Job 12:1-15:35 ~ 1 Corinthians 15:29-58 ~ Psalm 39:1-13 ~ Proverbs 21:30-31
Today is the 24th of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is a pleasure and a joy to be here again with you today, taking another step forward and getting ourselves deeper into the book of Job as we read through the Old Testament. And that's where we’ll begin today, reading from the New Living Translation.

Commentary:

So throughout pretty much all of our reading today we’re dealing with hardship, struggle, suffering and even death and watching Job seek out his own argument, being unwilling or immovable in trying to submit an argument to his friends as I they can give an answer that he believes only God can rightfully give. He wants an audience with God and they are back and forth, trying to give Job good counsel, trying to calm him down, trying to say ‘hey, that's not how it works, buddy’ and ‘this wouldn’t be happening to you if there wasn’t a reason for it.’ Like I said when we began Job, you can press into the conversation and realize it is a prudent conversation, it is a fair conversation that they are having. These are the things that we might find ourselves saying. And Job actually has a lot of layers to it, but it does teach us in the end we don’t know all we think we know. We’ll continue to press into that as we move forward.

Then Paul in his letter to the Corinthians is speaking of death and transformation and what a glorified body and what eternal life may look like and the fact that we are in the process of being transformed into that likeness. We find tremendous hope in this particular passage, especially when we’re dealing with death.

Then David is writing about the same thing as we move into the psalms. He says something incredibly poignant. “We are merely moving shadows and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth not knowing who will spend it, so Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.” That is such profound understanding. It encapsulates so much of our lives. We’re running and running and running and running, trying to stay present in the moment in our flesh with very little of the eternal hope that we claim. I mean, we can defer it - we’re here. We’re now. We’re doing what we’re doing and that hope is off in the future. We have it there like an insurance policy, just this unknown mystery that is off in the future called eternity and we’re just here right now spinning our wheels until we get there. According to David, and it is very poignant, that makes us nothing more than moving shadows.

If we bounce back to what Paul is talking about, this transformative process that loosens our grip on this world and allows us to have an eternal vision, knowing that we are in the process of being transformed, we realize that we are constantly being remade, renewed, made new again and that this eternity is something that we are already in. All of the space of our lives is already encapsulated into the span of time that we cannot use time to describe called eternity. Eternity has no beginning or end. The time that we spend in our humanity is within eternity. We are already in eternity. We are fleshly bodies being transformed into heavenly beings, according to Paul.

And according to David, then why would we live this precious gift of our humanity as a moving shadow, missing the whole beautiful gift that we have, as David said, by rushing around in ways that will end in nothing, heaping up wealth, not knowing who will spend it, not realizing that there is only one hope and that hope is in God and in God alone?

May we get some perspective today. There are seasons of struggle, certainly. And yes, our earthly bodies have a way of breaking down and eventually we discard them, but what is happening in our eternal sprit is a process of being transformed and that is going on right now. We are constantly in the process of being changed. We have to embrace the fact that we are in the process of being changed because there is nothing we can do about it for one. And it is how it is supposed to be secondly. We are being remade into the image of Christ our Savior. May we embrace the process, which means we have to loosen our grip on control and our judgments of what is going on here, acknowledging that we don’t know everything that is going on here, but we do have hope. There is one hope. There is an only hope and that hope is in our Eternal Father who has created us in the first place. We are in good hands. May we have eternal vision as we walk through our day today.

Prayer:

Father, that is what we ask for. We invite your Holy Spirit to once again lift our eyes to the horizon. We get so self-absorbed and so singularly focused on what is going on right this minute that we lose track of the fact that we are in eternity, we are being transformed. This is a beautiful gift, this life that you have given us and there are few short years compared to eternity that we get to be flesh-dwelling humans, this lovely gift that you have given us. We consume it and waste it so much, and so we invite you. We want to walk with you. We want to walk at your pace through this life. We want to see the things that you want to show us in this particular life and not waste it in busyness and control, trying to be our own lord when there is only one hope. So come Jesus, show us what that looks like for each of us because it is different for each of us. By the power of your Holy Spirit, guide us in the ways that we should go. We ask in your name, amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports:

Hi guys. It's Joe the Protector from Georgia here. It's August 21st, 4:51 in the morning. Hate to say it again, but I am way behind, way behind again. But anyhow, I'm going to get caught up and call in prayer requests from (I hate to say it but…) August 8th, still calling them in. Okay, Terri from Colorado, we pray over your friend Hans and this battle he is having over thoughts of suicide. We rebuke these demonic spirits in the name of Jesus, that he is no longer plagued with them. Egbert from California, brother, you do not state your request or struggles, but that is okay because we do not have to know, nor do we need to know. Only our Lord does and he already knows everything about us, even if we don’t tell him, but it helps us out when we talk with him and tell him our problems. We’re lifting you up, brother. We pray for Susie in her walk with God. We pray that she seeks his face and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Larry from Ft. Worth, TX, we lift up and pray over you and your family and your search for a home. We ask that the Lord supplies and provides the right one. Cathy, we still speak over Easton and any issues going on with him. I pray that God will just transfigure and give him natural insight and wisdom for healing and/or treatment. That's it for now Dabbers. Love you all. Bye.

