Ezekiel 1:1-3:15 ~ Hebrews 3:1-19 ~ Psalm 104:1-23 ~ Proverbs 26:24-26

Today is November 1st. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. How are you? Welcome to the 11th month of the year. Here we are! Coming to you from Louisville, KY today where we’ll be bringing Reframe to New Song Christian Fellowship this morning. I'm looking forward to that. But before that, let's center ourselves in the scriptures.

Introduction of a New Book

We finished the book of Lamentations yesterday which brings us to the book of Ezekiel. Having wound our way through prophecies and warnings of Jeremiah and then seeing the prophecies come true and the fall of Jerusalem and the carrying off of the Jewish people into exile to Babylon in the books of Jeremiah and Lamentations, we find ourselves here at the threshold of the book of Ezekiel. Ezekiel is the first of two prophets that come out of the Babylonian exile. Ezekiel prophesied to the Jewish people for the first two decades of their exile in Babylon and, true to form, the prophet prophesies and the people are too busy assimilating themselves into the new culture to listen. But Ezekiel also contains descriptions that are almost cinematic, visions that are in many ways parallel to the visions of John on the island of Patmos when he wrote the book of Revelation. These parallels are often cross-examined in eschatological studies or the studies of the end times. But this doesn’t make it a lofty and unapproachable book. These visions have great impact personally on Ezekiel and if we’re able to allow ourselves to approach the book and the imagery from the perspective of what it speaks to our hearts, rather than trying to force it into a linear, logical, 1-2-3, A-B-C list, we’ll be able to revel in its deep and rich textures and allow it to speak to us like a sunrise would rather than how the morning newspaper does.

The book of Ezekiel holds much promise for us today. It is one of the most relevant books of prophesy we have. Ezekiel may have spoken these words thousands of years ago, but it is as if he is saying them now and we once again have the opportunity to ignore or embrace what God is saying. This book has had profound personal meaning for me, so much so that when Jill and I had our son a couple years ago we named him Ezekiel because there is imagery in here of God's heart and the fact that our actions while in covenant or relationship with him affect him. It is riveting but it is also the book where life is called from the four winds to enter those who were dead so that they might live again. It is amazing.

So we begin a brand new week. We’ll read from the New Life Version this week.

Prayer

Father, as we begin a brand new month, a brand new week, a brand new book, we invite you to speak to us by the power of your Holy Spirit through the book of Ezekiel. We also take to heart the words found in the book of Hebrews that we might trust you so that we can enter into your rest because we know how unrestful it is to not trust you. We know how much we get ourselves into all kinds of predicaments only to turn and trust you as the last resort and then there you are. It becomes this great mystery why you are the last stop as we try to navigate life, that we end up putting our trust fully in you because we have nothing else to trust to and there you are, when we could have done that from the get-go, we could have done that from the starting gate and avoided all of the wasted time, all of the wasted life. We could have avoided all of the anxiety by continually understanding that there is no hope but you. There is no other place to put our trust, so as we reach this beginning of a week, beginning of a month, we put our trust fully in you and you alone. There is no other hope. We put our trust in you before we face anything, knowing that you are there and that you are here and that you are in it all with us. So come Holy Spirit into this month, into this week, we pray. In Jesus’ name, amen.

So this morning we’re here in Kentucky, several hours north of Nashville where we live, but not too far. Man, it has been all over the place, hasn’t it, a couple of weeks ago Charleston, SC on the Atlantic coast and last week all the way in Washington on the Pacific coast and now here kind of in the middle of the south. It has been a joy to see so many of you. I'm looking forward to that today. Thank you for your continued prayers over travel as we’re doing a lot of it these days.

I'm looking forward to this week, looking forward to this month as we move further into the scriptures. It has been such a joy this year. It's easy to just start checking out, but there is so much in these next two months for us. So I'm so very much looking forward to spending it with you. But I'm going to jump into service this morning, so that is it for today. I love you. I'm Brian. I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hi beautiful family. This is Pastor Gene from Bradenton, FL, calling this morning to pray and to share my heart with you guys. I think I have permanently fired my mom. It has taken me 47 long years. I have supported her, helped her, attempted to __________ with her, prayed for her, but she has made a choice to hide behind her “faith” to insult and to be verbally and emotionally abusive and I simple cannot take it anymore. I love her and I forgive her, but I don’t like her and I don’t want to be with her. I have given her so many chances, I have lost count. I'm standing on the Word of God that says warn and advise the person. Warn them twice and after that have nothing to do with them. I have really tried and it has been more than once. I do forgive her, but it takes two to reconcile and I think at this point I'm going to create a no contact with my mom and trust her into God's hands. I have to protect me and I have to protect my family. It makes me very sad to have to get to this point, but I feel at peace. I feel sad, but I feel at peace. So you guys can just support me in prayers. I would really appreciate it. Pray that somehow God will draw my mom to the real truth of __________. I also wanted to testify of an amazing miracle. My husband continues to be convalescing and the doctors are not recommending that he go back to work, at least not secular work at this time, but God is amazing and we’ve had a big, big loan that has been relinquished because of his current disability. It is over $30,000 and we are praising God for his goodness. Guys, I love you and I'm always praying with you.

