Love is God?

If God is love, then is love, God? Should we be saying "God is loving" or "God is lovely"?

1 John 4:7-21 seems to be saying that God is love. Is God really as close as the person that I love the most? I love my parents, my wife and my two boys. I really really love my two boys. God is love. Love is God? Am I experiencing God when I am experiencing love? Is it really that simple? I think a child could come to know God if it's really that simple.

I was thinking that the things we experience in this world tend to be more like shadows or reflections pointing to the Father, not really Him in person. Maybe we are growing towards love, Strong's G26 - agape from 1 John, as Jesus changes us and our love hints at who He is. I imagine there are libraries written on this question.

I heard a speaker this weekend quote an author and I'll try to get the reference later today if I get time. It really jumped up and grabbed me. It has to do with time and our posture regarding it.

In 1 Cor 13 we see, "13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." The author wrote about these three, I added the scripture examples that came to me:

1. FAITH is patience with God (how long, O Lord?), Habakkuk 1:2
How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?

2. HOPE is patience within yourself. Ezekiel 37:11
Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’

3. LOVE is patience with others. Mic 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. The love here is Strong's H157 - 'ahab - human love for another, includes family, and sexual.

It just amazed me how time changes our view of things. We might be real happy to wait for someone for 15 minutes, but when it turns into an hour what happens inside?
