Job 20:1-22:30 ~ 2 Corinthians 1:1-11 ~ Psalm 40:11-17 ~ Proverbs 22:2-4
Today is the 26th of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and I’m pleased and honored that we can be here together to gather again around our global campfire, each of us kind of coming in and the warmth of the scripture washing over us. So good to be here with you today. We’re spending our week reading from the New Living Translation and we are working our way through the book of Job. So today we’ll read Job 20:1 – 22:30.

Introduction of a New Book

Okay, today we begin 2 Corinthians, Paul’s second epistle or letter to the Corinthian church, which is actually probably the third epistle to the Corinthian church. The very first one is referred to in 1 Corinthians. So this letter that we are about to read was probably written on Paul’s third missionary journey, and probably from Macedonia, and probably around 57 A.D. or the Spring of 58 A.D. Paul met up with Titus during his travels and so was able to get some feedback on the Corinthian church because Titus had just come from there. So Paul was able to hear of the impact of his first letter and it prompted him to write the second.

So the church of Corinth was in a city that was very sensual. It was a melting pot of ideas as urban centers can be. And it was rebellious in a lot of ways. And this found its way culturally into the church and there was a lot of division and a small group of people were really grabbing power and politicking for authority, even to the point of questioning Paul’s apostleship, his authority over the church, his rules, and in many ways the Gospel itself. So that’s the context in which Paul writes this letter.

There’s some division on whether 2 Corinthians is a complete letter or whether it’s the combination of possibly two letters because the tone so drastically changes between the first part of the book and the second. Either way, the issues that Paul is dealing with bounce their way all across history and land themselves squarely in our face and in our lap. Different time period, there’s different cultural clothes on, but the issues of the heart that Paul’s talking about definitely remain the same. So as we go through this second letter to the Corinthians, may we allow the Holy Spirit to be the mirror that exposes the things in our lives that we need to look at very closely and to encourage us to go deeper in our walk in the intimacy with Jesus on a daily basis. So we begin, 2 Corinthians 2:1-11.

Prayer

Father, we thank you for your Word. We thank you for its counsel, for its comforts, for its kindness, for its rebuke, for its discipline, for all that it represents in our lives. It is our compass. It leads us to your heart. It leads us to you. And we thank you for your kindness in granting us this gift of the scriptures. And we thank you for your mercy in our lives that we can be in an actual friendship, relationship with you. And so we invite you fully into this day. Everything that we are, every conversation that we will have, every experience that we will walk through, every encounter that we will walk through, we invite you into that. Every decision that we will make today, big and small, we invite you into that. All that we are, we want to be saturated with all that you are. Come Holy Spirit, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is Becky in Orlando. Hey guys, I have the best prayer report ever. I’m so excited to share this with you. I’ve had to pray for my Aunt Barbara in Massachusetts before, in the Boston area; and I am so excited because guess who is going to be listening to the Daily Audio Bible family community in the Daily Audio Bible in her car? My Aunt Barbara in Boston. So with that said, I welcome you to the community and I am so excited that I prayed for you just to feel God’s love coming to you from Brian reading and also from the Daily Audio Bible family. I know that you’re going through a lot of hard times right now and I pray for, you know, God just to lift you up. And I’m praying for you to feel the love from this community. So I love you a lot and I love all of the Daily Audio Bible family. And I thank all of you for praying for me. I still haven’t gotten a sale yet for this month, but I know that just having my Aunt Barbara (my blood) coming to listen to the Daily Audio Bible, for me that is more rewarding and that is even a better than any gift a sale could ever be. So I thank all of you for praying and I love all of you and I will keep on listening and praying for all of you. Alright, have a great day guys. I love you lots and have a great day. Bye!

Hello DAB friends and family. I got a prayer request for a close friend and also for my church. But, I want to start with my friend, her name is Belinda. I think it was a year ago (a year and maybe a few months) that her husband went into a coma. He had a brain condition and went into a coma and at that time they said he wasn’t going to make it at all, but he made it through. And he got sent to another hospital and they said he wasn’t going to make it through, and he made it through. People continue to say that he’s not going to make it, and he continues to make it through and he is continuing to do different things. There was a point at where people didn’t know exactly what to pray for, but the prayer that we need is for him to come out of the coma, because Belinda is right now taking sole care. Now he’s at home. The insurance issue sent him to be taken care of at home. For now he’s at home being taken care of solely by Belinda now. There’s nurses that come in. But what we’re praying for family is for a total recovery. We know that God can do it, amen! God is able. We need, I need prayer warriors to stand up in the gap right now, just begin to pray. And if you’ve been through a situation like this, I need you to especially pray. Her name is Belinda H. and his name is Scott. Right now he’s still in a coma and we need him out of that coma. And I want you to pray for my church. My pastor gave a plug for Daily Audio Bible that other people at our church should listen. It’s so edifying and so great this Bible family of ours, this Daily Audio Bible family of ours, that we have this tool. And just pray for our church that we have unity, that we have power of the Holy Spirit to just continue to just fill us and help us. Thank you Jill and Brian for this ministry. We love you and we thank you family.

