Infertility and psalms 127 and 128
We recently heard from Psalm 127 and 128:

Children are a heritage from the LORD,
offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.

Blessed are all who fear the LORD,
who walk in obedience to him.
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings and prosperity will be yours.
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
around your table.
4 Yes, this will be the blessing
for the man who fears the LORD.

Does that mean that those who are infertile are therefore not blessed by God? That maybe it is a curse?

"Our view of God also influences everything else—our intentions, actions and opinions—even if only subconsciously." A.W. Tozer

The teachings of Jesus, called the Beatitudes, (See Matt. 5) say something different about who is blessed doesn't it?

I had to stop and consider how I view God on this topic of blessings and curses. I'm sure there is a wide variety of view points on this topic. It will be interesting to see if anyone else takes the bait for a discussion.

Blessings Alice!

I am not as well read as many who visit here but I have always believed God has a plan for each of us. Children are truly a blessing from God. I think that each of us are where we are at this time, at the place we are for a reason. His plan for us can differ greatly from what we think it will be (or want it to be). I pray that children are God's plan for those who truly want them. However, knowing whatever path He has chosen for us will be for His glory and we will be blessed for following it. (In my humble opinion.) God bless.

Alice this is not a comment on those who are infertile. Only on those who raise their children in admonition to the Lord. They are blessed because they fear The Lord and raise their children to spread the faith. There are different blessings to those who do not have children like Paul. Paul even supported those who would not marry and so could give even more time to The Lord's work. Blessed are those who do not have distractions and can spend more time in devoted ministry to the Gospel.

There is also the blind man that the disciples asked Jesus about as to what sin caused it, referring to the blind mans parents and a generational curse. Jesus answered it was not sin that caused the man to be born blind. The man was born blind so that the glory of God may show though him. The blind man was not cursed and neither is one who is born infertile.

From what I understand is that the olive tree has very deep roots. So to refer to children as "olive shoots around the table" is saying that they will be deeply grounded in faith, not that you will have lots of them. The wife as fruitful vine doesn't mean that the children are the fruit, just that she will do good things.

I know that in Jewish culture it was seen that the "barren" were under some sort of curse, but we know now that health issues are not the result of personal sins; Jesus taught us that.

Just keep being faithful to God, as He wants you to. This is a time of testing for you, certainly. He gives you this trial to learn to love Him more than anything else. Just persist in prayer through your suffering, and know that God is good and He loves you, and usually we only realize His plan much after what we are going through, and it is just very hard to see right now.

Have you tried the Creighton Model of Natural Family Planning? It supposedly can help with fertility issues in a natural way and I've heard that its quite effective.
