Isaiah 43:14-45:10 ~ Ephesians 3:1-21 ~ Psalm 68:1-18 ~ Proverbs 24:1-2
Today is September 24th. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is my pleasure and a profound honor to be here with you today, taking another step forward through this week, but taking another step forward through the scriptures this year. So we’re reading from the New International Version and we’ll jump right into the book of Isaiah today.

Commentary

I love the passage that we read today in the book of Isaiah. I love the book of Isaiah, but this particular passage that we read today is almost, for me, like God saying here is what Reframe looks like. It is like he was saying this thousands of years ago. There is this long description of how dense people are who are looking to other things to worship and to find life. It describes a guy making a metal idol. He describes it at length. The woodworker finding a choice tree and cutting it in down, cutting it in half, building a fire with one half of it, making his food, sitting there eating it, getting warmth from it and looking at the other half of the tree and thinking, ‘you know what I should do? I should make my god out of this other half of this tree.’ And so he does and stands it up and starts worshiping it.

Laid out that way, it is like this is just how foolish that can look. Pulling it in this kind of context we can see it clearly. But what are we going to to find life and security, that we then extend our hearts in worship to? Maybe this carpenter who works with his hands and makes fire and cooks his food thinks that the wood that he works with brings security since he knows how to work with it and the tree is his god because it offers him the security for his trade and his life. So how about that savings account? Or for that matter, the lack of a savings account, the one that is not there that you wish was there so it could bring you security in life and we could extend our hearts and worship to that. Or our skill set or our gifting or whatever toy it is that we’re saving so that we might have life, what are we fashioning and then extending our heart in worship toward that is not going to work because it is not alive and it cannot rescue us?

May we listen again to the voice of God coming straight from the scriptures and his response to that: Remember these things, for you are my servant. I have made you. You are my servant. I will not forget you. I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.

Prayer

Yes, God. Yes! Yes, you have redeemed us and you are the only hope. There is no other redeemer. We can’t fashion a false god and worship it and think that it is going to save us. It has always been you. It has only been you. So we invite your Holy Spirit into this, into all that this brings up. We invite you to show us and expose in us the things that we are turning to for life and then giving our heart to in worship, the things that we are trying to craft into false gods that can’t hear us, that can’t save us, that cannot rescue us. There has only ever been you. You have loved us well. You have been relentless in your pursuit of our hearts, so our hearts are yours completely. Come Holy Spirit, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Announcements

Www.DailyAudioBible.com is the website. It is home base. It is where you find out what’s going on around here. And like I say every day, there is always something going on around here. So let's see. Have you ever heard of Periscope? Yeah? Some of you? Not everyone? Periscope is this app that allows you to broadcast in the moment and it is pretty cool. I mean this isn’t like a new technology or a new idea. When we were on the Family Gathering Tour a couple of years ago we were broadcasting live from every city we went to and it was a big production, a lot of work, an unbelievable amount of stuff to carry around, so we were kind of doing that stuff. But this is like instant, in the moment, and we thought, hey, we should be there. So Daily Audio Bible is on Periscope. What we’re planning to do in a couple of weeks is start periscoping especially around Reframe. We’re going to kind of have (I'm kind of letting the cat out of the bag a little bit early, but we’ll talk about it more), now that the book is shipping and you're getting it and reading it, were going to have a little group study around it, just kind of go through it where I can get on the Periscope and tell some thoughts about each of the chapters as we go through and then jump over onto a Facebook group and we can continue the conversation maybe once a week for a few weeks.

So if you don’t have the Periscope app, go get it. If you're using an Apple device, just search in the iTunes store for Periscope. Or if you're an Android user (I'm not one of those, but I don’t hold it against anyone), go to your app store, get Periscope and follow Daily Audio Bible. Just search for Daily Audio Bible and follow Daily Audio Bible and then when we go live you’ll be alerted. We did this little test just to see. We signed up for it a week ago and so we were sitting here in the office just talking about it and we’re like ‘let's see how this works.’ We thought it was just like a little test, nobody would be there, so I popped Periscope on and there were 50 people there within the first minute and we’re all like having this brief conversation. It was enlightening. So I'm telling you about it now right here on the Daily Audio Bible saying hey, jump on, get your app. We’re going to do some live things where we can interact together and looking forward to that in the future.

