Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

End Times
So recently I got interested in end times and watched some youtube videos on the topic, which discussed what the bible says about end times. I just thought I would open a discussion here, not necessarily whether people think End times is upon us or not, but I'm just interested in Learning more about it.

God bless you, Charlie, that is a very noble aim! A few years ago, I did a very useful distance learning course from London Bible College called The Future Hope which was all about eschatology (that's the posh word for studying the End Times). Unit 1 looked at the background. It was good to follow the development of eschatological and apocalyptic writings from the OT, through the Apocrypha into the NT. Then, they looked at Futurist, Realised and Inaugurated Eschatology (whether God's Kingdom is entirely established already, entirely for the future or 'now and not yet'). Unit 3 was about the Second Coming of Christ. Unit 4 was about the book of Revelation. Unit 5 was about death, resurrection and judgement. One very useful exercise during the course was to read the book of Revelation through in one sitting. That helps to see the big picture, rather than getting too bogged down in the details. No doubt there are on-line courses available these days.

A couple of books that I found useful during the course were 'The Reader Must Understand - Eschatology in Bible and theology' edited by K E Brower and M W Elliott and '3 Crucial Questions about the Last Days' edited by Daniel J Lewis.

My last piece of advice - be careful to approach your study with an open mind. This subject can be an extremely hot potato!

For an intelligent, historical overview of this whole subject,
please read, Robert Jewett, "Jesus Against the Rapture: Seven Unexpected Prophecies,"
(out of print, but available used from Amazon),
a book I quoted often in my preaching.