Hello Daily Audio Bible, I am Lee. Today is August 23rd at 7:42 a.m. I’ve been praying for the last couple of days, listening to the prayer requests as they come in. And I’m praying that the answers are on the way. But I was impressed by the Lord to pray for to those that are depressed, broken and hurting. You know who you are and God wants to bring restoration and healing grace. Be encouraged through the Lord Jesus Christ and let his love flow out upon your life, upon your families, and heal that brokenness that is deep within you, deep inside you. Lord Jesus, give us your strength and in our weakness, you’re strong.

Yes my name is Valerie A. and I’m calling to ask to have myself, my husband Bobby, and my granddaughters, my daughter, and also my cousin Shirley R. She’s real sick, she has breast cancer and it’s spreading. And I need you to say a special prayer for her and a very dear friend of mine too. Her name is Mekida Y. And remember my grandchildren in your prayers too. I have 16 of them and I have 10 great grandbabies. Some of them are sick. Some of them aint. Please remember them, too, in the requests. Thank you.

Hey Daily Audio Bible family, this is Theo. I was calling because I need prayer for our family. I know many of you know and I’ve said this before on the prayer line that I’m divorced because of my own infidelity years ago. And my family, my extended family and one of my sisters just can’t forgive me and until this day, one of my sisters won’t allow me and my youngest daughter (who is with the girl that I’m with now) at any family functions. And for years, I used to leave them at home and just go to the functions by myself and hope that if I would just kind of appeased them that they would just come around. But it’s been over 5 years now and they never came around. You know, it was too hurtful to leave part of my family at home and more than anything I wish it was the way it was when I was a young kid. Everybody happy and everybody together and everybody getting along. I wish it back to be the way it was for my kid because I have great family – my parents, my sister and everybody are great; but there’s a lot of hurt and there needs to be a lot of healing. Please pray for us.

Hi, my name is Marvin B. I’m calling in about my wife, Cynthia B. Two years ago, she had her leg amputated and she just is struggling and trying to get her prosthesis done where she can walk again. And it’s been a true battle. Every time she gets her prosthesis and she gets up and starts trying to walk, something happens and now she’s having blisters on her stump. And so, she has lupus also. Coming to her doctor, we took her to a skin doctor because he didn’t’ know what they were. And we’re thinking its open sores, but the doctor took a biopsy. What I’m asking the DAB family for is just prayer for my wife because it really, really, really has her upset. So I’m just asking for prayer. Love everyone and I pray for everyone. I’m a truck driver. My name is Marvin. Her name is Cynthia. And I drive from all over anywhere from Las Vegas to San Diego to San Francisco and Oakland and over in Arizona and I have plenty of time to pray. Every time I hear a prayer request, I’m praying for you. I want everyone to know that I’ve been praying for you. Praying for Blind Tony and his grandson and his sister. Also I just heard Policeman Joe, your request and you’re thinking about changing your name to ‘Protector.’ I think that’s a great name for you. Everyone, I love you very much. I just ask you for your prayers for my wife.

Hello Daily Audio Bible. This is Mr. S from Las Vegas. Last time I called was back in probably April, if I’m not mistaken shortly after my wife and I had separated and then had filed for divorce and we’re going through custody battles for our 2-year-old daughter, Paisley. On August 2nd, my ex-wife, Jenny, had passed in a car accident and, needless to say, it certainly has taken its toll on the entire family; but our Paisley has been such a wonderful source of strength and she being 2 years old, you know, she just keeps everybody else going. And about only maybe a week after hearing the news, I brought myself on my knees in front of God and just asked for strength and he has certainly been able to provide and give me that. So right now, I’m just asking, calling and I’m asking for just prayers and continued prayers that we can all be strong for my daughter. I pray that I’m able to do the right things for her. I’m having to file for full custody so that way my mother-in-law may not have…
