"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world."
2 Corinthians 10:4

The other night I had a little daydream going...about a story I made up between the Duke of Endor and Prince Elohim. In my imagination, tension had been building between them for weeks--and finally came to a head in the castle banqueting hall.

There was a shout, a shoving of chairs. Ladies screamed and huddled against the walls as Prince Elohim drew his jewel-encrusted sword, the weapon given him by his father, the King. Saber in hand, the Duke circled him, waiting to catch the Prince off his guard. Suddenly, the Duke lunged, and steel met steel. A stab...a wound...blood! Prince Elohim had been struck in the fray, his magnificent sword knocked from his hand. But wait! With deerlike speed, the prince leaped beyond the sweep of his enemy's blade, grabbing a heavy brass candlestick holder on the table. Armed with a frightfully inferior weapon, he sprang again into battle, diverting the lunges and stabs. Swinging his crude weapon, he connected with his opponent, crushing the adversary's skull.

Okay, maybe the way I tell it is a tad melodramatic. But the real thing is much more dramatic than this! The Bible tells the story of how the good Ruler sent his only Son to invade Satan's territory in order to free the captives and retake the kingdom under the family banner. But what is most poignant is that the Son defeated the enemy using "inferior" tactics--servanthood and death on a Roman cross. It is this which proves Him mightier still.

In the battle against Satan, are you and I a jeweled sword in the Prince's hand? Hardly. We're more like a clunky candlestick--a most unlikely weapon. It's the One who wields us that makes all the difference. And when we overcome despite the odds, the King gains twice the glory!

Lord, at times I feel so inadequate for the task, so weak in the battle. But in Your strong and skillful grip, I will overcome against all odds.
