LONG WALK 2011 Stories

My Long Walk in Colorado Springs.
It was difficult to get away. I needed to wait until someone could watch my two boys. Then I wasn't sure where I wanted to go. I had some vague idea about going into the mountains. It just kept getting later and later, and I knew if I didn't go somewhere, I would end up spending my long walk looking for a spot to walk in. So I said to God, take me where You want me to go. I ended up at Garden of the Gods, which I was avoiding because of the tourists and I didn't want to go to the same place I had been before. I stopped at one of the parking lots, and again asked God to take me where He wanted me to go. Fifteen minutes later I was near the top of a large hill at the far end of the park. It was beautiful and secluded, with shaded places.
It has been very dry here in Colorado, but after an hour or so of spending time with God, He told me to go further up, He had something to show me. It was a view of Pikes Peak shrouded in clouds. Lightning struck the top of the peak, and I knew I had to leave. Sure enough, two minutes after I got into my car, it began to pour down rain.
Much of what has been said to me by God had to do with water. My husband, too. He said that God told him to be like the water in the nearby creek that we were hiking beside when we went to Gunnison last weekend, instead of the stagnant pools on the path that smelled bad. I believe God is getting ready to rain down in our lives-Showers of Blessings, like the old hymn. He's going to break the dam that has held back his Spirit in our lives. I thought of the story of the little Dutch boy who held back the water with his thumb in the dam. I need to take my thumb out of the dam, and let God break it down. We have seen trickles of water from holes in the dam, but He is getting ready to do a mighty work. I don't know exactly what it is, or when it is, but God is working, and the floodgates will be opened soon.

Nice. I like how you asked Him which way to go. That's special.

I know what you mean about getting a later start that you wanted, and also about not necessarily wanting to go where you'd been before. But do you think maybe it was God's reminder that you don't have to wait for the perfect time or place to just spend time with Him? Anyway I love what you shared about the water -- esp. since I know what those mountain creeks are like -- they have a special quality to them that's sort of hard to explain.

Milynne,
That sounds right! I hadn't thought about it that way...What you said goes along with what my pastor talked about yesterday and striving to have a relationship with God...
