Esther 1:1-3:15 ~ 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 ~ Psalm 35:17-28 ~ Proverbs 21:19-20
Today is August 18th. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It is great to be here with you and it is an exciting day. We’ve reached a beautiful story packed nicely in all that we’ve been going through. As we left Solomon's life, it has been this back and forth since we left Solomon – the apex of the Israelite culture, we’ve been in war, we’ve been in famine, we’ve been all over the place, ultimately seeing the northern and then the southern kingdom fall and everyone being carried into exile and then watching this small group of exiles returning. We’ve been through all of that and it is an amazing story, but a long road. And we reach now this oasis – the book of Esther.

Introduction of a New Book:

Esther is a stunning book that is short in its length but high in drama and intrigue. Esther is the story of a beautiful girl who became queen unsuspectingly and was able to save God's people from annihilation. It is one of the most beautiful stories in the Bible.

Allegorically, we can look at the book through the eyes of God and his love for us, the church, just like we can allegorically look at the Song of Solomon, but Esther is also considered to be one of the books of history for the children of Israel. The book of Esther is the basis for the Festival of Purim for the Jewish people which is established by Mordecai in this book.

The story takes place during the same period in history that we’ve been reading about in Nehemiah and the previous books that describe the Babylonian exile so we haven’t moved to another time. This is contemporary with what we’ve just been involved in. The children of Israel were exiles in Babylon but are allowed to return to their homeland and Esther may have played a large role in this. She plays an important role in keeping her people from destruction. As queen she has great favor from the king. When Esther reveals her heritage as a Jew, the king shows kindness and consideration to God's people.

There are many parallels in the book of Esther that we can apply to our lives now, today – that God will always show up, that circumstances don’t always dictate the outcome of things, that everyone has an important role to play because God brings people into the picture for specific times and specific missions to get major things done in his kingdom. This can be as large as Queen Esther saving God's people from destruction or God sending you across the street to your next door neighbor. So may we enjoy this oasis, the book of Esther, with all of that in mind.

We’re reading from the Names of God Bible this week and we’ll begin Esther 1:1-3:15.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for your Word and this beautiful oasis in the scriptures, this book of Esther, this unbelievable story of your intervention in saving your people. Father, as we move through this story, we invite your Holy Spirit to begin to show us how we are each placed and each members of your body, each here because you desire us to be here, desire intimacy with us, and have missions that we are the only ones to fill. Come Holy Spirit and begin to reveal those things to us, reignite passion in us, reawaken urgency within our hearts and help us to zoom out beyond our own lives and understand that there is more going on here than we generally acknowledge. Help us, Jesus, to find our place in your story. We ask this in your precious name, amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hi. This is Sarah from Nebraska and I had called in a year ago as both mine and my boyfriend's finances were falling apart. I had started looking for a better job for myself to make my ends meet and my boyfriend kept working diligently at his job. He had crooked people making one empty promise after another, but he wanted to believe in the good of man. We’re faithful prayers. We go to church regularly. We try our best to live in God's will, but there were times throughout this year that we literally didn’t think it could get darker or more dismal. Well fast forward a year and God has worked miracles in our lives. I was blessed with an amazing promotion literally out of nowhere and Kent was blessed with a new incredible job opportunity. He had to decide to give up on all he had worked for for 2-1/2 years and just let go and trust God. As soon as he let go, God chose his path and opened a door instantly wide. Praise our amazing God, our Jehovah Jireh. We are so blessed today. And I know tomorrow Pelham and Molly are getting married and I just want to bless you and pray that you have a beautiful memorable wedding day and I just pray that your marriage is united between you, Pelham, Molly and God. I want to shout-out to Sinner. I miss your voice. I miss your prayers. I hope all is well in your life. I love to hear you call in just like I love to hear Christy from Kentucky, Lisa from western North Carolina, Jay from New Jersey, Pastor Gene, Biola from Maryland, Slave of Jesus, Blind Tony, Debbie from Des Moines, Officer Joe. All your voices just brighten my day. I pray that all my DABers’ days are bright and blessed. I love you all.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family. It's Ian from England just calling in with a few prayer requests and a little prayer request and to answer other prayers. Joe, Officer Joe, the word that came to mind was Centurion Joe. I don’t know if that fits you or not, but that is just what came to mind when I listened to you talking. Please pray for the lady that I have been calling in about, had the aneurysm back in February or January. She is doing really well and the doctors know that what has happened to her is not a result of natural medical progress, it is through healing from God, but she still has a long way to go. The whole left side of her body is unresponsive at the moment and we just pray the all the neural pathways and the nerve endings and muscles would just be healed and be formed and that she would smile again and bring hope back into her life. I heard the prayer requests from Brad from Livingston today and my heart went out to you. We pray, Lord, for peace in that situation. We pray that you give strength to him to deal with the situation and how to handle it and how to lead that family. We also pray for harmony and your peace to flow over that family, that that family will be rejuvenated. Pray for that son to come to know you, that he would give glory to you, to Christ. About to run out of time, happy wedding day. Thanks Jay from New Jersey. Thanks Slave of Jesus and thanks Annette for all the encouragement you give. Take care. Speak to you soon. Bye.

