Jeremiah 49:23-50:46 ~ Titus 1:1-16 ~ Psalm 97:1-98:9 ~ Proverbs 26:13-16

Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. Today is October 26th. I’m Brian and it is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you today. Wonderful, wonderful time in the Tri-Cities of Washington yesterday, and today I come to you from a good amount of distance from there, from Bellingham, WA today where I’ll be spending the day with our friends at Faithlife, the publishers of the Logos software. You who are seminarians or pastors or astute biblical study people, you definitely know Logos. They are really good friends of ours. I’ll be spending the day sharing some of Reframe and its concepts and messages and just spending some time. We are on the same path – biblical literacy, biblical immersion, interaction with the Bible as something that is vital and alive and changes things, and so I'm looking forward to being with some folks that are certainly like-minded today. But before all of that can even happen, we’ve come to center ourselves in the scriptures, which is exactly what we will do. We’re reading from the Names of God Bible this week and still working our way through Jeremiah. When we get to the New Testament, we will move into another of Paul's letters – Titus, but first, Jeremiah.

Introduction of a New Book

Yesterday we finished 2 Timothy, Paul's final writing, in all of its bittersweetness, which brings us to the letter to Titus which is the third of what is commonly known as the pastoral letters and those are 1 and 2 Timothy and then Titus. They are called this because Paul is writing to his sons in the faith directly. These are personal letters rather than to a church. He is speaking into their personal needs and giving them personal direct instruction as pastors. So he is writing as a pastoral figure to his sons in the faith who are now pastors.

Titus was an early convert to Christ by the apostle Paul and he knew Paul well. He was able to accompany Barnabas and Paul to Jerusalem to the Jerusalem Council, if you remember from the book of Acts, where circumcision for the Gentiles was discussed among the Jerusalem church including some of the original disciples of Jesus. So Titus has a pedigree. He got to see a lot of the stuff that happened to form the early church. Titus was definitely on Paul's third missionary journey and Paul often sent Titus as a messenger to the different churches to offer pastoral care and to send and bring messages back and forth between Paul and the churches so that Paul would know how things were going.

This letter we’re about to read, Titus, was written around AD 63, right around the same time Paul wrote the first letter to Timothy. So Paul is writing to his son in the faith Timothy and then he writes to his son in the faith Titus around the same time. Then the letter was sent to Crete where Titus was the pastor of the churches there.

The primary mission of this letter was to encourage Titus to finish the work that he started and also, in writing, to bestow apostolic authority to Titus from Paul so that Titus would have this letter, this badge, this proof if anyone questioned his spiritual authority. It also set down in writing the things that Paul had instructed Titus to do as the churches were being built up.

This is an intimate letter and an intimate look at the instructions given from the spiritual father, the apostle Paul, to his spiritual son Titus who had been raised up in the faith into leadership. These letters are helpful, these pastoral letters, for anyone in authority or leadership even today. So we begin Titus.

Prayer

Father, we thank you for your Word in all of its many complexions and all of its many contrasts and all of the layers of life that it speaks to in our own experience. We thank you for these pastoral letters from the apostle Paul. We thank you for these books of prophecy and history as we look back at the choices that people have made and where those roads have led. It illuminates our path ahead. It shows us where our choices may be leading us and gives us the opportunity to choose wisely. We thank you for your Holy Spirit, the Comforter that you have sent among us to continue to lead us into all truth, to illuminate your Word that is the lamp for our feet and a light to our path. So we ask that you illuminate the way forward, the way ahead today. What is it that you are doing today? What is it that we can share with you today? How is it that we can experience life with you today? This is our desire. So come Holy Spirit, we pray and ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Announcements

Www.DailyAudioBible.com is the website, it is home base, of course, and it is where you find out what is going on around here. So, for me, I had a wonderful, wonderful time in Richland, WA yesterday at Columbia Community Church. Thank you to those of you who came and those of you who even made the effort to come from a distance. That is so humbling. I don’t know what to say besides thank you. Thank you for being there. It was an honor to spend some time with you.

It was a long-ish…no, not ‘ish,’ long. It was a good drive back to the coast and north, up near Canada to Bellingham, WA where I will be spending the day today with our friends from Faithlife who publish the Logos software. We’ll be spending the day together and doing some things that are exciting and then I will be able to fly home tomorrow. So thank you for your prayers over all that is going on and over the travel and all that it takes to stay out on the road.