Okay, let's see, on the calendar just a couple days from now, on the 27th I’ll be speaking in Fort Smith, AR at First Presbyterian Church. If you are in that area, I’d love, of course, as always, to meet you. That is kind of why I go out and travel, to be out among this community, this beautiful thing that we have with each other and the rhythm of the scriptures. Their website is www.1pres.org and you can get more information there.

I’ll be speaking October 1st at the Story Conference here in Nashville.

And then October 1st is the official date for Reframe being everywhere, so we’ll be out on the Reframe Tour the 11th of October, right here in my own neck of the woods, so I’d love to see you, Nashville. I know there are tons of you out there. I would love to see you, Nashville. Come down and participate in our first official Reframe date – the 11th of October. This will take place at SouthView Church in Spring Hill, TN. Their website is www.SouthView.cc and I will very much look forward to seeing you there.

Speaking of Reframe, as the month winds down we’ll no longer be able to give away the stuff we’re giving away for Reframe like we’re doing now, giving away the unabridged version of the audiobook for Passages, which was my first book, as well as a $10 voucher for your purchase of the new Promised Land – Essential Pilgrim's Edition. So double the value basically for you getting Reframe and trying to get this message to as many people as possible. I burn with this message. It feels so deeply important to me because it rescued me and I believe God gave me the words and gave me the ability and the platform to present this. I’ve been praying for you, you who are reading it, for two years. So grab a copy. Go to www.ReframeBook.com and get your free goodies. I appreciate your support on that.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at www.DailyAudioBible.com. There is a link. It is on the home page, upper right-hand corner and I thank you for your partnership, beyond words. If you prefer, the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996, Spring Hill, TN 37174.

And, as always, if you have a prayer request or comment, (877) 942-4253 is the number to call.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian. I do love you and I will be waiting for you here, tomorrow.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Good morning DAB family. This is Walta calling from Charlotte, NC. Indeed I'm a burning bush that will not be consumed, all for the glory of our Lord God and King. Today is Sunday, September 20th. I just listened to Brian and first of all I want to say thumbs up to Jill. Jill, it is always awesome to hear your voice and little Zekey. We love you guys so much. Today Brian talked about fruit of the Spirit and when he said fruit, for the first time in my entire Christian life my mind went all the way back to Genesis where Adam and Eve were given an entire garden to consume of and just one tree not to touch and that tree had fruit on it. He started to go through…I listened to Brian talking about the fruit of the flesh, basically debauchery, we all know it, lust and envy and all those things. And for the first time in my life I just realized it. He said you have all these other fruit to consume of, the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, kindness, longsuffering, etc., etc.. I just wanted to put that out there today. It is like God has given all this fruit to consume of and we always think bad of Adam and Eve but we’re doing the same thing. The only thing he told us not to consume of is what we’re so __________. I pray for us to live in obedience to God. I __________ tomorrow your talk that you're going through and just all your ministry, I pray that God will protect you, guide you, give you wisdom, give you strength. I just pray for extra strength __________ of protection over your family, in Jesus’ name. I love you all.

Hello Daily Audio Bible community. My name is Ian. I'm calling from England in the UK there. I started listening to the Daily Audio Bible on Saturday, so this is my third day of listening. I would just like to say what a wonderful community this is. I would like to thank the community for all the support you’ve given me with my recent prayer request and also welcoming me to the community. I don’t always have a chance to listen to the Bible or read the Bible every day, so having the Daily Audio Bible has gotten me into a routine of first thing in the morning when I wake up I start listening to the Bible and listening to the Word of God and I'm feeling a lot less anxiety after only three days. It means the world to me to have this community and to have this method of listening to the Bible. I'm not very good when it comes to listening to the Bible and this has given me that push to do so. Also as a visually impaired person, it makes my life easy to have the Bible in audio. I do have a selection of audio Bibles but having this to listen to and knowing that there is a whole community that listens to it as well means a lot to me. I would like to thank everyone for your response to my prayer request the other day on my first day of joining the community. I look forward to being a member of the community for a long time to come and getting to know you all better. I am on Facebook and Twitter, so if anybody wants to search me, please search for Ian M. and you can find me that way. I look forward to getting to know you all in the near future. Thanks very much for this great, great community and this great way of sharing the Bible. Thank you very much. God bless you all. Bye now.

