Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. Today is October 6th. I’m Brian. It's good to be here with you. Actually it's even great to be here with you, that we can be here together with each other, coming in out of whatever we’re doing and just check out, literally, and by checking out of everything, obligation and responsibility and all of the frenzy of life, we are also checking in, checking in with each other and checking into our heart, our spirit, orienting ourselves to God through his Word. So it is great to be here with you today. We’re reading from the Holman Christian Standard Bible this week and we dive back into the book of Jeremiah.
Commentary
Jeremiah references a couple of actual places today. One, God is speaking about Shiloh. Shiloh is probably the name of a place we’ve heard of before, but not a lot of people register with the fact that it was the capital, it was the spiritual hub, it was the center of the promised land when the children of Israel came across the Jordan and began to conquer the promised land. This was THE place for over three and a half centuries, 360+ years. That's a long time. This was the place where the tabernacle was. Where people came to worship the Lord before the temple was made, before Jerusalem had been captured, before David had made it the City of David and Solomon had built a temple there.
So Shiloh was this place that as the people fell away, so did Shiloh, but the ruins of ancient Shiloh exist until this very day. We’ve visited there several times. You can see where the tabernacle was for all of those years. It is fascinating to be there. We’ve filmed that. That is in the Promised Land DVDs that we released about a month ago. It's amazing.
Another place that he references today is the Valley of Hinnom which is a valley running adjacent to Mount Zion in Jerusalem. He talks about this high place of Topheth where people were sacrificing their children. All of sudden some things click into place. We would have an outrage over something like that. It would be absolutely outrageous—national, global news if a people started sacrificing their children. Like we were talking about yesterday, the heart of God through these prophecies that are pretty forceful things, we spoke about it as God's people departing God like a spouse cheating, but now we’re even getting more into what is going on in the culture and we would be outraged, so we can’t blame God for being outraged. People, his chosen people are sacrificing their children in the Valley of Hinnom to idols. That's outrageous and we can see pretty easily why.
The Valley of Hinnom exists today and you’d never know the horrible things that happened there. It's like a park. It's nice green grass. There are some ancient ruins down there, but you’d never know the atrocities. And you’d never know what it became later. So during the first century, during Christ's time, it was the Valley of Hinnom, also known as Gehinnom, Gehenna, it was the dump, it was the trash dump where trash and refuse and garbage and the bodies of criminals where thrown. There was always the burning of the refuse, fire always happening there. And Jesus references Gehenna, the place where Judas would have gone to hang himself after betraying Christ. This place is still there, also a place that we’ve gone and filmed in to bring back the visual of it. It is contained in the new Promised Land as well. These places are real places that Jeremiah is talking about and real events happened in those places that charted the course of some of the destiny of these people that we read of in the scriptures just like there are real places in our own lives that have charted the course of our lives. As we look into those places and times, we begin to understand what it is we’re dealing with here, what it is we’re reading and how it works in our own lives, how it applies. Those people were looking for the same things we are and we are all looking for God and how we relate to him. But we keep on manufacturing ways that we’re supposed to relate to him and keep creating a construct of how that looks, when it has been in front of us all along. He is here. He is with us. And he wants us to be with him. So may we continue to wake up and enter into that first person relationship with God that he is desiring and offering.
Prayer
Father, we come once again into your presence thanking you for your Word. It is constantly pulling us back. It is constantly like a staff reaching out to a wayward sheep and pulling us back inline. It is constantly reorienting us because we are like sheep and we just go astray. We drift. We just do. But you have lovingly comforted us and guided us through your Word and given us the gift of your Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth and offered your very presence in first person relationship with us. We accept these things and need these things and desire these things, long for them at the deepest core of our identity. So we once again reorient ourselves to you. We invite you into this day as you have invited us the live this day by the gift of the breath of life within us. So come Holy Spirit into everything about today. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports
Hi family. This is Sarah calling from Charlotte, NC. I just want to ask for prayer for my sister Candace who is a little over halfway through her pregnancy with her first child and she has bipolar disorder and it has gotten a lot worse with the pregnancy and she has been in and out of the hospital a couple times and having lots of suicidal thoughts, just feeling really tired and weepy and feeling like she can’t get through this. I'm just asking you guys to please lift her up in prayer because I love her so much and when Brian says you don’t have to go through everything alone, I know you guys will pray for her, too. Thank you so much. It means the world to me and I know that God is going to do something through this just as he did for me. I'm the one that had the miracle pregnancy and gave birth to Lilly Grace. I just ask you to please lift up Candace and Mark and their unborn child Trevor Nathan. Thank you so much. I love you guys.
