Zion = 666

Hi family,
I recently had a debate with one of my friends who claims that when the word Zion is taken back to the Greek then translated in to numbers it equates to 666.
Does anyone have any insight on this as I have tried to find out however have been unable to find anything out.

Sarajane, the numbers given given is a form of gematria. Gematria only works in the Hebrew, not the Greek. Each letter in the Hebrew has a number. Adding the numbers from each letter of a name gives the name a composite number. I don't have the tables in from of me right now since it has been some time since I studied gematria but I'm pretty sure Zion does not equal 666. When I get some time I will dig out the gematria and get the numbers for you.

Sarajane, I just checked the Greek gematria and Zion = 384.

I did try to check out Gematria last night however I wasn't sure how to do it properly so I and emailed the Theomatic team and they said the same. In fact they said that the number of the beast is in fact 616 and not 666.

I have told my friend this and she said that it is Zayn which is the ancient Hebrew and has the numerical value of 666. I have research Zayn and it is Arabic and means beautiful. What about the alternative spellings of Zion Zyon?? or Tzion,Tsion, or sion.
Do any of these amount to 666

OK I found out that Zion is idential to the Hebrew word Sayon, Daivd, Can we see if Sayon has the value of 666 please?

I found a Gematria calculator and ran every spelling of Zion known to man and none equate to 666 or 616 so I have sent her the link and all the results.

An aside, I don't believe the 616 theory. Some of the oldest copies of the New Testament don't write the number AS numbers, they actually write out the number as words, as in "six hundred and sixty six".
I listened to a pretty interesting podcast regarding 666. There is one other place in scripture where 666 is used, and that in the context of the downfall of Solomon, in reference to 666 gold talents. There are three facets (three sixes) leading to the downfall, money (gold), power (horses) and sex (wives/concubines) that are dealt with in some order; worldly things that lead to the downfall of the kingdom of Israel (which soon split after Solomon, IIRC), and the number 666 represents something fleshy or worldly, an unholy trinity of 6's, 6 being the day which beasts were created, 666 being the number of the beast.
Anywho, I just thought I'd share. :-)
