Daniel 11:2-35 ~ 1 John 3:7-24 ~ Psalm 122:1-9 ~ Proverbs 29:1

Today is December 3rd. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you. Thanks for riding along with me yesterday to Pennsylvania for the quick trip. Had a great time up there talking about Reframe. Yesterday would have been my dad's 73rd birthday, so I just had some moments just driving back to the airport, some moments just to remember and be grateful and thankful for the heritage that he embedded in my life. So that was good, a good time. Glad to be back in the rolling hills of Tennessee here where we are settling in for the Christmas holiday. I'm excited to be here with you today.

We’re reading from the New American Bible Revised Edition this week and we’re reading from the book of Daniel.

Commentary

We move into the letter of James and then we move into the letters of Peter and then we move into the letter of John. James, 1 and 2 Peter, and now we’re in 1 John and we see this theme that begins to emerge and it emerges at such a perfect time in the year because we’ve been through a lot of the rhythm of the scriptures and we’ve been through a lot of the stories of the scriptures. It comes to this point in the year where it is like, okay, you’ve heard this. Do you believe this? Because if you believe this, then you have to live into this and do this. You can’t just listen to this. This is not something to pacify your conscience. This is supposed to transform the way you do everything – your whole outlook on life is supposed to be shifted which then corresponds to the actions that you take and the decisions that you make and the interactions that you have.

We see this in 1 John today: Let us love not in word or in speech but in deed and truth. This theme that is arising is that this is not something that we can just talk a good game. We have to actually live this if we expect this faith journey to actually have value. It has certainly come in, we have to hear it, and yes, go out, we have to talk it, but we also have to have the life that backs it up.

As John says, those who keep his commandments remain in him and he in them. To remain in somebody and them in you, like they are in your heart, you love them, that is intimate and that is close and that is relationship. The idea of remaining, well, that means that the opposite, not remaining is also possible. It is like an every day, ongoing process just like all relationships are an ongoing process. I'm not saying anything you don’t already know, that we don’t already know, that we haven’t already processed through, but it is important that we take the reminder and the theme that emerges in these letters of the early church that it is not enough and it never will be enough to just continue to hear, just to continue to pour into yourself more knowledge about your faith and about what a relationship with God could look like. You actually have to pass through and enter into the relationship, one in which we remain. Remain. Stay. We stay. We don’t leave the relationship. We are not unfaithful to the relationship. We stay. We remain in the relationship. We remain in him and he in us.

Prayer

Father, there is no question about your faithfulness even though we confess we’ve questioned it. We’ve questioned it in thought, word, and deed. We’ve definitely asked you where you’ve gone when it is we who have been the unfaithful ones. We’re getting that. We’re seeing that. We’re understanding that. We understand that we have a role to play in the relationship and that we have to own our part in it. We have to remain in you and that it is not enough just to know about you. We’ve got to know you. This is what we want. It is all we’ve ever wanted. We’ve just gone about it in all kinds of interesting ways when it has been much more simple. Let us not love in word or speech but in deed and truth. We often apply that to each other, to the world we live in. That is just what we’ve got to do. It's got to be outward focused. We’ve got to love not in word or speech but in deed and in truth in our interactions with other human beings, but never really applying that to our relationship with you. We can’t just love you in word or speech. We must love you in deed and in truth. This is how relationships are shaped. So we enter in. So come Holy Spirit. We invite you completely into everything. We pray all of this in your name, Jesus. Amen.

Announcements

Www.DailyAudioBible.com is the website. It’s where you find out what’s going on around here. And it's Christmastime everywhere which means its Christmastime around here as well. There are a number of things that happen at Christmastime in the Daily Audio Bible community. One of them is that we have this annual family Christmas party. We all get together even though it is virtual and just enjoy the Christmas Story and enjoy the voices and holiday greetings from all around the country and all around the world. You are invited to participate. We’re collecting that all together and we’ll release that in a couple weeks. All you’ve got to do is call in your Christmas greeting, your Christmas wishes, something you’d like to say to the whole community. Just use the prayer line – (877) 942-4253. The only real rule about it is that you don’t combine a prayer request and a holiday greeting into the same call. Make them separate. So if you're calling in your Christmas wishes, do that. If you also have a prayer request, do that separately and then that can help us stay straight.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hi. This is Bonnie from Saskatchewan. Say, I just heard the prayers on the DAB Community Prayers and Carlton, the truck driver, my heart was saddened when I heard that you shared that the divorce is going through for you and your wife. I will be praying for you. I know it takes a lot to let go and to grieve as I'm doing the similar process right now here and our being divorced for 3 years. I know it is hard to let go. Just know that the Lord is with you in these difficult times and your DAB friends are supporting you in our prayers and our thoughts. Thanks. We’ll talk to you later. Bye.

