exercise that we do every July 7th, the Long Walk. It’s to model exactly that, slow the world down and walk with God. Go for a long walk, see what that’s like. What if our lives could move at the pace of a vibrant and in love relationship, because that’s a different pace than the world works at.

When we’re falling in love with somebody, time is not the important thing. Neither is productivity or any of the other things that we are driven like mice on a wheel toward. That’s not how relationships work. We’re just kind of expanding on and reviewing what we were talking about yesterday. God’s heart toward us couldn’t be any more clear. Every page of the Bible, every step of this journey we’ve been on together for this far in this year has shown us he’s a very passionate Creator and very, very much involved in what’s going on. He is a redeemer. Whatever we give him access to and permission to touch by our own offering of ourselves, he comes.

It’s like what we’ve been doing this whole year. We have to reframe this whole thing, not this mysterious aloof God that we cannot figure out so we just keep trying to follow a recipe so that we can at least be inside of a boundary even though we don’t really understand it so that we’re like in good shape. That’s just not how relationships work. We’re invited into a first person collaborative, integrated, in love, always on, never off relationship. If we could reframe what that looks and feels like in our lives and make it very present like the most present thing in our whole lives, everything would change. I believe that with all my heart because that is how we are made.

May we take the plunge, reframe our own heart's posture toward God, stop blaming him for what we do, stop raging in the wrong direction, as the Proverb is instructing us. This reframe will change everything.

Prayer:

Father, we come again. It’s not the first time or the second or the third or the fourth time we’ve come at it from this angle. You keep chipping away, chipping away all the things that are built around our hearts and all the things that we’ve built up around you, trying to break through to us as we continue to try to figure you out and break through to you when it’s just not that complicated. We are made for you and you want to be with us. Come Holy Spirit, plant these truths deep in our hearts, just like we prayed yesterday, at the level of our identity, changing us irreversibly so that these truths are part of who we are. They are non-negotiable. They are fact. Come Holy Spirit and lead us into all truth. We pray in Jesus’ name and by his authority. Amen.

Announcements:

Www.DailyAudioBible.com, that’s home base. That’s where you find out what’s going on around here. Mostly what’s going on around here, for me, anyway, is travel. These summer festivals that we are at, so I’m in Kentucky now, go home, do laundry, and back out to Minnesota. That’s what we’ve devoted the summer to doing. It’s a bunch of work so thank you for your prayers. But, it’s a true joy to spend time out and among the community. Looking forward to being in Minnesota next week and then Washington State at the end of the month. Looking further into August, I’ll be kind of changing gears and beginning Reframe and sharing that message as we get closer to October when the Reframe book comes out. That will sort of kick off mid-month of August, 15th and 16th, I’ll be speaking at the Penn Theatre at the Heartbeat of Plymouth, in Plymouth, MI so hope to see you there.

Hi, this is Andrea from Kentucky and I’m calling to say thank you to the Daily Audio Bible community. I started listening to the Daily Audio Bible from a recommendation from a friend. I’m so grateful for that friend. I’ve been through a tsunami of events over the last couple of years. Just listening to the Daily Audio Bible brought healing to me. Listening to the community of people that love one another and are praying for one another, many of the prayers that I listened to were prayers that helped me as well. Thank you for that. Give praise for that. My uncle committed suicide. My parents of 39 years divorced. I encountered tumors and different health challenges and so many other financial and relationship challenges. Through all of that, I just want to testify that the Lord is faithful. He’s in the process of healing every area of my life. I just want to say thank you and that if you’re going through a trial and struggle and challenges, that the Lord is faithful. Sometimes it requires us learning new skills, learning new things that change our lives. Sometimes it just means that we just wait on the Lord and let other people pray for us and let them heal our hearts through the Word and through prayer. I just want to say thank you. Keep going, don’t quit and you matter. God bless you all. I’ll call back soon but I just wanted to say thank you. Bye.

