I agree with Sarajane! So many times our theories are shattered by the reality of experience. I've missed you Debbie, but your absence has made these latest thread contributions very powerful! Yes.. .testimony please!

tried to post before hopefully it'll work this time. I just wanted to say thanks to sarajane and mod deb for your responses they encouraged me. sarajane I am in the uk and I thought it was funny you should suggest psalm 27 as this was one of the first pieces of scripture that really talked to me when I first came to know Jesus and still holds a special place and mod deb you sound like you've been through a lot and I think you're really brave to have gone through what you have and still be standing strong on the other side. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for the encouragement

And just to add to what Deb says you need to remember the enemy is a liar, who comes to steal and destroy. It is totally a false image (seen in hollywood and other things) that he is Gods opposite equal. That too is a lie, he wanted to be worshiped like God but he is defeated, and he is a liar, he wants to convince us that he is powerful but his power pales in comparison to our God who has the victory. And as Jesus says he fell from heaven, and Jesus and his church has come to knock down the gates of Hell and snatch from him all those he has taken in with his lies and tricks.

This is one passage we should remember in this discussion!

Luke 10:17- 20

17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”

18 “Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! 19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. 20 But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”

Finally I like this passage because in the discussion Jesus makes it plain that someone far stronger than Satan has arrived -- namely He who brings the Kingdom of God and thus has bound up Satan and plundered all that he has stolen:

Matthew 12 :22-30

22 Then a demon-possessed man, who was blind and couldn’t speak, was brought to Jesus. He healed the man so that he could both speak and see. 23 The crowd was amazed and asked, “Could it be that Jesus is the Son of David, the Messiah?”
24 But when the Pharisees heard about the miracle, they said, “No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan,[d] the prince of demons.”

25 Jesus knew their thoughts and replied, “Any kingdom divided by civil war is doomed. A town or family splintered by feuding will fall apart. 26 And if Satan is casting out Satan, he is divided and fighting against himself. His own kingdom will not survive. 27 And if I am empowered by Satan, what about your own exorcists? They cast out demons, too, so they will condemn you for what you have said. 28 But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you. 29 For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man like Satan and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.

30 “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.

It is also repeated in Mark 3

20 One time Jesus entered a house, and the crowds began to gather again. Soon he and his disciples couldn’t even find time to eat. 21 When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they said.
22 But the teachers of religious law who had arrived from Jerusalem said, “He’s possessed by Satan,[e] the prince of demons. That’s where he gets the power to cast out demons.”

23 Jesus called them over and responded with an illustration. “How can Satan cast out Satan?” he asked. 24 “A kingdom divided by civil war will collapse. 25 Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart. 26 And if Satan is divided and fights against himself, how can he stand? He would never survive. 27 Let me illustrate this further. Who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man like Satan and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.

28 “I tell you the truth, all sin and blasphemy can be forgiven, 29 but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences.” 30 He told them this because they were saying, “He’s possessed by an evil spirit.”

Russ,

Thank you. When I started this post I was immediately sorry because I felt I had left the topic wide open for the opposite of what I wanted to hear about from others. I wanted to bring to light the very power of His name over all that is not of Him. Your post nailed it.

Thank you and Glory to God!

Deb thank you for sharing. This helps so much to read your story. It makes so many things clear to me of how important it is to keep on praying for others. I know it is not easy to share those things and I am glad that God gives you the strength to do so. You know we sometimes read things but never see the power of Jesus until someone has the courage to help us understand how Satan works.
