Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

Wow
There is so much in the Bible. I have been reading through the letter of Romans. It was challenging and fun. So much to learn. I have asked trusted adult friends how to live out
what I learn from in Romans chapter 12 on. I was reminded that it is the Heavenly Father who works in me to become more and more like Christ. This was freeing to me that I can present my concerns to him and trust the help of the Holy Spirit for lasting change.

However, I am so new at this concept. I grew up thinking that it was wrong to ask God to change my character or to tell him what to do. I am sure many can relate to this.

I'm involved with a small Bible study group that happens to be on Romans Chapter 12 too! I was curious though... How did you grow up thinking that it was wrong to ask God to change you or make requests? Do you think it was taught to you in a particular Bible teaching? Or is this just a misunderstanding from youth?

You are on the path now Bessie! Do your very best never to forget what you learned from Ch. 12 of Romans.

Craig,

This was from before I new the Lord. I prayed for God to change me because I did not like myself. I did not know what true prayer was. I love the wisdom that comes from Romans Chapter 12. I was worried in how to apply these verses and sought the advice of older Christian friends. I guess I must of gotten a little impatient with myself or seeing true change so soon. It is difficult because this is my first real in-depth study of one of the books of the Bible. It is easy to feel overwhelmed.

God Bless, Bessie!

It sounds like you've got the right balance. It's like my pastor said to me once - Jesus loves us, just the way we are. However, He loves us too much to leave us the way we are. So, He absolutely loves you! And He is at work transforming you to be like Him! Praise Him!