Do not be anxious for anything but in everything, through prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God and the peace that passes all understanding will guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Hello DAB family. This is Chante calling from Detroit and I am repeating that scripture over and over and over again this morning because I want to choose not to be anxious. I'm still in it right now, but I'm going to choose not to be that way. Please pray for me and my husband. We have our pack committee meeting this morning for our son's cub scouts pack and he is a cub master and I am the pack committee chair. We had some issues with our printer last night, so we weren’t able to print anything up and we’re just going to use our laptop and I already told everyone to bring their different digital devices and we’re just going to try and do our best, let God lead us and we just pray for a productive meeting. We pray for unity and we pray for the ideas just to flow, for God's wisdom to help us in planning the best scouting year for our boys, for our cub scouts. Yeah, that is pretty much where I'm at this morning. Also, I'm hoping oh so much to see Brian at the Heartbeat of Plymouth. I was going to go today right after the meeting, but the meeting takes place during part of the time he will be speaking, so we’re going to go tomorrow, Sunday.

Hi, this call is for Brad in Livingston. Brad, I hope that you don’t lose heart. These type of things are extremely difficult, especially 15, 16 years old, teenagers. I'm praying for you, Brother, and I would just ask you to reach out to family and friends and just make sure that the family and all are eating properly and that you may be able to get some family counseling. I definitely have been there and I'm praying for you. Just don’t lose heart. Keep loving and reach out to all the friends that you can. Take care, Brad. Bye. This is Rick in Addison, IL.

Good morning guys. It's Andrew from the Bay Area, Drew. Listen, I was just calling in this morning. I'm sitting here on the side of the Bay. It is a beautiful morning and I just heard Brad's call. Brad, I feel your pain, man. It hit me in the heart. I’ve been divorced now for a few years and it still hurts, but what you're going through is tough. So Heavenly Father, let's lift Brad up right now. Lord, we’re here as a community. We love you because you are holy and by faith you made us holy and took our sin. We know you did the same thing for Brad. We ask you to put a circle of angels around him, Lord, and protect him. Let him feel your presence. Lord, let him know that it is going to be okay. Lord, we call on you to make your presence known to his son. Lord, if he won't surrender to you right now, that he, the stepson would know that he's a man of God and not to be messed with. Lord, that you would do whatever it takes to make that known and that you would draw him to you. Lord, that you would draw his wife to you and protect his kids with autism that are yet __________. Lord, we ask you to reframe their minds that they may be made right, not that they’ve done anything wrong, but right in a way that everything is normal with them, that they can think and act and speak in a way that everybody does that doesn’t have autism. Lord, we ask these things in Jesus’ name. Brother, we’ve got your back. Feel the Lord. He is with you. Bye.

Hi, this is Tess from California. It is the 15th of August. I just heard Brad call today and although I have never called before, I just felt very impressed that I need to call. Brad, I want to encourage you and I really want to ask the Lord that he would fill your heart with so much love for this 15-year-old boy that you just can’t even contain it, that you would see that he wants to know if God is truly real from watching you and your wife. He wants to know if God will love him when he is so unlovely, if God will love him when he is at his worst. I pray that God would fill you to overflowing with love for him, that he will show you the way in this matter. Thank you for reaching out. Family, I also want to let you know that if you’ve never supported Daily Audio Bible and you listen every day, Reframe is just the easiest way to show support. You can go on Amazon and easily pre-order your book. I actually ordered two because I'm already anticipating giving one away and I also anticipate buying more than that. Just remember to support this ministry. It is so vital. Thank you to Brian, Jill and your entire staff. Take care family. Bye-bye.
