Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

the book of daniel
I'm confused. In the book of Daniel is the statue Jesus? Is this what is known to the King? Why does God want the king to know what is to come about Jesus if it is about Jesus. I just don't gain much insight out of this book yet.

If God did answer the King through Daniel why didn't he follow God? nevermind that last question didn't make since. I'm not too good with words.

From the (admittedly small amount of) theological study that I have done, the visions of Daniel are generally taken to predict the various empires that arose between his time and Christ. So, the statue in chapter 2 is a symbolic representation of these human kingdoms - the golden head is Babylon, the silver chest is the Medes and Persians, the bronze legs are the Greeks and the feet are the Romans (although there is some debate among scholars about whether the Romans are included). Certainly, verse 44 is about God establishing His Kingdom through Christ. I don't know why God chose to reveal this to the King - perhaps He was already planning the visits of the magi?

Why didn't the King follow God? I suppose partly the usual resistance of the human heart towards God - after all the Israelites saw all His wonders in the desert and still rebelled against Him. Plus the fact, the King had such a vast empire that he was probably too used to regional religions - every people group had their own gods at the time. So, he didn't understand that God is God of the whole world, not just the Israelites.
