Zephaniah 1:1-3:20 ~ Revelation 10:1-11 ~ Psalm 138:1-8 ~ Proverbs 30:11-14

Today is December 19th. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. Here we are, the end of another week and moving directly into Christmas week. So we’re in the thick of it at this point in our year and we’re in the thick of it in the Bible as we race through these minor prophets. It is like we’re encountering a new book, a new voice every day. Today is no different.

Introduction to a New Book

The book of Zephaniah is a book of minor prophesy just like some of the other books we’ve been moving through. It is contained in the Old Testament obviously. It is written in full in three chapters. Although the prophetic word is for the children of Israel, it is also a call to repentance for all the surrounding nations and even the whole world. Zephaniah contains similar themes to some of the other books of prophesy. It announces the impending judgment of God. It is a call to repentance and a declaration of restoration. God always restores. Even though these words were uttered and transcribed in the 7th century BC, we can look at them through the lens of the 21st century AD and find dramatic relevance there. If we change the names and places, things look remarkably now as they did then.

So we launch into the book of Zephaniah. We’ve been reading from The Message this week.

Prayer

Father, as we end another week and there are so few left in this year, we can easily look back and see what you’ve been after in our lives – relationship, intimacy. As we move forward into Christmas week, a week full of festivities and activity, this great celebration of your arrival, your coming for us, all we can do is mimic the words of David so long ago. Thank you. Everything in us says thank you. Angels listen as we sing our thanks. We kneel in worship and again say thank you. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your faithfulness. Most holy is your name. Most holy is your Word. The moment we call you step in. You’ve made our lives large with strength. When the world hears your Word, they will also say thank you. They’ll sing of what you’ve done, how great the glory of God, because you are high above and you see far below. No matter the distance, you know everything about us. When we walk into the thick of trouble, you keep us alive in the angry turmoil. With one hand you defeat the enemy and with the other you save us. Finish what you started in us, God. Your love is eternal. We pray this from your Word and we pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hi family. It's Rumbii. Today is the 13th of December. I just wanted to ask you for your prayers. I know I’ve asked for them several times now. It has just really been a tough year for me health-wise. I have not been feeling well. I’ve had constant daily headaches pretty much for the past 8 or 9 months. I’ve been to the doctor and neurologist and they can’t figure out what is wrong with me. My neurologist thinks it is tension migraine headache. I'm just really stressing out about a lot of things. I feel like my life isn’t moving forward. I would like it to move forward. I’ve had a lot of heartache in my friendships with people, family, work colleagues, and my work, my job has been tough. I feel like I'm not getting the right leadership or mentorship I need and that I'm not working in a favorable place, so I ask for your continued prayers, asking you to help me get guidance and to find favor in my workplace, in my relationships and in my health. And also please pray for my brother who seems to be spiraling worse. He is in a worse position than he has been in the past couple of years. He is not moving forward really with anything and it is really stressing my mom out. Thank you for your prayers. I continue to pray for you. Thank you for always being there to listen and I really appreciate it. Thank you, Brian and family and everyone else who makes this possible. God bless you.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. It's James, the teacher in L.A., and I'm just calling on Sunday morning, the 13th of December. I was listening to the December 11th podcast and the lady who called in from Florida asking for prayers, restoration of her marriage and especially after her miscarriage. I was sitting here with my baby daughter in my lap, she is starting to fuss a little bit, but I can’t imagine not seeing my baby, but I do know that the Lord preserves our children in heaven when we lose them, when they are just too small to make a decision. He knows who belongs to him and he knows your baby and your baby is waiting for you. Don’t let that empty space in your womb, that empty room in your house become a thing that mocks you or makes you feel somehow empty because your baby is not here. Your baby is alive waiting for you in heaven. I pray that even if your love for the Lord isn’t as passionate as it was, that it grows into something deeper. Even if it becomes different, that it would be deeper. I know my love for my wife over the last 5 years, 7 years that we’ve known each other, it is not passionate the way it was when I first fell for her, but it is different. It’s different and that’s okay. My passion for the Lord isn’t the same the way it was when I first encountered him. It's different and it's deeper.