Hello DAB family. This is Chante calling from Detroit and I'm calling today because I'm just completely overwhelmed and just exhausted physically and emotionally and I need your prayers really bad. Basically we are behind on so many of our bills and I just need you all to please pray for provision to pay all of our bills. We are past due about $1200 in our gas and electric bill. We have a shut off notice on our water bill. The registration on our truck is expired and we need also insurance on the truck so that we can get the truck registered and everything. And then the kids need fall and winter clothes and shoes and then I have a $3000 tax bill that they are threatening to garnish me on. Then we also need $1500 to have our engine rebuilt on our second vehicle so that my husband can find work and help in paying off these bills. So I need your prayers for provision for all of those things. My husband was considering becoming a truck driver and then he started thinking about how it would be to drive in the winter. We have really bad winters in Michigan and so he is saying now that he doesn’t want to do that, but he doesn’t know what else to do. All I know is we definitely need a second income because we are really struggling right now. So yes, I need your prayers for wisdom, for provision, for direction for us on how to climb out of this. It just seems we just keep sliding back down further.

Hi family. This is Pastor Gene from Bradenton, FL. Guys, I am so happy to report that yesterday John and I had the opportunity to visit with a gentleman that he led to the Lord during his stay at the hospital. As you guys know, the last few months have been months of unprecedented attacks against us as a family and our ministry. We stood our ground, but it was very hard and we would have probably caved in under fire if it had not been for your intercession. The several periods of attacks ended up with my husband being very sick for over two and a half months and then ended up in the hospital where he stayed three weeks. It was very hard on our family and personally I didn’t think I could handle too much more, but the ministry continued to the best of our ability and during his stay in the hospital, he met this gentleman who was an agnostic/atheist for most of his life. One day when I went to visit him at the hospital, I found him in the middle of his weakness sharing his faith with this gentleman. To make a long story short, Chris accepted Jesus as his Savior and we had an opportunity to minister to him and other patients prior to John's departure. He called us this weekend, asked us to come to his house and share the gospel again with him and his adult daughter. We did that. They are very hungry. They are very thirsty for the Word, want to continue learning about the Lord and when we prayed and sang together and shared the Word, the presence of the Lord was there among us, no doubt about it. So I want to glorify God for using us in the middle of our weaknesses to reach out to others and bring them to the saving knowledge of Christ. Please rejoice with me. And I would also like to pray. Father, I pray for my sister Michelle from the UK. I pray that you will heal what has been hurt in her life and in her son and that you will provide a new church for them.

Hi family. It's Drew from the Bay Area. Listen, I’ve got an interview in about 25 minutes. I know this won't air, but I ask you to pray with me. I actually wanted to say I’ve been praying for Pastor Gene and I was so excited to hear that God came through, I knew he would, with the income that she needed to replace what John was bringing in. That is so awesome. Please pray for me because I'm taking care of young Drew and I'm actually in need of getting employment very soon or we’re going to be in dire trouble. I'm completely dependent on God right now. I need your prayers. So Heavenly Father, I just ask that your will would be done. Lord, that you would take away the fear that I have and the fear that others have that don’t have employment right now. And Lord, that you would come down and be glorified because we know that you do all things. Lord, please help our unbelief. Strengthen us in our walk. In Jesus’ name I pray. Thank you. Please say ‘amen’ out loud.

Hi, my name is Jolene. I'm from Richfield, WA, and I'm just calling to tell you that it is the first time I'm calling and wanted to tell everybody that I am so in love with this community. I had started it last fall, so almost a year. I wanted to let everybody know that I'm praying for them as the requests come in. And I would also like to thank all the staff for having this wonderful opportunity to hear the Bible. It has just been a great blessing. I'm calling for a prayer request. I am a single mom of four children with two left at home and the home that I'm renting has sold, so I have to be out. They gave me 20 days to move and I have no place to go. So if you could please pray that I’ll find a place. I have to move this Saturday and from there I have no idea where I'm going. I need to have faith in God. Also that none of my children are following the Lord, so if you could lift them up in prayer and that God will be shown in my life and that he would be seen in a miraculous way in this situation because my one daughter is really doubting. She feels that God has abandoned me. I quite frankly feel a little bit like that, too. I have a 12-year-old that is really acting out and she is probably scared, but if you could just keep us in prayer that God will provide a home and a home soon that I can afford. Again, I want to reach out and tell you that I pray for you and I love you all. Thank you very much.