Looking forward in this week, this Thursday the 29th, so a few days from now is our final Periscope about Reframe. We’ve done this large small group and it has been a lot of fun. We have had a lot of participants. We used Periscope so I could get on and talk through some chapters and then we jump over into the Facebook Group. If you haven’t gone to the Facebook Group yet, you need to. It is www.Facebook.com/Groups/ReframeBook. Unbelievably cool discussion about Reframe happens there. So we’ve been doing this for the last three weeks and we will conclude the book this Thursday and then jump into our Facebook Group and continue the conversation, like we’ve done every week so far. So I'm looking forward to that.

Then looking ahead to next Sunday, which is November 1st, which is the Daylight Savings Time day around Tennessee, I think around everywhere, but in Tennessee it is a day I don’t look forward to because all of a sudden it is dark at 4:30 in the afternoon it feels like. Not quite that bad, but it gets that way. Once we get a little bit further towards December it is like all winter long at 4:30 it is dark, which I'm not super…it's not my favorite. But anyway, what is my favorite is being able to share Reframe and be out among this community. November 1st has an upside and the upside is that we’ll be in Louisville, KY at New Song Christian Fellowship sharing Reframe. So if you are in that area, www.NewSongLouisville.org is their website where you can get their service times. I'm looking forward to being with you in Kentucky.

November 8th we’ll be in Chattanooga bringing Reframe there, so if you are in the area or Atlanta, that region, www.MissionChattanooga.org is the website.

And then we will round out the last of the six weeks in a row that we’ll be doing in 2015 around Reframe in the San Diego area, La Jolla Christian Fellowship. Their website is www.churchatLaJolla.org. If you are in the area, the San Diego area, we’d love to meet you and that will conclude the speaking schedule for 2015 and we’ll pick back up in January. So I'm looking forward to seeing you on the road.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at www.DailyAudioBible.com. There is a link on the home page in the upper right-hand corner. Thank you for being life-giving to the community here and supporting our vision and mission that we collectively share as we enter into this rhythm of the scriptures every day. If you prefer, the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996, Spring Hill, TN 37174.

All this month we’ve been offering the Reframe Films, so if you get seven Reframes from one of the retailers that are at www.ReframeBook.com and send your receipt, email your receipt to Reframe@DailyAudioBible.com, we’ll send you the Reframe Films’ DVD and then give you a link so you can download the films and make a group of your own by either giving it to the group that you're in or giving it to those that you love, just having a conversation about it. If you happen to get 10 or more, we’ll send you the DVD and the download, but we’ll also throw in an additional Reframe, a signed first edition Reframe. That will run through the end of this month which is the end of this week, so just a few more days on that.

If you have a prayer request or comment, (877) 942-4253 is the number to dial.

That’s it for today. I'm Brian. I love you. I’ll be waiting for you here, tomorrow.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Good morning DAB family. This is Paula calling from Albuquerque. Pray that you all are having a wonderful day. Been wanting to call in and just have been holding off, and then something happened here the last two days. We’ve had two tragic shootings. One was a 4-year-old girl in a road rage incident that was killed. The second one was a police officer that was shot. He is still in critical condition, I believe, this morning. So I just want to pray. Please join me. Father God, thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to share our prayers, to share our concerns, to share our praises and encouragement. Lord, I want to lift up police officers and peace officers everywhere. Lord, I know that they are under attack because of the times that we live in. Father God, you put them in positions to protect us and your Word tells us that we must obey the law. Please protect them as they lay their lives on the line every single day to protect us. Thank you for these two families specifically in Albuquerque specifically, but I ask that you give them encouragement, give them peace, give them a __________, and save these two young men that are repeat offenders. I also ask that you give the lawmakers the courage and the wisdom to change the laws so that these things don’t continue to happen, in Jesus’ name. I also ask if you all would please continue to pray for my friend Rebecca who is getting her port put in tomorrow. I would really appreciate that. Thank you all. I love you. You all have a blessed day.