Oh Lord, my God, you are my strength and you are my shield. I will be still and know that you are God. DAB family, this is Walta from Charlotte. I battled since Sunday whether I should call or not. As of Sunday morning, 7:15, my older son the 17-year-old went missing. He’s still missing. No one knows where he is, but it was his voluntary departure. The night before he showed up at 3:30, I told him he was grounded. He got upset and went to bed and the next morning he was gone with a note saying that he’s old enough to live on his own. I’m not going to let the devil win. I just praise the Lord for reuniting me and my 7-year-old son. It’s so easy for the devil to try to turn everything to bad. But, I remember my testimony and I will continue to share it. When I was 14 years old, my family was put at a firing squad during the 1990 war in Liberia. I saw people get killed and I cried out to the top of my lungs and said Lord, if you save my life, I will live for you. Minutes later, trucks came, truckloads of rebels came and they called into my father’s place and said Dr. __________ and your family please, join us and they saved us. For this reason, I believe God is my God and he will never leave me nor forsake me. I’ve been through so much over the years. I know that God will bring my son back to me. This said, I know it’s heartbreaking, but I know my family is going to remember God’s goodness. That God has saw me worthy of trials. He has saw me worthy to tell the testimonies of his goodness. I just want to share that with you today. God be glorified. In Jesus’ name.

Hello, Daily Audio Bible community. This is John from South Alabama. I’m calling in today, specifically, to request prayer for myself. Not long ago I was listening and Slave of Jesus made mention of the Windfarm Daily Prayer and others that have called in have also mentioned this prayer. I started praying this daily prayer back in September of 2014, just recently. I’ve done it consistently, every day. I mean, I may have missed a few days, but I’ve been pretty consistent with doing it. I can tell you, my life has completely changed since I have begun to honor God daily with that prayer. In the first paragraph of that prayer, there is a section that says, “I stand in total agreement with your spirit and with my intercessors and allies by your spirit alone.” I’m calling today to ask for intercessors and allies. If you guys will, just lift my name up in prayer. Call my name out to the Father that his will be done in my life. All I want is to fulfill the will of God for my life. I want to use wisdom in all of my decisions and all of my going, coming, everything that I do. If you would, just pray that the will of God be done in my life as I do for you.
Good afternoon, I’m Claudia, calling from California, southern California. I would like to ask for prayer for my son. He’s a believer. He’s having such a hard time with his daughter. Really, he realizes he spoiled her as she was growing up as he and his wife divorced and he sort of was the weekend father. He just gave her everything and the wife did also. Now, she doesn’t really appreciate anything that they do. She expects everything. Would you pray please that my granddaughter, who lives in the area, will realize that her parents, both of them, they love her greatly and that they want to help her, but she’s stopped going to college? She’s just sort of ambling around, n Nothing decisive in her life. I’m a believer. She went to Christian schools but she doesn’t seem to understand and lean on Jesus at all. I want to thank you. Thank you for all the prayer warriors. I listen to you every day. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, amen. Bye-bye.

Hey, y’all. Hey, this is Annette A. from Oklahoma City. Hey, I want to thank you guys for keeping me in your prayers. Those of you who may have been praying for me with the wisdom tooth big face surgery thing I had. No, I didn’t get really hit in the face with an ax. It just felt that way. But, I’m healing up and everything is doing way better. I’ve still got a little numbness but everything is going great. It was a big, big deal. Hey, if y’all wouldn’t mind praying for my youngest son, Alex. He is up there in Greeley, CO. He has been doing really, really well with some contracting jobs. Got himself some money together and is trying to get himself legally squared away. Monday, that would be somewhere around the 11th or so, whatever Monday is, he will be going to a work-release camp where he can maintain his job and serve his time. If you guys would just keep him in your prayers, that things may come together for him, I’d sure appreciate it, and that he remain safe. Alright? I love you guys. I’ll talk to you guys real soon. Bye-bye.
