Minor correction, the "blot out the sun" revelation was actually a demon to Padre Pio, not an apparition of Mary. Mea culpa.

I especially concur with the statement, " there are three prime enemies of sanctity: the world, the flesh, and the devil. We need to take personal responsibility for our actions, and realize with humility that we are weak without God's help, even if the demonic are not involved."
That's all I'm saying.

One more thing... I guess we don't know how angels were created by God in the first place. A third of a one trillion would put the ratio of demons to humans way ahead!

Craig, if you can find it, look for Pastor James MacDonald's teaching series "No More Games: Living And Breathing The Holiness of God;" specifically Pt. 2 of that series entitled "WW III In Me."
This, I believe, will help offer a similar and satisfactory concurrence with what has been posited by Andre's stated Catholic perspective. The teaching MacDonald offers therein will come at your question via a roundabout way, but is useful for consideration of what you seem to be pursuing here.
Just as an aside, I rewatched The Matrix a week ago; recommended viewing for possible relevance to this thread.

Actually, where Andre has stated the position he has expressed as "the Catholic" perspective of belief on this matter, I would respecfully add that it is also simply the true perspective, "truth, which is 'reality, as appropriately represented on the basis of fact.'"

Very interesting post! I agree, the angels and demons don't multiply, but also agree that there are many of them, so this likely doesn't matter! Are they affecting our world? You bet! Is every little thing done by them? Absolutely not! The lust of the flesh - that's me, sure it can be more than that, but I can't "blame everything on the devil." I sure wouldn't want to ignore him either.
I probably haven't made a point up there, but those are some thoughts,

Creation of Lucifer(Satan) and his fall due to pride...

We fight Satan through obedience to God...
"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you". (James 4:7 NASB)
The victory is ultimately ours through the power of the cross...
"When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him". (Colossians 2:15 NASB)
The end of evil...
"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones(evil humans), into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;"

And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
