Bible Questions and Spiritual Discussion

The gay 'issue'!
So what do people here at DAB think of the gay 'issue'?

1: People can do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt anyone?
Or...
2: It doesn't matter as long as the person is faithful to their partner and God?
Or...
3: Hate the sin and love the sinner?
Or even...
4: Hate the sin and hate the sinner?

I would tend towards option 3. I believe the Bible is clear that homosexual acts are wrong. However, since we are all sinners, I believe we should show respect and Christ's love to those who practice homosexuality. We should guard against looking down on them yet turning a blind eye to 'socially acceptable' sins such as pride and judgementalism.

The problem is that wider society doesn't understand the difference. Wider society thinks that because Christians are expected to demonstrate the grace of God, we should allow people to do what they want and accuses us of bigotry if we try to teach the Bible. Here in the UK we have problems with the PC brigade and militant homosexuality. There was a Christian couple who were banned from being foster carers because they refused to teach children that homosexual relationships are as valid as heterosexual ones. Catholic adoption agencies have had to close over this issue. At work (I work for a mental health NHS Trust) we have been made to include homosexual issues in the mandatory equality and diversity training. We need to pray hard over our response to this issue.

I think that we Christians must be careful of judging others. The way you judge, you will be judged. God is our vindicator and he fights the battle for us. That's why option 3 is the way I would go. I have a gay neighbor and non-christian neighbors. They do not want to hear my sermons and I have to demonstrate Jesus instead of teaching them Jesus. All of us are in different surroundings and situations and I think each one of us has to go to our "Father" and ask him all day long: Help me on my way so that I draw people to Christ instead of pushing them further away.

I would tend to look at it the same was as any other sin struggle. How is a struggle with this sin different than the others? Option 3

I agree with Helga and John. Sin is sin and we are all sinners. Do we not show grace to each other as Jesus taught even though we are all sinners. It is no different with homosexuality. Option 3.

Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: (Mark 3:28-29KJV)

I think that we should all be so busy trying to understand; What is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost that we should have no time to consider the transgressions of others.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. (Matthew 7:3-5KJV)
