2 Chronicles 35:1-36:23 ~ 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 ~ Psalm 27:1-6 ~ Proverbs 20:20-21

Today is August 4th. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you today. It's going to be a fun day. We’re beginning Paul's letter to the Corinthians, first letter to the Corinthians today in a few minutes and we’ll talk about that shortly, but first, we’re reading from the Modern English Version, 2 Chronicles 35:1 through 36:23 today.

Introduction of a New Book:

Alright, we finished the book of Romans yesterday which brings us to 1 Corinthians, Paul's first epistle or letter to the church at Corinth. It is important that we understand Corinth was a hot spot, a destination place in the Roman Empire. It was a great city of trade and commerce. It was, in fact, the 4th largest city in the entire Roman Empire at the time of Paul. So being a trendy city, it had all the things that go along with trendy cities including the melting pot of spiritual ideas, the idolatry, the sexual immorality, all the things that go with a large secularized society. Paul writes this letter as a response to some of the things he is hearing that are going on in the church. Its central theme is going to be unity, church unity. It is no less poignant now than it was then because we’re still struggling with the same things.

Paul talks about a lot of topics, from the way we should behave toward one another to the way husbands and wives should behave to the way we should behave in the church. Some of the most quoted portions of the New Testament are found in 1 Corinthians. Some of the most famous passages are found here – things like “through a glass darkly” or “when I was a child I spoke as a child” and, of course, we have 1 Corinthians 13 which is known as the love chapter, a beautiful work on what love is and what love does.

Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth echoes all through time and into our ears starting today and it has just as much meaning now as it did then. So with excitement we begin 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your Word and we thank you for your love and one of the ways that you have loved us well is by giving us your Word, a tangible gift, something we can hold in our hands, something certainly that we hold in our hearts and by the power of your Holy Spirit and in collaboration with you, in a relationship with you, we invite you to plant these words deep in our hearts, changing us, transforming us. We believe this. We believe in your love. We believe in your mercy that endures forever. We believe in you kindness and all of the beautiful gifts of the Spirit that accompany your presence in our lives and we invite you fully. We need you fully. We cannot survive without you, so come Holy Spirit, we pray, in the name and authority of Jesus and guide us, lead us, be inside of us, be in relationship with us. We open our hearts to you. We trust you. We give ourselves over to you. Come, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Announcements:

Www.DailyAudioBible.com is the website. It's home base. It's where you find out what is going on around here. What I started talking about on the 1st of August was that our gears shift and maybe the brightest blip on our radar right now is Reframe. I mean, we’ve been reframing all year. It's the word for our year. We’ve been diving into that and what it means to shift or look at something differently that we might see it differently so that its meaning could explode more profoundly into our lives, so that we’re not just kind of sleepwalking. We’ve been doing that all year.

Reframe is also a book, a book that was 2 years in the writing and we’re just a short little hop and a skip from it being released on October 1st, but it is available now for preorder. I kind of went into all of that on the 1st. I'm asking you, I'm inviting you to jump on Reframe early and in exchange for that we’ve come up with a few things that we have here that have value and can offset the value of the book. It's my best shot at giving you the book and so I'm asking you to get involved early on Reframe.

We’ve created a 5-film resource that goes along like a group study resource (you can do it individually, too) that goes along with Reframe that will also release on October 1st. It's beautiful. It's profound and it's beautiful, very cinematic, very, very moving in the way that it challenges growth. If you preorder Reframe, we’ll give you the first of those 5 films immediately. You’ll be able to download it. You’ll also be able to download the first chapter and the prologue of Reframe and get started. And we’ve also included a couple of songs from Jill's new record, something that we’ve been working on for a long time and something that we’ve got a ways to go on.

It's been so fascinating to jump back in the studio and pop music, sort of sitting and just kind of diving into Jill's heart and watch her kind of mine her own mind and heart and relationship with God for the words and just collaborate with her. To dive back into the studio and put my record producer hat back on that has been in a nice box up on the shelf for a while. Just kind of dig back into that and produce something. That is what I did for a living for over 20 years. That was my life. So to dive back into the technology and reassemble teams - it's been great.

So we’re offering a couple of songs from that album that is forthcoming right now if you will be willing to jump in on Reframe and help us out for all the reasons I spoke about on the 1st. So go back and listen to the 1st if you haven’t had a chance to check that out. Www.ReframeBook.com is where you would go to find out more information. So please check that out.

Speaking of Reframe, I will begin to turn my focus and attention on that message and the first stop up on that tour is just a little bit out from the book, but not too far out from now. The 15th and 16th of August I will be speaking at the Penn Theatre in Plymouth, MI at The Heartbeat of Plymouth. Man! I'm looking forward to that. I mean, I really, really enjoyed being on the summer festival tour. That was fun, but very, very much different than the kind of touring we’re used to. Kind of turning back toward what I'm used to. So I'm looking forward to having time to hang out and spend some time, hear your stories, just talk a little bit. So we’ll begin that at Plymouth. Go to www.HeartbeatofPlymouth.com for more information and I look forward to seeing you there in a week and a half, I guess. That will be fun.
If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, and again, I can’t…I mean, the words would fail me for sharing gratitude that this community even exists, this family, this thing that is called the Daily Audio Bible that just burst out of the fertile soil of the internet and was watered by the Lord and became what we are, this beautiful community wrapped around the world. We’ve all done what we’ve done together, so I thank you, especially in the summer for your partnership. There is a link at www.DailyAudioBible.com in the upper right-hand corner or, if you prefer, the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996, Spring Hill, TN 37174. And thank you.

