I too have heard many people say, "there's only one God, so the rest doesn't matter.", and such. But according to James, simply believing there's only one God doesn't really change anything. The problem is, I'm sure a lot of people would be offended to hear that. Maybe you could point out something like, yes, there is only one true God, but he wants to be worshiped and recognized in a certain way. Jesus said no one comes to the father except through him. The conversation gets complicated when all religions start claiming there's is the only way, but perhaps you could use scripture to back this up?

Hey Kris,
I won't attempt to answer your question as well as Ana and Ray. For me, the simpler, the better. I believe that what makes us Christian isn't only our belief about who God is. What makes us Christians is our belief in who Jesus is. When Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was, Peter answered, "The Christ" and it is upon that belief that He has built His church. There is only one God, but to me, that's a lesser point. The main point for me, is that THAT God is embodied by Jesus Christ.

It is always challenging to discuss your Christian believe with other religions and one has to always choose your words carefully and sometimes just simple words are more meaningful then big explanations. None of the other "Gods" died for us and was raised from the death and lived on earth. I usually say that I follow Jesus because His life lived on earth was pure and full of compassion.
A book which really helped me a lot is "Why Jesus" from Ravi Zacharias or his other book, Jesus among other Gods.
I pray that our Lord Jesus gives you the right attitude and the right words when confronted.

Thank you Laura and Helga. I find it interesting that after a period of inactivity on this question that you both would find it necessary to comment when you did. I was on a trip this weekend and was spending quite a bit of time with people from the middle east--specifically from Egypt and Jordan. These are very hospitable and friendly people with a lot of faith--Muslim faith. So as I was enjoying their company I felt an overwhelming love for such generous and open people. I was also asking God at that time to direct me with some answers as to this religious question I posed to this forum. I will try to read these books and I thank you all for taking the time to write your comments. Please pray for me--for my faith to be strengthened as I am outnumbered by other faiths at work and pray that I might be a positive influence on these people. Thank you!

I strongly second the book "Why Jesus" by Ravi Zacharias - he writes a very strong defence for Christianity. As for religion vs. non-religion. I would say that "religion" is more the action, while what we have as Christians is "faith". Christianity is the only way to be saved, period. Jesus died for us. All other religions have us trying to earn our way in, and the Bible states that we can't do that, our works are like filthy rags. We need to be covered in the blood of the lamb, Jesus, to receive his imputed righteousness. Imputed = put on, like we're wearing it. The Bible teaches that we should expect false teachers, and there are many. Many of the one-world religion teaching leaves out Christ, and as such, fail to provide salvation. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, and no one comes to the father but by him.
This is important stuff - that's why we're hear in the word of God every day. Good conversation.

I was listening to the Bible while driving last night. In regards to the thought that all gods are alike, consider the story of the Ark of the Covenant and Dagon in I Samuel 5. Before the true God, all others fall. Powerful message in the history of the Israelites.

I would like to say that Jesus puts people in your life and around you as your mission field. Also he tells us to be the light of the world, so basically lead by example, and remember that you don't save anyone. The holy spirit does. The holy spirit calls them to him.
