Tell Us About Yourself and What the DAB Means To You

I'm new here; just jumping in to say hi

Greetings, DAB folks! I've been listening sporadically for about a year now, but realizing I need to connect with believers, I joined once I found out that DAB offered a community forum. I left my home church of 30 years, having grown bitter and disillusioned. Not the best place to be, but it's what happened. For a while since then, I wanted nothing to do with church or the Lord. But after having 'discovered' (a.k.a. been led to) DAB, it became clear that the Lord still wanted something to do with me. Many times, often profoundly, He would speak to me through whatever the daily reading was in the Scritures or through Brian's commentary and through the prayer requests phoned in. So you guys are my jumping off place, as Brian likes to say, into community. I hope to reconnect with believers and begin to let the Lord heal and restore what the canker worm has eaten.
I'm 53 years old and a paralegal by profession. I work in a maximum security women's prison, running the law and reading libraries and doing an assortment of other tasks, such as giving tours to at-risk youth.
Looking forward to communicating, and sharing good things.

Welcome back to the fold! We are rejoicing with the Lord that you have been led to this community of ours. Looking forward to what the Lord has in store for you. There truly is no limit to his love and he is oh so faithful when we are not.
My name is Tammy (Tamarie on the forums) and I've been a part of this community for many years (I've lost count), but it is the thread that runs through deep and wide in my life and holds all the chaos together. I live in Arizona with my husband and our youngest, our daughter Taylor, who is a sophomore in college. Our sons are out on their own, one is newly married and the other is also a college student, finishing up his AA degree currently.
I just wanted to extend a warm welcome to you and let you know the Lord has led you someplace very special. May you be blessed richly as you come to meet and know more of the community over the ensuing days, months, and year.

Welcome Susan.
This has been an enriching community for me, and I hope it will be for you. I'm a little older than you, but I can relate. I had a bad experience with my church when I was seventeen, and had a hard time getting confident with a church family again. But God kept calling me back, and I am happy and supported in my home church, and also in this community.
God is good. Good stays with me in spite of me.

It's good to meet you, Susan. I like hearing where you've come from and where you are at now in regards to the institutional church. I don't have nearly as traumatic story regarding the church, but I was and still am disillusioned.
May I suggest a podcast to your listening collection from Wayne Jacobsen called "The God Journey". It's not anti-church but many of the discussion revolve around people who have experienced God outside the institutional church.

Welcome Susan,
I feel you as many do. I myself raised up in church since youth. Loved it immensely... some of my best memorires were in the church. Have not been a member of any church since youth. Decided for the time being, just me and the book. I have learned so much this way makes me think that "church", may have been hindering my learning. Perhaps, one day I will return to the social aspect of the church but for me, it takes time away from truly communing with God and his lessons on life. That is just me, again welcome.