Hello everyone. Good morning. This is Jay calling from New Jersey. God laid something on my heart to pray for, so pray with me now. Mighty God, we thank you now for being so good __________ this week. Father, we come before you with a problem that we’re having and, Father, we ask that you will lift us up. Father, we’re so angry. We’re so mean. We’re so wrathful. Father, we don’t know why we are so angry and why we are so mean and why we take these issues that we have out on the people that are closest to us, but Mighty God, please forgive us, in the name of Jesus Christ. God, we desire to be delivered from being mean to people. We desire earnestly for you to deliver us from being angry, from being strifeful, from being materialistic, Father, because we know these things don’t matter. God, we pray that you will __________ in setting our hearts on things above and not things that are here. Father, we don’t want our hearts to be on cars and on jewelry and on clothes and on houses and on money. Father, we want it to be on you. Help us. Deliver us, Father, from this lust of the world and of its possessions. God, it feels good to lust after things of the flesh. It feels good to lust after cars and jewelry and money and houses but Father, we know it is not right and we desire, Father, for you to reach down and help us to overcome this, because we know you’ve already done it. Give us the strength now, Jesus. Give it to us now. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Hey DAB family. This is Jocelyn in Atlanta and I just want to invite you to praise God with me. I'm so overwhelmed right now. He is just so amazing and so good. So I called in about a week ago for my son Marlon who is having trouble in school and ADHD is getting in the way and literally as soon as I called in, and my prayer request wasn’t even aired until later in the week on the community prayer request line, we already started seeing an improvement in school and his ability to focus and get his work done. So he had four amazing days last week. Today is Thursday, October 28th and he has continued to do really well in school and I just give all the glory to God. And then the other thing is, I can’t even explain this other than it is a miracle from God, I called in about my grandson Jaden who is 2-1/2 next month and he was given a terminal neurological diagnosis of leukodystrophy. They are now saying that he does not have that condition. There are things that are still wrong. He kind of has more like cerebral palsy type symptoms, but the fact that he does not have a terminal neurological diagnosis anymore is just such a blessing and I'm just so overwhelmed about how God shows up for us when we least expect it. But I didn’t want anymore time to go by without me calling in and praising God for his awesomeness and how he shows up, so healing looks a lot of different ways. Also he is going to have surgery on November 30th. It is a 2-hour surgery for his hips. He is sliding out of place. So if you could continue to lift him and Alicia up.

Good morning, Daily Audio Bible family. This is Nathan, Gift of God, from Illinois. I'm still fighting a cold. I was listening last couple days to the Daily Audio Bible and I try to listen pretty much every day, and I was thinking, boy, we haven’t heard from Becky from originally Norway, New Jersey and then Colorado and now Philadelphia and I listened today and there’s Becky! She's back. I kept feeling that tide of the Holy Spirit wanting to pray for you and then I heard you. That was my answer. Then I thought, but I can’t not pray still, so I would like to pray for you, Becky. We have been missing you and we know that you still are part of this family. Dear Heavenly Father, we just thank you for bringing Becky back to the family, giving her the ability to call us and give us an update. We just pray that she receives your direction, that she has open arms, eyes and ears to what you would have her to do in Philadelphia or wherever it might be that she serves your purpose, that she looks to you for life-sustaining power and wisdom and discernment in the next step, whether it is Philadelphia or the next town. Please give her direction regarding what she should do, regarding a full-time job or what direction you would have her be led down. I also pray that each of us be those open arms, eyes, and ears toward what you would have us do, in who we speak with, in what we say and where we go and what we do, that we bless and honor your name. In your name we pray, amen. Have a great day. Make it a great day.

Hi family. It's Shannon from Texas and I have been praying that God would send me people at my job, that every person that I would encounter would be a divine encounter, considering just everything that my job entails in mediation and social work regarding domestic violence. It is just such a responsibility, but I’ll get to the point. There was a woman that came in today and just like with everyone that comes in, I knew that I needed to speak with her. She came in and she was the mother of a young man that my son was an acquaintance of that committed a crime and got sentenced to 14 years in prison. We just had this amazing divine encounter and I told her, asked her if I could call you guys to pray for him and that I would be praying for him as well to have his sentence reduced. She said he was very remorseful and that she has been saved and taking her daughter to church and that her life has been transformed and that she would really love to see her baby, he is only 18 years old, not have to serve all those years. So if you would please believe with me and her. She doesn’t have a support system. That God would just show up and show out in that situation and that her son, Drea, would just get out early. You know, God can do anything and we don’t know how he is going to do it, but I just want to believe with her and receive that miracle and that blessing. I love you guys. Love you, love you, love you. Bye.