If you have a prayer request or comment, (877) 942-4253 is the number to call. And that is it for today. I'm Brian. I love you. I do and I'll be waiting for you tomorrow.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports:

Hi guys, Pastor Gene from Bradenton, FL. Let's pray. Father, I thank you for the Hardin family. I thank you for Zekey's recent birthday. I rejoice with the Hardin's on their beautiful baby and I pray blessings upon him and blessings upon Brian. Thank you for the miracle you did in Jill's life. How could we ever thank you enough? That amazing manifestation of your power. Father, thank you for my brother, Randolph from Rocket City. Thank you for all the encouragement. I pray in the name of Jesus that you would encourage him and strengthen him in his own family and relational issues, O God. Father, I thank you for my sister, Alicia, who is unwilling to compromise, who is determined to wait on you and not to conform to the patterns of this world. Bless her, Lord, and grant her the desires of her heart. It is not easy. It is possible, but it is not easy to walk in holiness before you as a single woman, so I pray for supernatural strength. Father, I pray for my brother, Jeffrey, who is in college and who is being distracted by drugs and probably the inappropriate group of friends and I pray in the mighty name of your Son, Jesus, that you will help him focus on your Word, learn it, memorize it and declare it for when Jesus was being tempted, he said over and over again ‘it is written’, ‘it is written’ and that is how he defeated temptation. And I know that you can equip Jeffrey to do the same. Guys, may the power and presence of God be with you. I love you. Pastor Gene from Bradenton, FL. Bye.

Hi, this is Andrea from New York City. I'm calling in response to a request from Alex about your faith, about just trying to reach out to see if you can get some help getting to faith. Something that you said really touched my heart and I think it is very clear to me that you can hear the struggle in your voice and I'm praying that God has just continued to work in your heart. You are capable of believing in him, but I don’t say that to make you feel like you have to do something or another thing. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He will not force anyone to do anything and God is not in a hurry. So you may have found a church and I'm sure your wife is eager to join and your family maybe is eager to see you do this, but my feeling about this is take your time. Keep praying. Keep seeking God because the Bible says he stands at the door and he knocks. He is there waiting. He doesn’t expect everyone to go rushing to the door and open it wide. People have their own reasons for going at the pace that they do. It took me a long time to really understand who God is and how much he loves me and allow myself to be in that relationship. I think that is what maybe you're struggling with most of all. So I pray that you will simply know the love of God and that if this church or whatever other…and I’ll also pray for your wife's patience with you as you walk towards Jesus. Okay, Alex? Be blessed. Bye.

Father God in heaven, Lord, I lift before you Alex who is seeking you and I pray that you would reveal yourself to him, that you would open up his spiritual eyes, that he would be able to know you and to love you and to receive the love that you have for him. I pray that the blood of Jesus, the cross of Jesus would be made clear, that you would show Alex what that means and that you would open his eyes like you opened up my eyes in 1982. We need you, Lord, and you alone. We cannot reason you out. You are intimate. We are finite. Thank you, Jesus, for your blood. This is Randolph from Rocket City. And Alex, I'm praying for you and will continue to pray for you. If you want to email me, you can email me at Haines777@gmail.com. I assure you, you won't be able to figure out God. He is very reasonable, but it is going to be ultimately by faith. Love you, brothers and sisters. I know you're all praying for Alex as well. God bless you.

It is a daily walk, sister, and I pray that you will continue to do it. __________ the Word of God by yourself daily. Romans 12:1-2 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 are good places to start. God bless you as you capture your thoughts and bring them into subjection to Jesus. I'm praying that God would give you wisdom to handle this delicate situation with wisdom correctly, in the name of Jesus. Hey Daily Audio Bible. Rick from Massachusetts. Hey, Brian, thanks for your faithfulness through all your travel and everything. I'm sure it is no picnic trying to keep up with all this stuff. The reason I'm calling in is on the 29th of July Alex called in for prayer because he is having difficulty finding God. He labeled himself as an agnostic. He has just been going to church for 6 weeks with his wife and they want to join that church and he doesn’t feel comfortable with all it yet. So Body, let's pray for him, pray for his salvation, pray for his understanding. Holy Spirit, guide him. Teach him. Alex, don’t give up, man. Get yourself a…I hope you have a smart phone and download You Version. You get free multiple Bible translations and you can study the Bible through that. You need to study the Bible. You need to renew your mind, as it says in Romans 12:2. Romans 1 says that your mind will be seared. Each time you walk away from God, your mind will be more and more seared, so stay with it. Hang in there. Don’t give up the search. In Jeremiah 29:13, he says “seek me with all your heart and you’ll find me.” I can guarantee that if you stick with this, you're going to be more than happy that you have. Go to You Tube. Charles Swindoll has a 56-minute video that is labeled The Bible is True. The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict. Take the time to watch that and it will support your…

Hello, this is Ann from North Carolina. I just want to say I love you all. I'm so thankful for this community. I'm starting to save my money to be able to go to the women's retreat next time which I haven’t done yet and I'm purposing to do that in the next year, so I'm looking forward to it. I want to encourage people to call in and share when prayer requests are answered. That is just so encouraging to hear because I wonder how some people are doing that I’ve prayed for. Please pray for my children who are alienated and estranged from me, my adult children who I miss and pine over and grieve over daily. Please pray that they will forgive me, that they will know God's love for them, and that the Holy Spirit will do amazing healing in our family and that I will not suffer every morning I wake up, feeling very sad about it. I miss my children so much. My one daughter is getting married in September and I'm allowed to go to her wedding, but I can’t sit with the family. I'm going to go to the wedding, but I know it will be a difficult day for me, so thank you so much for your prayers that I know help sustain me and I pray for all of you and Brian and your family, I'm so thankful for Daily Audio Bible. God bless you. Bye.