Good morning DAB family. This is Paula, the child advocate from the Los Angeles area. I wanted to call with an update. I had asked for prayer for my niece Lauren who had a bleeding in her brain called an AVM. She lives in Pittsburgh and she was in the ICU for over a month. I want to let you know that your prayers have been answered, my prayers have been answered. Lauren is doing so much better. She did go home after being released from the ICU, into rehab for about a week, and now she is at home and physically she is doing just wonderfully. The challenge now is her mental capabilities because she kind of lives just in the moment. Her short term memory is very impaired and now she is getting rehab twice a week. Her mother from Los Angeles is there with her trying to get all the services that she can for her, so I ask you to please continue to pray for Lauren. Eventually she will also have surgery to correct this abnormality in her brain, so please continue to keep her in your prayers. Also a quick update about the foster child that I advocate for now who is 15 years old and pregnant and still AWAL. We don’t know where she is so please continue to keep Mel in your prayers. I love listening to the DAB. I listen to all your prayers and I pray along with all of you. Thank you all for calling in. Thank you Brian and Jill and I'm enjoying reading Reframe. God bless you all. Bye.

Hi family. I'm calling to ask for some prayer. My fiancé, he had a car accident yesterday and he was pulling over to the side of the road to kind of __________ this very skinny road, 2-lane highway, and was kind of pulling over because the other car was going somewhat fast. It was dark. It was in the morning and he was going to work. It is a windy road so he said he pulled over to the side of the road and I guess what happened was the car kind of went up on the embankment and it went on its side. So the whole car flipped over and the driver's side door was on the ground. He tried to crawl out of the other door that somebody could come by and help him. He did fall back into the car and he hurt his hand. I think he hurt his head, too. After that, he called me and he was very dazed, very dazed, but he always wants to help people, so he went ahead and went to work. He didn’t listen to me. He went to work, didn’t get checked out. He did get checked out today, went to the neurological doctor, and he told him that he doesn’t want him driving. He thinks that he blacked out. I just ask for your prayers, family. He's a good, good man. He's my fiancé and I love him very much. We’re getting married next June. He's a radiation oncologist. He helps people with cancer all the time. That's all he does is help people, so please, family, will you pray for him? Will you make sure that he is going to be okay? I pray for all of you.

Hi family. This is Pastor Gene. Good morning. Brian and Jill, I don’t know what to congratulate you for, either for becoming grandparents or for your private reading of the book of Song of Solomon. I guess I will just congratulate you for both and wish you the best. Let's pray. Father, I thank you for my sister Brittany who is working in China. Father, I pray that you will give her strength and victory during her last year in China and that you will strengthen her and that she will continue glorifying your name through her life and her work of love. Father, I bless Pelham and Molly and I pray that they will learn to practice your presence as they go about their regular business. Certainly the dynamics in our lives change when we move from single to married people. You say in your Word it is perfectly normal, so I pray that they will feel no condemnation, no pressure and just the desire to grow nearer to you together and individually. Bless them. Take any guilt away. I bless Caleb from Ohio, our new caller. I pray that you will bless him, that you will strengthen him and that you will continue to use him among this community. Father, I pray for my brother Dan from New England. I pray for his move. Father, I pray for his dad as he goes through this terrible illness. I pray for your hand of healing upon him and supernatural faith and strength for Dan and his family. Bless him as he relocates. Father, thank you for my sister Lydia and also Fearless. I thank you for her update on her kids. Thank you for the things that you're doing in their lives. Thank you for what you're doing in my sister's life. Bless her in a mighty way. Father, thank you for my sister Pamela. She is behind, just as I am, and I pray that she will stick to it and will be determined not to stop, just as I intend to. I pray for her husband and his career. I pray for blessings upon them.

Hello, this is Ann in Charlotte, NC. I had asked for prayer for my daughter's wedding on September 25th. I'm sorry I haven’t called sooner. I want to thank everyone who prayed. I felt so carried by the Holy Spirit before, during and after the wedding. It was a very happy and sad time for me. I'm glad I got to go. Since then it is kind of up and down and I very much struggle with feeling that my life has little meaning and purpose although we are involved in various ministries. It is just a daily struggle and spiritual battle at home that I know many of you have, to feel like your life means something and that you can make a difference for good in the world. I'm just waking up each morning crying out that the blood of Jesus is enough for all my sins and mistakes and my many, many shortcomings. Thank you. I'm so thankful for Daily Audio Bible. It has made a huge difference in my life and I pray for you, all of you. God bless you.
