I am amazed by how long people lived back then and how far away some of them were from God. I can't even imagine sacrificing my son. What a man of faith Abraham was. It makes me realize what little faith I have. I guess I have always stayed away from the old testament ESP Genesis because it seemed boring to me. Oh was I wrong. So much to learn and gain from that book. I was also amazed that Sarah would have her maid servant sleep with her husband to give him a child. Really? Or the time a virgin daughter was offered to the men in return that they would leave his guest alone. (in sodom and gamora. Not sure if I spelled those right). It is amazing to see similarities from that time to the evil today.

Hi Kristi
You probably have more faith than you think! I also could not imagine being asked by God to sacrifice a child of mine. Yes, Abraham did have great faith and was really obedient to God. Last night I was listening to the DAB (now it's 9:30 am here Thursday 12 Jan) and because of Abraham's obedience to God his son Isaac received many blessings. Our kids will benefit from our obedience to God.
I was also in disbelief when the people in Sodom and G. refused Lot's virgin daughters (and that Lot offered them!)for the Angels. The people there were obviously highly immoral.

Regarding Abraham sleeping with Sarah's maid servant, I am not sure but I think at the time it was acceptable for men to have a few wives. As I said I'm not sure. Maybe someone else knows...?

Hello Tom, it's nice to meet you too.

Hi Dezreavy, I remember visiting Jenolan Caves as a child. (Blue Mountains) I was mesmerised. You live in a lovely location. I'm sure you know this!

Yes it is so interesting the old testament. I love the way brian reads it. You are right it really comes to life. Praise be to God.

Ooooooh Monarose,

"I particularly enjoy listening to the Old Testament and often think about how these people walked with, and sometimes without God many centuries ago. That they were real people with human struggles."

I know someone you might like to meet, a DAB sister who you may perhaps have a good resonance with. I will point out your thread to her! She is one who copies our Scripture by hand daily, as she listens to Brian and studies and meditates on what the Spirit brings. Her times spent in the Old Testament things have been deep, heart-shifting things....

And of myself: nice to meetcha, Monarose! Happy-early-Saturday-morning-at-3:49am to you from my late-morning-Friday-the-day-before-11:49am in London, Ontario. I hope you will jump right in, and stick around! :-)

Praying with you,

Tom

Hi Monarose! Tom did indeed point out your thread to me, and like you, it all seems so very real. Like Tom said, I've been copying the readings out by hand, I work at it through out the day so that I can ponder and meditate. I use the new Passages Bible on my Kindle to copy from, but you can get the daily readings in print from the website too. I know not everyone is called or has the time to do this, but I find it slows me down enough to really picture and ponder what is happening. The added benefit is that while I lead a very stressful life these hours just being quiet before the LORD and the meditational movement of the process of copying just seem to still my racing thoughts and let God's thoughts in! Anyway, so glad you are here, and are a fellow lover of all that He has to say, "taking treasures out of the store house, both old and new." Post here any time you get a new thought about what you are hearing, I'll watch for you! Hug! -Kelley

Hi Tom Kelley and Tracy
So nice to meet you.
Tom, nice to meetcha too! I didn't know there was a London in Ontario! I checked it out on Google maps. You are very close to the border with the US. Thankyou so much for your prayers. I also pray for the DAB community. I started listening at the end of last year off and on, but now I listen every night. Thankyou for connecting me with Kelley.
Hi Kelley. By copying the Old Testament slowly you would get a strong image in your mind of what you are reading, and yes I do love what the Lord has to say. Now we are in the book of Exodus, I feel so much for the Hebrews that were delivered. After so many many years of oppression, they cannot cope with their freedom. Wow... to have seen the parting of the red sea... mind blowing, and pharoahs army annihilated... I just love history. I studied ancient history in high school. I remember my teacher talking about the pharoah of the exodus. Well I did a bit of research and more than likely it was a pharoah called Thuthmoses III. I found a website called www.bible.ca and it lists side by side, chronologically, biblical events and pharoahs of ancient Egypt. The exodus took place in 1440 BC, 3452 years ago!!! These people were real!!! God was walking with Moses at this time in history, our God of 2012!!! So amazing!
Tracey you are right, it truly is the best story ever told. Yesterday, Saturday I saw a jewish man with a long beard, and traditional clothing for the Sabbath. I thought about the tribes of Israel and wondered what family he belonged to. I time warped to the exodus!!! God's chosen people led out of Egypt. Abraham's seed alive and well today. God is truly amazing.
I look forward to hearing from you when you can.
Monarose.