Hello. Blessed Like Me here, just thinking about all the good things that God has done for me. I'm going over the journals that I __________ my heart and I just look back at all of the blessings, all of the greatness, all of the healings, all of the revelations, all of the things that God has done for me. My soul just gets elated so. I just want you to think of all the things that God has done for you. Alex, I'm thinking about you, brother. I'm thinking about you and I'm thankful for you. [Sings] “When I think about the goodness of Jesus and all that he has done for me, my soul cries out hallelujah because I thank God, because I thank God, because I thank God for blessing me.” Now when you're going through a tough and a rough spot in life, you’ve gotta reach deep. You’ve gotta reach deep into the goodness of God. You’ve gotta stop thinking about the negative things. You’ve gotta hold tight to the positive. You’ve gotta hold tight to the things that God has pulled you out of. You’ve gotta be like that billy goat that was down in a hole. You’ve gotta let the dirt come over your head. You’ve gotta pack it down under your feet until you come out. You’ve gotta talk to your mountains and say “thou shall be removed in Jesus’ name!” This is what you must do. In Jesus’ name. I love you. Thank you.

Hi Brian, Jill, the young Hardins and the DAB family. This is Garth from Bromley, Kent UK. I was reflecting on the Sunday, 13th of December podcast from yesterday and Brian, your sermon and Michael W. Smith's song, I played them over and over again as I wrapped some Christmas presents. I reflected on what you said and thank God for sending his Spirit, his Living Word to save us. Then I thought his Living Word is still present through yourself, Jill, your family, those behind the scenes at the DAB team and this DAB family. In this season of thanks to our Heavenly Father, I just wanted to express my thanks to all, that is Brian, Jill, the young Hardins, the DAB team for all that you have done and continue to do for us in your family. I wish you all a blessed and peaceful Christmas. May the Lord continue to make his light shine upon you all. May he continue to show you his favor and give you his peace in the name of his mighty son, Jesus. Amen.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible. Hey, this is Nette from Oklahoma City. Hey, I have to admit and I'm sure this is not going to be a surprise to a few people who have been in touch with me, that I guess I’ve just been kind of worn out and disconnected from our family. You know, I'm sorry about that. I really am but this weekend here, I was sitting here listening to the prayer request line, the community prayer, and I felt a renewing and I am so thankful for that. I guess I was just going through the dry valley, you know? I want you to know that I prayed fervently for every one of you people on this prayer request line. And I always do, but for some reason this weekend here was a bit special. I want you to know I had deep prayer for many of you people. Also, would you guys pray for my dad? He is going to make the trip from Florida to Oklahoma City for Christmas and I am so thrilled, but I am worried about issues, that my mother might start some problems and I hope that doesn’t happen because I love them both and I don’t want that to happen. Alright, I love you guys. Take care. Let's you have a Merry Christmas. Bye-bye.

Good evening my Daily Audio Bible family. It's Mark S. from Sydney, Australia. It's Monday, the 14th and I’ve just listened to the podcast and once again I'm absolutely amazed that God is speaking through the podcast to me. I’ve had a very bad week with so much pressure from my boss to get a project completed. He again rang on Sunday and under so much stress and I’ve been feeling much hatred towards him and not wanting and really hoping that something goes wrong for him. And today's podcast was quite amazing from Jonah that Brian read. It was like God talking directly to me, and Brian elaborating on God's message to me. What right do I have to judge my boss? What right do I have, not knowing his circumstances? So the feeling is real, yet God has put it in my heart now that I must not judge, that I must continue on. And he has put into my heart to pray for my boss. So as Jonah did not want his enemy to be blessed and forgiven by God, I feel now that it is my turn to actually ask God to pray for my boss. So my Daily Audio family, I’ll just say his name is David and I do ask you to please pray for David with me. Dear God, I ask that David, who is an atheist, come to learn and love you. I ask that you will open his heart to your mind and love. My Daily Audio Bible, I’ve run out of time, but please keep me in your prayers. I love you all. I look forward to talking to you again. Thank you. Bye.

Good morning DAB. This is JLS for Jesus in Glendale, AZ. This morning I'm calling for a prayer request for my daughter, Chante, and my son, Jeffrey. Unfortunately, myself and their father separated several years ago and we’ve suffered a broken relationship, but I'm grateful that God is a God of relationships, so I'm calling Chante and Jeffrey back into relationship with their mother and their father. I just ask that the DAB please pray with me for this. Again, I'm JLS for Jesus in Glendale, AZ. My prayer request is for Chante and Jeffrey to have a closer relationship with their mother and their father. And thank you, DAB. In Jesus’ name, amen.
