Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

My Walk with Jesus
I'm new to DAB this year and am deepening my walk with The Lord. Recently I had a conversation with a friend and was told it was impossible to be saved unless I was in prayer in church and his spirit came into me and I spoke in tongues. I was told unless I did this I could never truly walk with Jesus. Is this true??

No, absolutely not true.

1Co 12:6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
1Co 12:7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
1Co 12:8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.
1Co 12:9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.
1Co 12:10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.
1Co 12:11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

It is quite clear that it is God who gives spiritual gifts and to each of us is given a gift. We are not given all the gifts but a gift of gifts that is suited to each of us as God has determined, as 1Co. 12:9-11 makes abundantly clear.

No church membership required for salvation. Jesus suffered for our sins, and that gift is free to us since He paid the price. Here's the path to your brand new life,"confess with your mouth & believe in your heart that Christ died for you. When we really appreciate His sacrifice, we desire to be more Christ-like & we read His Word to find out what Christ-like is. This is a life changing act, so get ready for a brand new you.

Well this is my year of changes. I knowed it is frowned upon but I am getting a divorce this year and starting to discover myself. My first step is DAB and my second step is to find a church that feels like home to me. I want to get back to me and get back to my relationship with my Heavenly Father. I know it is selfish but I think this is what I am supposed to do.

Melissa,

I consider myself a God Fearing woman. I have been in the church for years and I am also divorced (from a church member) and this was a very hard decision. God does not like divorce, yes, but God does not like seeing a deeply wounded spirit either. I never promote divorce, but I do promote appreciating one's own life. We are still human after all, things happen, life happens. However, I refuse to get a divorce from Jesus Christ, and in my heart I believe he wants me to be happy, because I have concluded and experienced that God has my back, people fail, not him. You are doing great! Your steps are not "selfish." Whoever thinks they can survive without God, well Good Luck to Them, I would not recommend it. People fail us, God is kinder than we think and more understanding than we give him credit. Trust your God.

Thanks Grace.... That's exactly what I needed to hear. I've never lost my faith in God,Just men for the current time. I know he hears and heals so I just need to keep the faith.

Hi Melissa,

I am glad to hear it. A small suggestion, Below is a link to a book I highly recommend. It really helped me know the difference in men, especially those in the faith, we all need a little guidance. I am not ashamed to help myself to be better and learn from my choices. To understand.

I have always said "God is the best boyfriend I have ever had" because when I looked back, He had done more for me than even the best of men I have met. I believe even when I marry an even better man, He will not compare to God. I will still love him dearly but as I said, I understand ppl. can fail, but God he cares for me. So, Best to You! I believe in my God to Bless and Favor You! Key is: Its ok if you don't speak tongues or if you don't become a preacher, I know many who have fallen. Key is talking to God daily, honoring him with your love and learning as much as you can about him, he will guide you from there. No one can tell you how much You love God except yourself. And something My Rev. said, which I never forgot is "What if a sinner genuinely repents before they die" maybe even a Jew says I"m sorry to God". However, what do you think God will do? And what if you thinking you know it all about God instead get in trouble for discouraging, misinforming and judging another person which blocked them from Jesus" Deep. So with that said seriously "You are doing great and tell yourself "I am blessed and highly favored" We thank God for that. Never let anyone block you from connecting with our God, just do you and do your best. Hope you enjoy the book below.