Well, good morning my Daily Audio Bible brothers and sisters in Christ. This is Pamela calling from Huntington, NY again. I just wanted to give an update on my brother-in-law, Walby, but before I continue, I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm praying for you. I hear your prayer requests. There are a bevy of us who do not call in as frequently as we should or could, but we are definitely holding up everyone’s prayer requests. We hear your requests loud and clear and we send them up before the Lord and ask him to answer our prayers. But my brother-in-law, Walby, is still in the same condition. I told you he hit his head on the trunk of his hood and walked into the hospital and calling different ones saying that he was okay and he went off to sleep and never woke up again. He's not in a coma. He's not on life support. He just hasn’t awakened. His vitals are pretty good. He had some swelling and blood on the brain which they operated and removed. There are still some smaller complications, so please lift up my brother-in-law. His name is Walby, a wonderful man. He is a Christian and we just want the Lord to just wake him up, that he could live and spread the good news and do the things that he does. Thank you again. God bless everyone. Bye.

Hello my Daily Audio Bible sisters and brothers. This is Dawn from New York and I'm calling on the first Sunday of Advent and I'm just thinking about all of us as we focus upon God this season and think about Emmanuel, God is with us, and we think about hope. I know for many of us we’re lighting that candle of hope today and we’re thinking about hope as the anchor of our souls and he's the God of hope. I know for many people dealing with fresh loss is really tough the holiday season. I'm especially wanting to reach out to those in our community who are praying to God for a child and wishing that the Lord would answer that prayer. And, oh, my heart just goes out to you. It can be very brutal during the holiday season with such a child focus and you’re asking God for a child and you're waiting and waiting. It's so hard. I wish I could just hold all of you close to me and give you a big hug and cry with you. Just know that we’re reaching out to you with our prayers for God to just comfort. I just wanted to acknowledge that and to reach out to our friends who are battling with infertility and asking God for a child, that our love and prayers are with you and we pray for God to renew your hope. I also would like to ask for prayer for those of us who are dealing with fresh loss with perhaps those who have died this year. My own father passed away just a couple of months ago and a very dear friend a few months before that. A really close friend, like a sister, and so this holiday season is a really difficult one for me with lots of changes and loss and part of me wants the whole month to kind of go away, but at the same time I also want to be hopeful and expectant that God will be somehow here…

Hi family. This is Biola from Maryland. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. There is so much to be thankful to God for. I am thankful for every one of you. Wishing China Brianna a happy birthday. I pray in the name of Jesus that you will continue to grow into a young, strong woman of God and that God will continue to direct your path, young lady. I know that you are called for signs and wonders. Brian and Jill, congratulations. Rita, I heard your prayer request. It really broke my heart. Father Lord, I pray your protection over your daughter, O God, and her family members. You heard the heart cry. She just wants to serve you, O God. You know everything about her situation, O God. Lord, Father, I pray first of all that you would calm her heart, O God. Wrap your arms around her and let her know that you truly care and you love her, in the name of Jesus. Right now I come against every evil force that is directed against them, in the name of Jesus. The Word of God says that surely they shall gather, sister, but not by me, and everyone that gathers against you will fall for your sake. I plea the blood of Jesus Christ over you and your family members right now, in the name of Jesus. I command every demon attacking you to bow and fall for your sake, in the name of Jesus. Sister, I just pray the peace of God over you, in Jesus’ name. James from Japan, I'm so happy that your church is growing. Keep up whatever you're doing, brother. __________ and I pray that God will bring more souls to him, in Jesus’ name. Brother from France, we indeed pray. We are praying for you all and I pray in the name of Jesus that this incident, even though not caused by God, will cause a lot of people to come to know Jesus, in the name of Jesus. And I pray for God's protection over you. Asia, sister, welcome back. I was so happy to hear your voice. God bless you. Walta, I'm still trusting God with you as well concerning your husband and your family. God bless you all.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. This is Servant Sam from Massachusetts. I just want to call in a quick prayer request for my pastor's father. His name is Rob R. He is currently going through chemotherapy. He is in his second round. The whole church is praying for him and we are sincerely hoping for a miracle and the healing of God upon his life. He is a great man of God and we look forward to the helping hand of God in this situation. We believe that God can heal him, and so we just ask for prayers for him and his family and the church as we wait upon his condition to hopefully improve through the Lord our God. But we know through and in all things God is good. He is in control and he will never perish, but __________ eternally in Jesus, as we all do. Thank you Daily Audio Bible family. Thank you Brian and Jill for this ministry, as always, and thank you for your prayer requests. Once again, his name is Rob R. and we would like your prayers. Thank you so much.
