Zechariah 6:1-7:14 ~ Revelation 15:1-8 ~ Psalm 143:1-12 ~ Proverbs 30:24-28

Today is December 24th, Christmas Eve. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is my pleasure and honor to be here with you today on a beautiful day of celebration, the last day of contemplation that the Savior has come and that we are waiting for his arrival. As we enter the story of Christmas, as we enter the birth of Jesus, we put ourselves in that position with the children of Israel, waiting for the Savior. Then we also understand we’re kind of in that same situation now, waiting for him to return. Christmas shows us not only that he did come, but that he will come for us.

So Happy Christmas Eve to you today. It's great to have this time to be together here, centered around the scriptures around one of the most festive times of the year. We’re reading from the Modern English Version this week.

Prayer

O Father, we thank you for this day, this day when all over the world, certainly, final preparations are being made to give gifts and to enjoy festivities and eat lots of food and it's a wonderful time, the most wonderful time of the year. May we settle ourselves in our spirit and understand why it is a wonderful time of the year. All over the world, when midnight strikes tonight, believers from all sorts of traditions and all sorts of cultures in their own ways will ring the bells of Christmas, will celebrate the arrival of the Savior. And, yes, we have sweet Baby Jesus in a manger and, yes, that is compelling and it pulls at our heartstrings. But you, God, came and entered our story, invading the earth that was under the control of darkness to rescue us, so we can pray along with the psalms, cause us to hear your lovingkindness in the morning, for in you we have our trust. Cause us to know the way we should walk, for we lift up our soul to you. Deliver us, O Lord, from our enemies. We flee to you for protection. Teach us to do your will, for you are our God. May your good spirit lead us onto level ground. Revive us, O Lord, for your namesake, for the sake of your son Jesus, for your righteousness sake. Bring our soul out of trouble. In your mercy cut off our enemies and destroy all them who afflict our soul, for we are your servants. Thank you, Jesus, for coming for us. We long and we wait with great anticipation. Although this may not be the day or the anniversary, it is the day we commemorate this, so with great anticipation, we long for your return while at the same time we marvel at your arrival. Come, Holy Spirit, into this celebration of Christmas, we pray. In Jesus’ name, amen.