Hello DAB family. This is Chante calling from Detroit and I want to thank you all for your prayers, but I'm calling in today because I feel as though my mind is really frazzled and that I may be experiencing burnout and I was hoping never to get back to this place. So I keep meditating on the verse in Matthew 11:28—come to me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened and I will call you to rest. I still feel real frazzled. I keep going over that verse. I'm not going to give up, but I need your prayers because there is a part of me that just keeps thinking there is so much to be done, I need to get to doing it, but physically and mentally I can’t move right now. I'm just so exhausted. There is fear that is trying to creep in. I'm holding that back as best I can, but back in 2009 I was admitted to a psych ward because of something similar. I basically couldn’t sleep for five days and on that fifth day I just wandered around Chicago. At that time we were living in Chicago. And anyway, I was taking buses and L trains and just wandering around the city. Then I came back to our condo and just freaked out and my husband called an ambulance and they took me to a psych ward and I spent a week or two in there. My mind was just so frazzled during that time. Even a month afterward they wouldn’t let me go back to work for a month and my mind was just completely just out of it. Anyway, my husband said if that ever happened again, that he would leave me. I really don’t think he means that, but he has a weird way of expressing himself sometimes. But I just need your prayers because I want to rest, but I don’t really know how to rest. It just seems like if I do rest, that nothing will get done. I don’t know. I just need your prayers. Thank you all so much. I love you and thank you.
Hey, this is Saved by Grace, also known as Alleah, Loxahatchee. Family, I desperately need your prayers. There have been some tensions that have been growing between my brother Alex and my mom. Now I think it has reached its breaking point. My brother has angrily broken a few of my mother's CDs and my mom has probably angrily, too, called the police and now he is out of the apartment. __________ I'm worried to death about both of them and their relationship and I pray and ask you guys to pray with me to ask God to sow peace into their hearts and restore order into our house. And I pray that you will comfort my sister, O God. Father, Lord, I pray that you would give her wisdom to know what to do in this situation, O God, and it will work, in Jesus’ name. Brother who called in, the daughter of his coworker, I'm praying for Lauren. Father, Lord, I pray that you will raise Lauren up from that coma, in the name of Jesus. Heal her, O God, even while she is in a coma. When she wakes up, O God, let her be fully healed, in the name of Jesus. Drew from the Bay Area, I'm still praying for provision of that job. Our Lord who is your provider has never failed you so you need to remember that. And he will not do so now. He will provide for you and I release that job into your hands, in Jesus’ name. I pray that God would give you the courage you need to talk to your ex-wife and be faithful to God's leading. I'm praying also that your ex-wife will be receptive to your invitation and God would give you the wisdom to know what to say and how to respond, that God would help you to be humble and trust him through the process. Patience isn’t just waiting. It is having serenity while you wait. Be anxious over nothing, for sin is crouching at the gate. Some of the people that you gave to me are reluctant to believe. You said that you would show them, God, but I'm still waiting to receive. There are reasons for their unbelief. There are reasons for their doubt. I know that they don’t believe in me. There is much I'm concerned about. Don’t you know you're still at war, my son, against an enemy you can’t see? He attacks your mind. He attacks your thoughts. He hates that you are free. And your weapons are not carnal, but they are mighty in my power for bringing down strongholds, abominations, and demons that devour. Dominions, principalities, master them in my image. Everything you need is right there in your lineage. Your father is strong. Your spirit is strong. I know what you can bear. If you feel you need some extra strength, just fast and stay in prayer. Through prayer and supplication, make your want list known to me and don’t forget thanksgiving, for it all belongs to me. My time is not your time. Stay focused on yourself. I am that I am, my son, and one day you’ll have wealth. The whole world and everything else is mine. I give that promise to you. You said that you believe in me. Do you doubt my words are true? No, God, I would never do that. Please help my unbelief. Give me strength to persevere. Provide for my relief. You have my spirit and my Word, these two are quite enough. Stand fast and just have faith, my son, especially when it is tough. Be anxious over nothing. My peace I give to thee. Let not your heart be troubled, for you have all in me. Hi, good evening Daily Audio Bible friends and family. My name is Matt. I'm calling from a county called Cornwall that is located in the far southwest corner of the UK. I'm calling really on two points. First of all, I really need your prayers to go up and I'm seeking God to really find a new job. I have a job. I have a great job. I work in a primary school with fantastic colleagues and some amazing children. Unfortunately, the job really is a very low paid job. It's not a teacher. It's what we call a teaching assistant. This served well whilst I was studying. I had to retrain later in life and I’ve retrained and I’ve studied and I’ve got a first-class honors degree as a result and I now need to move on, but I'm really finding it hard to get a worthwhile job that pays a wage that myself and my family can afford to live on. And then this is linked to my second request. Given our location in the country, we are a very popular tourist area here and unfortunately the flat or the apartment as you call it that we live in, we rent the space, the owners have decided to rent it out as a holiday accommodation for tourists in the summer, so we have to move out by Easter 2016, which is quite a ways away, but we have to really save some money to be able to afford to get another place.