Hello and good morning Daily Audio Bible family. This is Jay from New Jersey. Just wanted to share something with you this morning. I used to have problems with anger management and I know there is no one else out there that is dealing with that, so I feel like I can share this story, but anyway, I used to not be able to handle criticism. When people would say things, I would immediately hear the first thing that was offensive and put up a brick wall and I just wouldn’t hear anything else. So yesterday someone began to be mean to me and immediately the Holy Spirit came and said ‘pray.’ So I began to pray and I asked Father God to give me the strength to bear what was coming my way and what you, God, want me to hear, let those words resonate within my ears and what you don’t want me to hear, Father, please allow me to ignore. It was amazing. It was as if everything that was hurtful and mean and slanderous that was designed to tear me down and to hurt me and normally would shred me to pieces and cause me to become extremely upset bounced off of me like water on a waxed car. Everything that made sense, that was actually worth something and that was actually beneficial to build me up, make me better, to make me stronger came through as clear as day. So when you go through times where it is hard and someone is being mean to you and you feel like you can’t handle it, pray to the Almighty God.

Thank you so much Lord for this ministry of the Daily Audio Bible. This is Randolph from Rocket City and I just wanted to express my gratitude for all the extras. In Louisiana they call it though lagniappe, all the extras that Brian provides. You know, I just listened to the talk about reframing on the special little episode that Brian posted on the 19th and that has been awesome. I look forward to the book. I just got done today listening to the book of Job or the opening of it. I'm just so thankful, Lord, that we can walk through this together. Another extra that I always appreciate about what Brian does, Lord, is that this playing of music every now and then, songs that are just really matched to the message. I went ahead and played Phil Keaggy's song Talk About Suffering which is a great song and I'm going to listen next to Brett Bourgeois' Blessed Be the Name which Brian __________ played before that and the reading of the book of Job. So I just want to thank you, Brian, thank you, Lord, for this ministry and just for all the little extras, all the good stuff that you’ve given. In Jesus’ name I pray this and speak it. Amen.

Good morning DAB. This is Walta calling from Charlotte. I'm indeed a burning bush that will not be devoured for the glory of God's name. I kid you not, I could write a book about these things that happen to me, but this happened to me in April and I try not to call because I don’t want to just overwhelm everybody with all the negativity that goes on in my life, but I do like to share the testimonies so I believe that this will bring a testimony, plus I really need prayer right now. In April I was recommended to somebody who was a used car dealer/auction purchaser, whatever. Anyway, long story short, I ended up giving this person my $4000 cash to purchase me a vehicle. Today is August 21st. I still don’t have the vehicle and I don’t have the cash back. By June 16 I wrote him a letter and said, listen, apparently you're having problems giving me my cash, please give me my money back and he basically explained to me that he consumed all my money. He was sorry. So I tried to work out a payment plan. Up until now he still has $2000 __________. He gave me a loaner vehicle to use 3 different times. These cars broke down on me and today I'm here stuck at home, can’t go to work, can’t take my kids to their programs or nothing because I don’t have a car. So anyway, long story short, this is my prayer. Please pray that God will give me justice and give me a car. I really need a car more than justice. I'm willing to forgive this guy. I just need a car. I just need a car to go to work. I work like 30 miles from where I live. My son starts school on Monday. So please pray for a miracle for me. Yeah, I need a car of my own, a car to take me to work. Thank you for praying for me. Thank you, God, for answering.

This is Candace from Oregon. I'm really just desperate for your prayers. The very first time I called DAB it was for my son and wow, since then the progress this young man has made is just outstanding. His dad and I are so proud of him and I know God is proud of him, but he is just going through a lot of really good changes and those changes are really stressful for him. I just want you to pray with us for his protection and that all the demons that want to harass him and lie to him would be rebuked right now by all of us, in the name of Jesus who came to this earth and gave up everything on behalf of this young man and died a criminal's death on his behalf and then rose again from the dead so that this young man, our son would be set free to become everything that God made him to be. I just pray that he could rest in that and trust God. Please agree with us at this time. Thank you.

Hi DAB. This is Shelly in Oklahoma. I was listening to the prayers today on the DAB and I was reminded of blessings and thanks that I needed to share. I have four of them. First, I called in last year and asked for prayers for my mom, Sally, in Denver who had fallen and broken both of her shoulders. You guys showed up so big. She is back to work at Sam's in Denver. It was a long haul. It was very difficult but she is so much better and she is so happy. She can’t lift heavy stuff, but she can do self-check and the door and she is so happy and she is just such a blessing. Okay, number two, last Christmas in my DAB Christmas Box I got a book called Praying for Your Elephant by Adam Stadtmiller. I’ve read it twice. It has changed my prayers, not just what I pray for but thinking about being the answer to someone else's elephant prayer. Oh my gosh, it is so good. If you got one, you have to read it. Number three, Walta in North Carolina, when you called a few months ago with your younger son on the phone it just stopped me in my tracks. I just dropped everything I was doing. I was so excited and so happy and so crazy. If I ran into you at the grocery store I wouldn’t even know you. You wouldn’t even know me and that is not even impossible because I have a daughter living in Morrisville, NC that I visit. But your joy brings me joy because I pray for you. I am still praying for you, Walta. I'm praying for your older son and reconciliation with your husband and your whole family to be together. Amen, amen! Number four and lastly, I watched the Vimeo Global Bible Read on the first chapter of John and it made me so happy. It is just an instant pick me up. Thank you so much, Brian. Thank you, DAB. Blessings to you all. This is Shelly in Oklahoma. Bye-bye.
