Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

Just sharing my study notes on salvation
As Christians
We are destined to live our lives between two days. The day that Christ died on the Cross, and the day that Christ judges all of creation.

The Day of Judgement

Revelation 20:11-13
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.

2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Isaiah 30:18
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

Judgement by Righteousness
Psalm 7:8
let the LORD judge the peoples. Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.

Psalm 72:2
He will judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.

As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;

Righteousness through Christ

Romans 3:21-26
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Romans 10:4
Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Romans 10:10
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Obtaining Righteousness
Galatians 2:16
know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

Romans 3:22
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,

Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

Difficulty of faith

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

Matthew 17:20
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Even though it's a gift, we cannot ask for it.
Romans 6:23
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Deuteronomy 30:11-14
[The Offer of Life or Death]
Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, "Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, "Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

Confession alone doesn't work
Romans 10:10
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?

2 Corinthians 9:13
Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.

Asking Jesus into our hearts doesn't work
The bible mentions "your heart" 103 times, and not one of them talks about letting Jesus in.

Works

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

1 Corinthians 15:2
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

The Sinners Prayer doesn't work
Heavenly Father:
I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of my Sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven and have Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you right now to come in to my life and be my personal Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and will Worship you all the day's of my Life!. Because your word is truth, I confess with my mouth that I am Born Again and Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus Name, Amen.

1 Corinthians 13:2-3

What Must I do to enter Eternal Life?
Matthew 19:16-17 [The Rich Young Man]
Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

Jude 1:21
Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

Your Parents
When your parents tell you to do something, you do it. Why? Well, for one you do it because you know that if you don't you'll get in trouble.

You also obey your parents because you have faith that if you don't you'll be disciplined.
You also obey because you believe without question that what they are saying is possible.
You also obey your parents because you love them.

If you didn't believe that it was possible you would question and not do it.
If you didn't have faith in their disciplined you wouldn't fear the consequences.

If you didn't have love for them, you would ignore them.

Semi Truck

If I told you that this afternoon I was hit by a semi truck doing 120mph on the freeway, you would call me a liar. Because you cannot come in contact with something that contains so much energy and power and not be transformed forever.

You cannot come in contact with the living God and not be changed forever.

You do not have Truth in You
Romans 1:28-32
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

The Test

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

1 John 5:13-15
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

1 John 5:18-20
We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

If it's a cow it has characteristics of a cow. If it is a Christian it has characteristics of a Christian that are undeniable.

The Questions
Walking in Darkness
1 John 1:6
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.Habitual sinners. Sin can be found in a child of God, but a constant habitual sin, cannot.

Walking in the Light
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
A True Christian will walk in the ways that Jesus walked.
Think of a little boy trying to walk in the giant steps of his father. They may be too large for the little boy to reach, the little boy fall, but he wants to walk like his father by any means necessary.

Admit your sin
1 John 1:8,10
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

John 8:44
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Deal with sin
Psalm 32:3-6
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD "—and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If you have been truly reborn, the sin that you once loved, you will now hate. In order to have a new relationship with God you must have a new relationship with sin. You must be sensitive to sin.

Being sensitive to sin is a characteristic of a Christian.

Those that do not keep his commands
1 John 2:4-5
The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him.

Keeps Gods Commands
1 John 2:5
This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

1 John 2:6
This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Hating People
1 John 29:9-11
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him. Walk in love
2 John 1
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
The manifestation of your Godliness is Love. To lay down your life for your brothers in ChristThe primary responsibility of the pastor is to warn your sheep that they are wondering, that they need to head back in the right direction.

To Truly LOVE GOD, you must obey his commandments.
1 John 3:23
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

Do Not Love the World
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

So what does this list mean to you? What are your conclusions?
jonathonbyrd 05/11/2011 23:05
Oh, I'm a programmer, so when I'm debugging a system I start at the top and work my way through the system. This was my study notes as I worked backwords from the day of judgement to my responsibilities today.

I found that we are judged on righteousness. Our righteousness is directly determined by the things that we do through Love and Faith in Christ. There are many many many other things that I have taken from this study as well, but that's the gist of it.
